Dashboards facilitate prompt alerts but discovery feature needs enhancement
I would recommend Broadcom DX Application Performance Management if a customer doesn't have any existing performance solution. However, ten years ago, the solution was better, and now there are many competitive options. My overall rating would be between six and seven. The product rating I would give is 6.5 out of 10.

Good monitoring functionality, but technical support and integration with other products need to be improved
My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances. For CA Spectrum, the integration of this product is something that needs to be improved. Even some of their point products to not integrate very well, and ADA is one of them. The user interface needs to be improved. Technical support needs to be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Scalability is, I think, one of the strongest points of CA APM."
"Product performance is awesome; it's covering all aspects of the application with good database metrics and internal application metrics, providing tons and tons of data."
"As all of our applications are monitored by CA APM, it's now easy to analyze unusual behavior in a normalized way."
"With the adoption of CA APM, we have accurate mapping, we're updated on what supports each business service and what, when, where an incident occurs and how it affects the business."
"The alerting part – if the system goes down we get an immediate notification that a resource has gone down, so it reduces the impact on the business."
"It gives us insight into the functional health of the application, if we have any hot spots."
"I like APM because it is a complete solution that helps the production environment to identify the root cause of problems before affecting the application or services."
"I think that the most important feature is the freedom to construct the workloads for the database size we need according to number of users, data, and other criteria."
"Once it is setup and seeing traffic, it is an impressive tool to show potential problems long before the general users are complaining."
"Technical support is excellent."
"The most valuable feature is the fault management monitoring."
"The pricing is relatively low compared to other solutions in this area, and I'd go so far as to say it's even significantly less than the competition."

Cons

"As applications move to the cloud, we need more cloud-based solutions from CA APM. This is currently unavailable."
"I'd like some simpler dashboards; some easier reporting."
"Issue resolution needs to be faster, rather than having users wait for the next release for issues to be fixed."
"I have a hard time upgrading CA APM. When I upgrade from one version to another, everything must be done manually."
"The support could be better. It is difficult to access the right person, and incidents sometimes need escalation."
"Deployment for large scale systems is an issue with a lot of add-ons or additional products required, for example add-ons for Oracle, Siebel, and Peoplesoft."
"The reports are a key part of APM in my vision because it is through them that we manage to generate the evidence to direct the development team and operational support to address. However, we can not extract the information of the tool through reports. We have needed several times to use screen print screen, CTRL + C and CTRL + V."
"Initial setup is easy, but after that it needs a very complex tuning that is easier in other tools."
"Hard to setup right, hard to get the conversations right."
"My biggest complaint about ADA is that you have to rely on dedicated appliances."
"Upgrades can be quite complex."
"The user interface needs improvement."
"It is not the best product on the market, but it is better than the competition if you were comparing prices."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"On pricing, CA is very competitive. I think that's going to help in the long run."
"Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
"All discounts are case by case to accommodate the client's budgets."
"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"This is an expensive solution and there is a single price to pay for licensing, with no options."
