A reliable backup product which needs little management
For most technical users the setup and initial deployment are fairly straightforward and once deployed it 99% of the time looks after itself. Installation of the agents is similar to most other products in that it has an install wizard to guide you, the accompanying documentation is also very useful to assist wherever you are in the agent install and policy setup process. Normally our customers' IT team does the deployment of agents, however, this isn't a daunting task unless you are dealing with multiple servers to protect the product. On a server-by-server basis, the deployment doesn't take long. From the MSP side of things, the infrastructure sitting behind the scenes doesn't take too much to install, configure and maintain.

High-speed backup and strong deduplication have supported secure long-term data protection
In my opinion, what can be improved about Veritas NetBackup Appliance includes licensing. A mixed licensing model would be more helpful, such as terabytes plus virtual machines, terabytes plus instances, or number of instances. I believe this could work and create a new competitive licensing model against other products. Additionally, embedding Enterprise Vault or some of its features in the backup software would enable better competition with Commvault, which offers backup and archiving from the same console. For the next release of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, I would like to see improvements in licensing, increased deduplication ratio, and enhanced high availability. Having high availability for Veritas NetBackup Appliance without requiring virtual storage like Cohesity would be important. Improving the overall high availability of Veritas NetBackup Appliance would be beneficial.

Pros

"The solution is a free engine to help work with the container."
"There are a lot of new features that operate to protect the data from ransomware attacks. They launched the Veritas/Appliances to protect our data. Veritas has been doing its job well."
"The Veritas NetBackup Appliance is convenient because it’s a portable device and doesn’t require a lot of additional hardware or licenses like VPN solutions."
"The biggest advantage is that I do not need to manage backups on traditional tapes, which helps maintain total business continuity."
"Even though we have top cloud solutions, if the infrastructure is on-premise and it's a large enough infrastructure, and if you have a good team to manage, the best, the most dependable solution would be NetBackup."
"The product is quite stable and reliable; there are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze, and its performance is good."
"The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance are the ease of use and the familiar interface."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance fairly covers our enterprise requirements and supports all our databases and operating systems."
"The solution is very scalable."

Cons

"In the next release I would like to see an improvement in the auto failover option."
"The support for object storage isn't quite there yet; its public cloud support can be improved."
"The support for object storage isn't quite there yet. Its public cloud support can be improved. I would love to see the public cloud support for object storage, and it would be great, but what I always hear from the folks at Carbonite is that in a lot of cases, it directly competes with their cloud offering. So, I don't know when or where that will go or if that will go anywhere, but we are hopeful to see something. The dashboard is a little outdated. If they gave it a facelift and put some better design around their dashboard, that would be tremendous. I generally care less about the visual aesthetics of an application as long as it does what it needed to do, which is true in the case of this solution. We also have the Microsoft 365 platform. Because they're two separate platforms, I have to log in to my Microsoft platform to manage it, and I have to log into my Carbonite server backup platform to manage it. Having these two coexist together in one management console is really what we're looking for, but we went for it knowing this. We also knew that there would be some integration coming down the road. So, we're again hoping to see some of that coming in 2021."
"When you have to restore it, Carbonite takes a lot of time."
"The stability has room for improvement."
"I would like to see an improvement on the management user interface, as well as Kellion integrations."
"It could be a little bit easier or faster to be able to access data files without having to download anything."
"The Hyper-V backup has room for improvement."
"The challenge arose due to a space issue. The issue was related to disk breaks, especially when power cuts occurred. One of the disks would break, leading to a loss of functionality."
"I don't like the interface of Veritas. It could be improved."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."
"This solution is very expensive, which is a problem for many companies."
"The only room for improvement is that the cost per terabyte is extremely high."
"More licensing options could be introduced to the software. It is currently based on capacity only. Compared to competitors, it is difficult to position it economically everywhere. From the usability point of view, they are making many improvements on new interfaces, the SaaS offering, etc."
"One area needing improvement is to facilitate Oracle database restores using the GUI on the NetBackup Appliance."
"Most of the organizations I see are going to the cloud and they escape the physical architecture to minimize investment in their local data center as much as possible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is between $120 and $150 per year."
"Its price is reasonable."
"The solution is open source."
"We pay 9,000 dollars per year for our license."
"This solution is expensive."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"The pricing for the solution's software maintenance and licensing is high."
"There is a license required for this solution."
"The solution is not cheap"
"The product's price is high."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"Renewing subscriptions for appliance support is costly."
