A reliable backup product which needs little management
For most technical users the setup and initial deployment are fairly straightforward and once deployed it 99% of the time looks after itself. Installation of the agents is similar to most other products in that it has an install wizard to guide you, the accompanying documentation is also very useful to assist wherever you are in the agent install and policy setup process. Normally our customers' IT team does the deployment of agents, however, this isn't a daunting task unless you are dealing with multiple servers to protect the product. On a server-by-server basis, the deployment doesn't take long. From the MSP side of things, the infrastructure sitting behind the scenes doesn't take too much to install, configure and maintain.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy verification of things is the most valuable feature."
"The advice that I have for people looking into using Carbonite Server is that it seems reliable and easy to use."
"The efficiency and convenience are excellent."
"The solution is very stable."
"Technical support handled all our issues quickly and effectively."
"It seems reliable and easy to use."
"I find the BMR/image and the recovery pieces are valuable."
"The Granular Restore of SQL feature has been a lifesaver more times than I can count. One of the main reasons for looking at Carbonite was their support for platforms like AIX and AS/400 Series."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward."
"I am a specialist in Veeam, and my clients optimized their recovery procedure, and it now requires less time to restore services."
"As a manager, I find Veeam One's reporting service to be very helpful."
"Customer Service: Good. Technical Support: Good."
"The features that I have found most valuable are its back up and recovery, as it is a simplified backup because you can do both databases - VM and HyperV, and it is a faster backup than the conventional methods because it takes up the bare metal."
"It's the best; it has simplified administration, simple installation, and a simple interface."
"This product helps because when something has changed that we didn't know about or didn't want to be modified, and we find out about it the following day, we can go back to exactly where we were and when it worked perfectly."
"Very reliable and fast data recovery."

Cons

"They do not yet have USB recovery but they are adding it in coming releases."
"The Hyper-V backup has room for improvement."
"The stability has room for improvement."
"I would like to see an improvement on the management user interface, as well as Kellion integrations."
"The support for object storage isn't quite there yet. Its public cloud support can be improved. I would love to see the public cloud support for object storage, and it would be great, but what I always hear from the folks at Carbonite is that in a lot of cases, it directly competes with their cloud offering. So, I don't know when or where that will go or if that will go anywhere, but we are hopeful to see something. The dashboard is a little outdated. If they gave it a facelift and put some better design around their dashboard, that would be tremendous. I generally care less about the visual aesthetics of an application as long as it does what it needed to do, which is true in the case of this solution. We also have the Microsoft 365 platform. Because they're two separate platforms, I have to log in to my Microsoft platform to manage it, and I have to log into my Carbonite server backup platform to manage it. Having these two coexist together in one management console is really what we're looking for, but we went for it knowing this. We also knew that there would be some integration coming down the road. So, we're again hoping to see some of that coming in 2021."
"In the next release I would like to see an improvement in the auto failover option."
"The support for object storage isn't quite there yet; its public cloud support can be improved."
"When you have to restore it, Carbonite takes a lot of time."
"Margins should not be distinct; instead, they should seamlessly integrate with the Veeam Backup and Replication tools, requiring minimal separation."
"I don't see much room for improvement except that the price could be better."
"Its native capability for talking to the public cloud needs improvement. Connecting to a public cloud is a little bit more of a challenge when it comes to Veeam than it is with Rubrik or Commvault. There are still some hoops that you got to jump through in order to send Veeam backups out to public cloud repositories. It is not as simple as it is with other products."
"The licensing models, from a reseller's perspective, could be better."
"I would rate the technical support from Veeam 6 out of 10 because I have faced difficulties due to response time and quality of support."
"The solution requires a lot of bandwidth because our servers are heavy."
"The only improvement I could think of is it could be cheaper—cheaper is always good. Sometimes the product is just finished. Cheaper is always nice for the customer, but the company needs to benefit so that they can keep maintaining the product. New Windows versions, etc., always take some work. At the moment, I wouldn't switch to another solution because of the money."
"I would like to see improvements in the GUI and in navigation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is between $120 and $150 per year."
"We pay 9,000 dollars per year for our license."
"Its price is reasonable."
"The solution is open source."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication is reasonable."
"I would rate the pricing six out of ten when compared to other competitors."
"Its pricing is really good."
"The cost is expensive. It will depend on how you are managing your environment, your requirements, and if you can easily manage a license. It's not that difficult, so you can manage it, but the cost is high, so you need to check directly with Veeam as well as the local partner so you can get the discount prices."
"Pricing is not the cheapest, but you get a lot of value for your money."
"Veeam Data Platform's pricing is affordable."
"The price is a bit high. Licensing type is VMware friendly, so it is easy."
"We pay on an annual basis. We pay roughly $12,000 for our software subscription."
