Cloud service has streamlined daily monitoring and reporting but still needs smoother setup
When it comes to scalability, we never got to the point where we could scale it, or at least while I was there. Scalability is a tricky word. You design for it, but to actually do it because you have a real need tends to take more time to come into fruition. I wasn't there when that scalability test was done. In terms of using the real-time performance analytics feature of CDW Managed Cloud Services, I think it was something a little different when I was working with it. Maybe it was termed differently. We had a real-time interaction performance report that we dealt with every day. Our goal was to have the tool create information and send it to us instead of us having to look for it. We used a real-time monitoring service functionality to generate a daily report, which my SMEs would then review and take actions in accordance as necessary. When assessing CDW's security management in maintaining data integrity and compliance, you meet the encrypt state compliance requirements and the ISO 9000, which we had requirements for, including the ISNet requirements with the 128-bit encryption states and 512s on the backend for hardware. We didn't have anything else beyond that, which is pretty standard these days. We had no data penetrations during the time I was there.

Reliable mobile platform has delivered accurate retirement data and reduces incident rates
The best feature Kubernetes Everywhere offers is the reliability feature, which mostly impresses me. What makes the reliability stand out for me is uptime and error handling; also, as I mentioned previously, it's providing reliable data, which is very important for us in TIAA because it is the retirement data that we serve, and we do not want to provide anything incorrect to our participants. As this is a 100-year-old company, we want to make sure our participants are given the accurate information, reliable information that they deserve. Kubernetes Everywhere has impacted my organization positively by being reliable as well as providing accurate data, maintaining the uptime, which is very important, and making sure we deliver the accurate data that is required by our participants. I have seen specific outcomes, with incidents having definitely reduced drastically from what it was a few years back; so certainly, I can see there is more than 25 to 50% reduction in the incidents since adopting Kubernetes Everywhere.

"CDW's service enables us to deploy infrastructure services at our own pace without being limited by the availability of resources. It helps us leverage skills that take a long time to acquire, skills that we don't have in-house. Making use of CDW's skills in those areas saves us a lot of time."
"CDW Managed Cloud Services acts as a security guard and doctor for my cloud."

"Our expectations have been met in terms of services delivered on time, on budget, and on spec."
"In regards to the cost of CDW Cloud Managed Services, when I consider the costs of engineering resources that can work in multi-cloud environments, the cost of downtime, and the cost of the time to reconcile complex bills from cloud providers, the benefit is immeasurable."
"Kubernetes Everywhere is a very good tool with most of the features taken from Kubernetes open-source, and it works really well, is highly scalable with very low latency."
"Kubernetes Everywhere positively impacts our organization by making it quite easy to deploy different microservices for different languages; we simply build the Docker container and pass it to the YAML, and if anything breaks, debugging is straightforward because we know exactly where the issue is coming from."
"Kubernetes Everywhere has impacted my organization positively because performance-wise, we don't have any downtimes, whereas earlier we used to have downtime."
"Kubernetes Everywhere has positively impacted my organization by significantly reducing downtime; we have achieved almost zero minutes of downtime since implementing Kubernetes Everywhere in our organization after transitioning from manual deployments."

"Kubernetes Everywhere has positively impacted my organization with cost savings, where we have a good amount of savings around sixty thousand to seventy thousand USD per year."

Cons

"The ticket system is a little clunky for Managed Cloud Services. There is no ticket category for Managed Cloud Services, per se."
"They can maybe improve the scheduling. There have been times where I wanted to schedule something, and there was a conflict on their side as to who can do it and when and why, but other than that, they have been pretty stellar."
"CDW Managed Cloud Services needs to work on the costing for the license part, making it more affordable would be beneficial."
"CDW Managed Cloud Services could provide more detailed documentation for their services, expert support, and all of the benefits they provide."
"I would like to see them improve when it comes to helping develop an interface to this environment that's more user-friendly. We're introducing people to the use of a type of cloud scenario that they're not familiar with. We have to train them on and teach them how it's implemented. Having a little bit better interface would be helpful."
"What I dislike about CDW Managed Cloud Services is that sub-configurations are somewhat of a headache."
"When you initially engage with them, there is the idea that you will have certain check-ins on a quarterly or monthly basis. That didn't really occur until we started to reach out to engage with them. As soon as we started to touch base, it was great. We identified that there were some other initiatives we wanted to get in place. However, it was really on us to get the ball rolling on that. It would have been helpful if we had a CDW resource reaching out, saying, "Hey, what do you want to do next? How is this working for you? How is this not?" That initial engagement would have certainly helped on the professional services side."
"The ticket system is a little clunky for Managed Cloud Services. There is no ticket category for Managed Cloud Services, per se. It's a little awkward when trying to find a way to put a ticket in. It's just not streamlined enough and doesn't take you step-by-step. And it doesn't seem to have all the categories I need. If I'm putting in a ticket for AWS or AppStream, there is no category for them."
"At this time, I may not have any improvement suggestions; I want to explore more, so the features currently provided satisfy me, but if there is anything Kubernetes Everywhere can share with modernization, that would be great."
"Due to poor planning of the application developers and resource management, I have seen crashes, downtimes, and performance issues."
"Customer support for Kubernetes Everywhere could be better."
"Deploying Kubernetes Everywhere infrastructure is somewhat difficult because there are many components that need to be deployed."
"Regarding pricing, setup cost, and licensing, running a Kubernetes cluster can be costly depending on the use case; however, running on GCP GKE is cheaper compared to AWS, making it relatively economical in our case."
"It only loses a small amount of points because fine-tuning network policies across very strict, air-gapped, on-premise boundaries takes extra upfront coordination during the initial discovery week."
"The ingress issue is the main concern for me because I continue to face ingress-related issues most of the time."
"Kubernetes Everywhere can be improved by providing an easier way for users to handle commands and developing a UI-based approach to make it easier for developers and semi-technical users, as well as focusing on improving containerization."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have used CDW’s free Recommendation Engine. That is what we use for the cost savings. It helped us find places to reduce our cloud costs."
"A lot of people see the cost, and they are like, "Well, that is a lot if we already have an internal IT person." It's like, "Well, you're not just getting that." You are getting access to resources and peace of mind, to say, "I don't have to worry about this server dying at 2:00 in the morning because these guys will handle it." I will wake up, and if there would have been a problem, it would have been addressed. It would have been notated and fixed."
"The cost is very competitive and appropriate for what we get."
"CDW Managed Cloud Services will not be cheaper than what you are doing on-premises. It will be more expensive."
"The biggest factor for us was cost, and at the time, CDW Managed Cloud Services was most efficient for what we needed."
"It is a little more complex than I would like, but I think that's more AWS than CDW. CDW actually saves us money in regards to the way they handle things. We get support without a six-figure commitment from the AWS side, and that's appreciated."
