Effective project management and organization streamline task allocation
I feel that Codebeamer's workflow engine is working fine for me as of now, but there are better tools than Codebeamer available. Codebeamer is an old tool, and newer tools such as Jira offer a more appealing user interface. Codebeamer's UI is somewhat boring, while Jira's is more exciting and user-friendly. Other than the user interface, I would to see improvements in Codebeamer as it appears boring. The UI has been the same for a long time, and they haven't changed anything in that regard. It should be more colorful and interactive, and easier to navigate. When I initially used Jira before coming to this company, transitioning to Codebeamer felt challenging for someone unfamiliar with it. Compared to Jira, Codebeamer can be difficult for a layperson to understand.

Has provided mature traceability and configuration features while supporting complex product development for mid-to-large companies
Polarion ALM can learn from Atlassian tools a lot, as the usability is not the best, and it is really narrowly focused on requirements management only. For example, if you want to do testing and test result management with it, it is very limited. Jama Connect has similar limitations, and both should really focus on developing the integrations and extendability. For example, Jama Connect does not even have an extension marketplace, whereas Polarion has a small one. However, compared to the Atlassian Marketplace where you can get whatever applications for whatever price, it is a totally different ballgame. I would highly recommend Polarion ALM add more AI features to it. I know they have started to do something, but for example, I have been developing widgets for IBM DOORS Next, AI widgets, so that you can write and analyze requirements with the AI, and I have also done the same for Jira, creating a couple of Jira applications in the marketplace as well.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Codebeamer is user-friendly"
"The traceability is so simple that I don't need to do any additional configurations related to traceability."
"The solution easily replaces IBM DOORS, which no longer offers maintenance in China."
"You can track the metrics in the Agile dashboard very easily."
"Other benefits observed from using Codebeamer include its excellent release management and access management features."
"Codebeamer's API-based integration and many other integration aspects with other solutions are very powerful."
"The biggest advantage of Codebeamer is its ability to directly use built-in project management modules without the need for extensive customization."
"The most valuable aspect is the integration with third-party tools, as we don't have to use different tools to start from the stakeholder requirements down to subsystems."
"It's extremely flexible. Configuring items is straightforward and doesn't require involving the supplier each time. We find the requirement management, test management, documentation, and dashboards very effective."
"Polarion ALM's integration is very good and easy to use."
"The tool helped us to more effectively and efficiently gather and structure the information (requirements, test plans, project management data, etc.), and share it with the involved stakeholders in a safe and change-controlled manner."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its browser experience. I rate its traceability feature a ten out of ten. From the initial stage to the release, you can manage everything through a single point."
"The initial setup of this solution was straightforward, and there were not too many problems with it."
"The solution offers good integration."
"It offers good performance."
"Polarion ALM helps us better structure our customer requirements, and we can also validate the specs of our products against those. If anything changes on our side, we see the impact, and we can see the effect If a customer changes requirements."

Cons

"During migrations from other platforms to CodeBeamer, there have been instances where we encountered issues that required redoing certain tasks."
"Codebeamer is not completely compatible with our internal network setup."
"One improvement could be to reduce the system or server requirements. For a client with a medium configuration server, Codebeamer did not work initially until the system was upgraded."
"I would like to see more, easily trackable reports."
"It's still a fairly new tool that lacks maturity right now."
"Codebeamer's UI is somewhat boring, while Jira's is more exciting and user-friendly."
"Usability needs to be improved."
"Certain areas in Codebeamer could be improved, like addressing small issues, glitches, or bugs."
"Nowadays, the dashboard is too complex to be created."
"One of Polarion's shortcomings would be planning. It can handle plans, but the planning feature is very basic."
"Technical support needs some improvement."
"The solution needs to improve its user experience and graphics."
"The solution's editing capabilities need improvement."
"I also recently suggested that CMS consider incorporating generative artificial intelligence into the system."
"The system’s technology is not the most current, leading to missing features that are common in web-based applications."
"As Polarion ALM is a development-oriented tool, easy support or easy access is provided by default, but if I want to use detailed features, I need to write the script, particularly the VM script, and this is its area for improvement. I want Polarion ALM to have a graphical user interface that doesn't need scripting. In the next release of the tool, I'd like for it to not require scripting and programming because needing to run script language is time-consuming."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is good when compared to similar ALM solutions."
"Codebeamer is not a cheap solution."
"They're not the most expensive product on the market, but they're not the cheapest either — I'd say codeBeamer ALM is moderately priced."
"It is reasonably priced and in accordance with the industry standards."
"The solution is expensive."
"If the pricing would come down and it was more affordable then we wouldn't have to switch."
"Our license for Polarion ALM is yearly. And it's not the cheapest tool that we've looked at. So if we had made our decision purely based on the licensing cost, we wouldn't have selected Polarion."
"Software for medical devices is always expensive."
"The license model is okay for large companies but would be quite expensive for smaller enterprises."
"You have to pay around 50-60 euros per user."
"It is an expensive product."
