Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"While we're still new in the implementation, we are excited that we now have a single point of view for all of our backups."
"My advice to anyone considering Cohesity DataProtect is to try it out because the performance seems to exceed the competitors in the market."
"We removed multiple backup systems and replaced with Cohesity."
"The solution is stable, with regular updates and patching."
"Cohesity has improved our backup architecture."
"With Cohesity, you have a template that helps you to backup and restore the right thing to the right place."
"Cohesity DataProtect is easy to deploy and operate."
"Some of the most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect for me include instant mass restore, anomaly detection, and its ability to handle large data volumes effectively."
"The solution is meeting all of our client's requirements. It has good performance."
"The interface of this solution is quite good."
"A full-featured option for managing virtual machines with an instant recovery feature."
"So far, I've found the solution to be easy to use; it's fast and reliable as well, and I can access whatever I need on very short notice."
"The most valuable feature is application availability, which allows us to monitor all agents and accounts."
"We use Veeam Agent for security as well as to ensure we have a backup should the server or discs fatally die."
"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."
"The solution is very stable."

Cons

"There were a few things that required quick support calls in order to get to function correctly."
"We don't love the Exchange integration, it works fine but requires a third-party application called Kroll."
"Their documentation could be refined."
"We would like it to have more capabilities for different kinds of PaaS or SaaS services in the Azure cloud, such as Azure SQL or Azure Cosmos DB."
"We would love to see direct compatibility with HPE Simplivity, which we also leverage."
"I'd like to be able to pause a backup while it's running and have it resume when I tell it to resume."
"I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it."
"Cohesity DataProtect takes hours to restore a single file, even a small one."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"If I'm trying to locate an item to restore from one of the backups, I would appreciate the ability to perform a global search on the catalog."
"Some customers that are in the industrial sector are using legacy systems, systems that are very old and running on Windows 2000 or Windows NT, Windows 2003, and they're physical, they're not even virtual. Veeam here is pretty weak, as Veeam supports 2008 or Service Pack 1 and above."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"Updating and configuration can sometimes be a little bit of a hassel, but once you know the product better it is easy to use."
"They should improve the solution's automation features."
"The scalability is not very good - especially when I want to backup Microsoft Windows."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
"The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"The solution's pricing is in the mid-range, where it's neither costly nor cheap."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. It is cheaper than other backup solutions."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The pricing is good."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We have a license package."
"We have an annual license."
