Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like working on the Azure platform."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"The stability is good, the solution offers good performance, there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, and it's reliable and we haven't had any problems with it at all so far."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows's most useful features is the ease of use and user-friendly."
"My favorite feature in this solution is instant recovery, where you can recover a virtual machine in less than a minute."
"In general, it's worked like a charm; it's helped me do backups and restores and it has never failed me in that perspective, except for the ASM disk issues."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."
"The solution is simple to use."
"Veeam has simplified backups for MSPs over the years and is one of the easiest products to deploy."
"With Replication, Veeam allows us to have a duplicated VM on standby."
"The most important features of backups are them being able to make sure they're reliable, and that whatever you need to restore you have access to, and Veeam offers us that."
"One person can manage parameters."
"It is fast, reliable and secure."
"We switched to Veeam a long time ago because it just works better."
"Its ease of use for restore is really good, and for Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great."

Cons

"If you are doing an AIX backup then you have to use the CLI because it doesn't appear on the console, the way that Windows and Linux jobs do."
"If I'm trying to locate an item to restore from one of the backups, I would appreciate the ability to perform a global search on the catalog."
"The problems that we were experiencing using this solution led us to switch to Commvault."
"In the next release, I would like to see it easier to implement."
"I've found a lot of difficulties on the initial setup and especially in terms of credentials. We really need a Window OS. It doesn't like the domain admin account. it's a primary permission issue."
"I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers."
"The compression ratio and application ratio could still be improved in this solution. Reporting could also be improved, for better monitoring."
"I can't think of anything that may be missing."
"It should support physical servers, and as far as I know, v9 will do this."
"I think Veeam ONE should be included in the base product instead of as an add-on because customers tend to look for simple solutions that are integrated."
"It needs to support more applications."
"They need to address the confusing recovery dialogue."
"The main area for improvement has come in Version 8, that is native support for tape drives and the ability to archive to tape."
"They need to focus more on cloud backup."
"Tape support is still not performing as expected (at least for my opinion) as Veeam relates to tape backup as a repository instead of a long term archive."
"I would want them to improve some technical features that are still missing because we are working with NetApp NVMe and they're not fully supporting it yet. But both NetApp and Veeam know about it and they're working on it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"We use the community edition of the Veeam Backup Replication and it is a software-based license. It can be a little expensive."
"The pricing depends on the number of clients. We pay 10,00 USD per year. On a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate the pricing an eight out of ten."
"The license cost is per socket, per processor. We can have one license with two processors and we can cover everything inside of the test environment that we have."
"A nice aspect of Veeam's pricing is that the cost benefit is good. It's very economical."
"The product is expensive for small businesses."
"I acknowledge there are concerns about pricing, specifically in gaining more customers for VM. We've encountered difficulties in convincing them due to pricing issues. So, I rate it a six."
"We are fine with its pricing policy."
"We have increased our scalability while being able to free up senior resources from recovery activities. I estimate our overall savings to about $20,000 per year."
