Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Zerto leapfrogs those data protection methods and provides a much more affordable BC/DR solution, with improved RPO and RTO."
"ZVR lets us protect our VMs without any impact upon users and greatly improved our RPOs from hours to seconds."
"The granularity enables us to failover specific workloads instead of an all-or-nothing type of scenario, where you have to move your entire IP block and your data center, or you have to move large chunks of VMs. Those situations also make it prohibitive to test effectively."
"The features I find most beneficial about Zerto include continuous data protection, easy configuration, and simplified management with a user-friendly interface."
"The speed of recovery with Zerto versus the speed of recovery with other disaster recovery solutions is night and day. We use Veeam for backups and the amount of time that it takes to recover is so much quicker mounting with Zerto. That's why we extended the journal so that we could capture a few more days and make it easier for us to recover files."
"The feature I appreciate the most in HPE Zerto Software is the move or the failover buttons."
"Rebuilding that infrastructure would take hours, if not days, as opposed to having the ability with Zerto to do a single click, then we are up and running at another site."
"It's a one-stop solution for doing your disaster recovery, irrespective of what cloud you are running."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows's most useful features is the ease of use and user-friendly."
"If you have windows machine at home and you'd like a backup, you can always download their free edition and plug in an external hard disk, and do a full backup of your laptop."
"It's straightforward to set up."
"We have been very happy with the solution so far and would definitely recommend the product to other users, companies, and organizations."
"To do the actual backup configuration is also not too bad."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment. The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"I don't have any major problems with the agent connectivity with Microsoft applications or Microsoft Azure."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."

Cons

"The interface is the only thing that we've ever really had an issue with. It's gone through some revisions; the UI is not clunky, but it's not as streamlined as it could be, and some of the workflow things are not as nice as they could be."
"My only suggestion for how HPE Zerto Software could be improved would be to integrate with other virtualization platforms, as many organizations are moving off of VMware, so having options there would be beneficial."
"With the VPG (virtual protected group) it would be nice if you could pick individuals in the grouping instead of having to failover the whole group."
"HPE Zerto Software needs improvements regarding its dependence on storage vendors; the rising hardware prices lead to numerous vendors entering the market, and HPE Zerto Software must enhance its API integrations continuously as new storage vendors emerge across different geographies."
"They should not make it so expensive so that I can buy more of it."
"The technical support is hit or miss."
"I don't have any idea of areas fro improvement."
"Zerto added the backup feature, but it's not quite up to speed yet when you compare it with the backup capabilities of other solutions out there."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. Let's say you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet."
"Some customers have Oracle databases and Veeam does support back up of Oracle databases."
"Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows should improve by having more features, easier deployment, and compatibility with Unix boxes."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I am not very involved with the pricing, but from my understanding, it is fairly expensive for us. This is why we limit its use to our tier-one customers. We have other disaster recovery solutions for our other customers due to the cost."
"The last time I looked at pricing, it was very good. It's much cheaper by far than VMware."
"My impression is that Zerto is more expensive than other solutions, although I don't have exact numbers."
"Zerto is not cheap but is an invaluable asset."
"It was pretty appropriate. It was not too cheap, not too expensive. It was just about right."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"Its price can be better, but it is not bad. Most small-scale organizations can afford it, but they can come up with more customer-friendly packages."
"I'd like to see better tiering for Zerto's pricing. We do multi-tier VMs. I don't think I should be paying a penalty and price for a tier-three VM where I don't need a really tight SLA like I do for a tier-one."
"Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The pricing is good."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
