Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It reduced the time for DR tests from the infrastructure side, and being able to get our work done in a matter of a couple of minutes so the app teams can get to work and can do their testing has been significant."
"Zerto's scalability has been good."
"It gives us a seamless, performant data center migration. When we were migrating between physical data centers, we did what normally would have been a 72-hour job in about 18 hours. A large part of that was thanks to Zerto being able to rate limit and throttle how much data was being sent or transfers were happening. Being able to script around it and create governors was important. We didn't have that previously. That is one big use case that has saved an immense amount of time and effort."
"The software has been awesome."
"I find it easy to use, and the UI is really easy to navigate. We reduced our time with backups from days to less than half an hour for the same data service."
"The most valuable features of Zerto are the ease of use and recovery speed."
"It has been a phenomenal addition, and proved its worth in the pilot phase, when it saved us from having to rebuild a machine that was included in our pilot trial."
"It's easy to use. We don't need formal training."
"It is easy to deploy."
"The most valuable features are backup and restore, and this solution is also easy to use."
"User-friendly data backup and protection solution for a Windows environment, the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is very scalable, stable, and has good compatibility and integration."
"The most valuable feature is application availability, which allows us to monitor all agents and accounts."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"Veeam helps to create a stable environment with virtual servers."
"This is a good product with a simple environment."
"It's straightforward to set up."

Cons

"The one area I see a need for improvement is supposedly on the roadmap, which is to be able to replicate to multiple locations."
"I always get some blowback about the cost. It does not seem too bad to me. We had to upgrade to a premium subscription to get some other features. Maybe a one-size-fits-all option would be better."
"The only thing I really don't like about Zerto is that the ZVM has to be a Windows server."
"Another thing that would help would be a recommender, or some type of tool that says, 'Hey, you're not conforming to best practices.' It would do a conformance or compliance check to tell you if your VPGs are set up according to best practices and whether your Zerto clusters are set up optimally. It would see if you have HA enabled and whether your alerting is turned on."
"Zerto could improve the product by lowering the cost."
"With the current updates primarily on the Azure side of it, documentation could be improved."
"It was a little bit expensive."
"This solution could be improved by being more cloud agnostic."
"The problems that we were experiencing using this solution led us to switch to Commvault."
"The backups can go slow."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"I would like there to be more integration with other platforms."
"I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We find the Zerto pricing fits our budget."
"There is a one-time cost for maintenance and support. We have a three-year contract that we will have to renew when those three years come up. There is also licensing on top of that for whatever product you are using it for."
"The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features."
"While conducting our proof of concept, I compared prices with just one other vendor. At the time, the price for Zerto was more favorable."
"Obviously, it would be nice to have it for free. Nevertheless, a lot of effort has gone into making it a top-notch product. An excellent product with expert support is never going to be cheap. I think it's fairly priced for what it does and the benefit it brings to our business."
"The pricing for this solution is reasonable."
"My impression is that Zerto is more expensive than other solutions, although I don't have exact numbers."
"It is not the cheapest option on the market, but it offers a number of features that make it a good value for businesses that need a comprehensive disaster recovery plan."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"We have a license package."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"The pricing is good."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
