Has supported flexible multi-platform backups and improved over time
Regarding the effectiveness of Dell NetWorker in terms of role-based access controls, I have experience with it, but I find it somewhat lacking in flexibility as it offers limited features, and I would rate it around seven out of ten. It is not that there is something wrong with the role-based access controls in Dell NetWorker, but it lacks many permissions or roles to assign, providing options only for administrator or user. To improve Dell NetWorker for the next release, I recommend enhancing flexibility in the policy, allowing selection of multiple options within the same policy, and addressing issues like the DNS lookup dependency to make it more controllable from Dell NetWorker itself rather than relying on other applications. Looking forward, I would like to see improved policy features and a more enhanced GUI, as it is still slow.

Good policies related to data
I primarily use it for various policies related to data, such as data retention, data deletion, and archiving policies. All policies can be set using this system The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities. I would like to see more integration with different platforms,…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I'm very satisfied with Dell's technical support."
"The software implementation takes about 30 minutes."
"The solution has a longer lifespan, so the customer doesn't have to change their solution and upgrade every four years, and it's much better for the customer to have a stable piece of software that has a lifespan of maybe ten years or more."
"The full backup is a great feature. Restoration is also good and very quick."
"I feel that it is a good product."
"The feature that offers the greatest benefits in ensuring data integrity is its backup capability."
"Once the scheduler is configured, backups proceed without any interruption."
"The updated graphical interface is better than it used to be."
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"

Cons

"There are some limitations regarding scalability of the product."
"The initial implementation is not straightforward. It's a bit complex."
"I believe that the area of support could be improved. They don't appear to have an adequate number of staff members to assist us if we have any problems."
"There are too many reboots and the software requires constant updating - just like Windows. I don't like that so I feel that it isn't very stable."
"I would like to see the user interface improved, more documentation, faster support, and it could be easier to configure."
"It is not easy to understand and deploy. It is complex in nature."
"The user interface needs some work. It would be beneficial to have a single user interface for all of the features."
"We are able to do direct backups, but analyzing the logs is not straightforward."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is based on the number of terabytes, so you need to purchase packages."
"If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity."
"We use a license without a time term. We just need to buy additional support when needed."
"The pricing for the telecom, government, and banking sectors is relatively affordable."
"The licensing model can be traditional licensing or capacity-based licensing."
"There is a licensing fee."
"It is excellent from the pricing point of view. It is free with Data Protection Suite. Similarly, when you purchase Avamar, Dell EMC NetWorker is free with one terabyte license capacity. Its price is very competitive."
"Dell NetWorker has two types of licensing models."
