Enables seamless integration with multiple software and outstanding AI tools
The main issue with the DirectVXL appliance is that it only supports a single orchestrator or hypervisor. If multi-hypervisor support is required and VMware does not provide it, then Dell's appliance won't support it. I find it overly reliant on VMware. In cases of company mergers involving different platforms, software that can handle a multi-hypervisor environment would facilitate quicker integration.

Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I like the most is that it is easy to implement, easy deployment and that it's easy to manage."
"The solution's hardware is great."
"It's an extremely stable solution, and I highly recommend it."
"We are getting time back to other things because we are not having to look after the infrastructure, as we have had to do in the past."
"Overall, the Dell XC Appliance is a very good product."
"Overall, the solution is great."
"Dell's appliances provide several key benefits, including horizontal and vertical scalability up to 64 nodes, proprietary artificial intelligence tools that are uncommon in the industry, seamless iDRAC integration with VMware to monitor VM details, performance, and hardware issues from one screen, and CloudIQ software that proactively addresses configuration errors."
"What I like the most is that it is easy to implement, easy deployment and that it's easy to manage."
"The way it does backups is its most valuable feature. It replicates snapshots with very low bandwidth. We only have a 50 megabit link to that site, and it doesn't really use much of it at all. Therefore, it is a really good fit for getting our backups done."
"I like SimpliVity because it can be adapted for small clients or the biggest ones. It's flexible."
"The ease of managing this system."
"Operational efficiency is definitely one of the biggest benefits, as they could get rid of all those man hours worrying about babysitting their SAN and their servers and the network and take those hours and put them back into real value for the business working on issues with the applications, not the SAN and the infrastructure."
"We like the backup feature, which is inbuilt."
"SimpliVity is as scalable as all the other solutions."
"Valuable features include ease of use, disaster recovery, and reliability."
"SimpliVity's console is useful."

Cons

"We are not always advised of new features or updates, so we must research to stay up to date."
"The main issue with the DirectVXL appliance is that it only supports a single orchestrator or hypervisor. If multi-hypervisor support is required and VMware does not provide it, then Dell's appliance won't support it."
"Currently, there is no support for the servers that are not in the cluster."
"Currently, there is no support for the servers that are not in the cluster."
"The main issue with the DirectVXL appliance is that it only supports a single orchestrator or hypervisor."
"To improve this product, I think there is a lot of work that is required by Dell to simplify the maintenance and life cycle upgrades."
"There should be more provisioning capabilities within the solution."
"In the next release, I would like to see support for Docker and containers."
"They don't provide a portal to create a ticket directly for the HPE SimpliVity. We have a web portal to create a ticket when we have an issue, but for HPE SimpliVity, we need to call the local vendor for support."
"The solution could improve by adding better support of the VMware add-ons and a more intuitive user interface for administrators."
"Overall, SimpliVity has a lot of features, however, those features need to be more precise. It's like a jack of all trades and master of none."
"Not being able to apply ESXi patches as needed has always been a concern, but it has not become a big issue."
"They should optimize the administration stack because it is consuming too much memory."
"The fact that it is compatible with vCenter (VMware) only; however, the company says Hyper-V and KVM are coming shortly."
"I would like to see it be a truly hybrid-cloud solution where I could take my on-prem SimpliVity environment and have replication to a cloud install."
"We had one call with technical support which was not completely answered to our satisfaction. We did not receive the right answer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is dependent on the technology and is in direct relation to the manufacturer and the components."
"The price point is very fair for a product in this category but can vary depending on the components selected within the family of products."
"We received a good price from Dell."
"The pricing for Dell EMC solutions is quite expensive and not really made for small or medium-sized businesses."
"The pricing is good."
"The only thing that I think we are paying for is the VMware licenses, but we are enterprise, so it is not horrible."
"For most use cases, look to see if you can use all-flash as the price point, as it has come down significantly."
"The price is one of the biggest problems our customers have."
"The licensing cost could be lower."
"The solution is affordable and quite reasonably priced in terms of the product one gets."
"Investing less time in configuration and management means that you will have more time to focus on what is really important: Your company's innovation and rapid commercialization."
"Cost of this product is high."
"The solution is expensive; not every budget can fit in there."
