Unified licensing and AI-driven control have simplified multi-site management and boosted automation
There is a little bit of delay for the analytics in ExtremeCloud IQ, but it is acceptable. The response time in ExtremeCloud IQ is a little slow. The system response time is slow, and the updates on the system, such as the updates for the analytics or for the location-based services, are slow. For example, if I want to update the location-based solution, it takes about one minute to update my location. This is too much time. It's not an accurate location over one minute. They should enhance the response of the system part of location-based services, such as Extreme LPS or Extreme Location Essentials. This needs a huge improvement for the latency and for the updates.

Reliable network monitoring and proactive analytics enhance decision-making with areas for configuration improvement
NNMi is an OpenText product and serves as the OpenText Network Node Manager monitoring tool. OpenText Network Node Manager is used for network monitoring of switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, and all network devices. It can support any SNMP protocol. The advantages of OpenText Network Node Manager stand out because it can build the topology, Layer 2 topology, and Layer 3 automatically once devices are added, connecting them together, such as device one, for interface one, connected with interface one on another device. The integration capability of OpenText Network Node Manager is excellent because it integrates directly, and I can configure the integration to feed the CMDB, from where I can get all information from network monitoring into the CMDB, linking it with the infrastructure and correlating events. I use advanced fault monitoring and management features in OpenText Network Node Manager for topology and fault monitoring, as it can alert or generate an event if the value exceeds or falls below a predefined threshold for SNMP traps. The predictive analytics impact planning and optimization strategies because the product can be linked with another product for analytic analysis, allowing me to see the interface utilization trend and proactively take action if the utilization increases. The automated network discovery features and topology mapping in OpenText Network Node Manager have a positive impact. It supports a bundle with another product for NetFlow to monitor traffic, ports, protocols, and SLAs, and I can build compliance reports to address security vulnerabilities, such as identifying all devices using outdated protocols.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Aerohive has been a very good solution for us, and we have always been able to get great service and great support."
"Aerohive makes it much faster and easier to deploy."
"Being a controller-less solution is more cost effective and gives more flexibility."
"I am taking over the Director of Technology position in a few days and I am thrilled to say that I have no worries at all about our wireless network."
"The cloud management gives us the tools and reports that we need to monitor and troubleshoot the network."
"With multiple tasks, Aerohive has been a huge time saver and streamlined our IT tasks."
"Aerohive has been the perfect fit for a University like us."
"Since we started to work with this product, we have been able to save a lot of time, money, and support costs for our customers."
"Real time network monitoring application: It is very stable, which provides quick root cause analysis (RCA) for any network faults."
"A complete solution for network monitoring."
"The most important benefit is to have one controller and to get all information to a single point."
"We need fault, availability, performance, and security."
"The Network Manager has improved incident tracking and speed of response to trouble tickets."
"It has gradually evolved over time from a long initial stage to now where it's a very high scale product."
"The great thing about this solution is its compatibility for enterprise level organizations; if you need to install 10,000 or even 20,000 devices, it's easy to monitor, and the product's fault management is awesome."
"It gives us a good overview of what's happening in our networks and the devices in the networks."

Cons

"A better user interface is needed as it's more complex than other vendor's interfaces."
"The Virtual Appliance crashed once while doing an upgrade. The good thing here is, even if the management system fails, all our networks and features still remain 100% stable and working."
"The only thing that I can think of would be for them to provide a standard out-of-the-box WiFi policy template that could work as temp default setup without having to build a functional network policy in the Hive Manager."
"Certain features only exist or work in certain versions."
"When there are errors, the description could be worded better to give you a better idea of what is wrong."
"Pricing could be improved. It could be lower."
"First time users may find it difficult to get going into the right direction."
"The tool has simplified things, but it also adds a complexity that sometimes stumps some users."
"Customer service is not good compared to IBM or Zenoss support."
"When I open a ticket, usually they respond very late. Some of the people I negotiate with seem undertrained."
"Reporting. Even though this is available in separate software (iSPI) there is potential in making the reporting more SLA-aware and more intuitive."
"It is hindering us so much because we cannot give it directly to customers because after a number of connections, the system goes down within one minute."
"I haven't had a great experience with this solution because the dashboards are not customizable and it's not user-friendly."
"I want to have some of those nicer features for when networks go flapping. I want to receive alerts before problems occur rather than when it actually goes down."
"In terms of improvement, I would say that the resources utilized could be a bit higher, and that is one of the challenges that isn't optimized to my expectations."
"We are very dissatisfied with the technical support. We have multiple demands and even the engineers are not satisfied."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Customers need to pay a yearly licensing fee for ExtremeCloud IQ, which is a little bit expensive."
"I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
"I did a multi-year license. It was a three-year license. It compares well with others in terms of the price. It is about a hundred dollars per year on a three-year scale."
"Start small and grow big. You can choose the basic Aerohive Connect free subscription solution and, later, if needed (in terms of functionality) you can upgrade to Aerohive Select."
"It is costly as compared to Meraki, Aruba, Juniper, and Cisco. Cloud IQ is an enterprise solution, whereas Meraki is specifically a single solution."
"Bring the cost down."
"The pricing is so cost-effective that it leaves no room for competition with other vendors."
"ExtremeCloud IQ's pricing is medium, but its support contract costs more."
"The solution is priced mid-range compared to the competition."
"I wasn't involved in the pricing, but I think it's quite expensive."
"It is more inexpensive than other products in the market."
"It's an expensive solution."
"The solution is quite expensive."
