Comprehensive monitoring boosts security, yet incident management features need expansion
Fortinet FortiSIEM should broaden its remediation part to include more features for incident management. Currently, to manage repetitive incidents or for remediation, I need to use a separate software called FortiSOAR. Additionally, the search functionality in FortiAI should be improved to provide more precise results, making it easier for me to understand what actions need to be taken.

Has supported compliance needs for mid-sized organizations but lacks customization and advanced integration
If we pitch Rapid7 InsightIDR against solutions such as SIEMs from Splunk or LogRhythm, it is not as customizable as a SIEM solution is. This is where it can improve if we keep in front the feature sets of a complete SIEM solution. Most common in the market is QRadar, but it is depleting now. It has been taken over by some other products such as Splunk and LogRhythm. If we compare these things with Rapid7 InsightIDR, then there are definitely some gaps that need to be filled. Data retention is also one concern because Rapid7 InsightIDR is cloud-based and operates on a subscription model. Whatever data you want to retain, it has to be paid for separately or it has a cost. Other solutions that are on-premises can have their own infrastructure or they provide some data retention for a month or in some capacity-wise, they provide that solution to them which makes them more attractive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability is very reliable. It offers very good performance."
"AccelOps gives us a greater visibility into potential data/network breach attempts with the monitoring and alerting capabilities."
"AccelOps can handle a lot of data and it's just so important to true monitoring. Also, I can create a lot of rules to detect anything I like."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiSIEM is the correlation of many events."
"The Threat Hunting feature provides complete traffic analysis."
"Fortinet FortiSIEM's most valuable feature is the simplicity in handling multi-tenancy and the ability to switch between different clients at the same time. That was handled flawlessly."
"Analytics is the most valuable feature. The business service summaries in the dashboards and the correlations for the SIEM are also valuable features."
"The solution provides satisfying native integration features"
"The most valuable features have to do with ease-of-use, as it is easy to check the events, investigate suspicious activities, and do forensic analysis, and the web interface is great — very useful and user-friendly."
"The web interface is great — very useful and user-friendly."
"I definitely recommend Rapid7 InsightIDR."
"The alerting to drive investigations and remediation has been its most valuable feature, plus the ability to quickly search multiple logs makes investigations easier."
"The log aggregation and storage provided by InsightIDR has shown no issues with scalability; aggregating over one hundred millions events daily."
"The incident case management is the most valuable feature, and the ability to quickly sort through all the logs, network and endpoint data, and add it to an incident case as part of the investigation, with automatic timelining and correlation to other notable events and activities on the network, results in a huge improvement in our overall confidence that we have quickly traced down the right source of an issue."
"Very intuitive and easy to set up."

Cons

"Their technical support is horrible. By horrible, I mean a train wreck of a disaster that has fallen off a bridge and caught fire."
"There could be improvements like introducing some solutions directly into FortiSIEM to avoid the need for separately purchasing additional tools like FortiStore."
"There could be more AI features included in the product."
"It lacks a "wizard" that shows a particular user's activity or particular circumstance."
"FortiSIEM needs to expand its integration with third-party vendors. I don't know if Forcepoint has been added, but there were limited resources for integrating Forcepoint solutions when we implemented FortiSIEM. It integrates well with other Fortinet products and solutions from established cybersecurity companies like Palo Alto but doesn't integrate with some of the newer vendors."
"Issues that could have been resolved in 30-60 minutes sometimes took months, but they have improved."
"The tool's technical team's response time is too high, and they are not available even when they know that there are many pending issues."
"The backup and recovery process for this solution needs improvement."
"The interface for doing investigation needs to be enhanced with minor improvements that would make it more useful."
"Currently, it lacks the functionalities provided by Rapid7's User Behavior Analytics (UBA)."
"The product allows us to make only 30 custom rules."
"It would be useful to import threat intelligence in YARA format along with known incorrect email addresses."
"InsightIDR is only available in a cloud version. Some of our customers prefer an on-prem solution because they want to manage the security within their environment."
"The solution needs improvement in threat intelligence. Increasing the depth of intelligence to help users understand more about threats is a possibility. My suggestion is to expand access to other websites or resources."
"Lacks a mobile application."
"There are certain limitations with Rapid7 that I am working on."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is available for both, perpetual and subscription licenses."
"There are additional features that cost more than the standard licensing fees."
"The price of Fortinet FortiSIEM is a lot less when compared to other solutions."
"The price is competitive."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges attached to the product. The free version license of the product is available for two months."
"The tool is really expensive. For what the tool does for our team, the price is fair."
"Fortinet FortiSIEM is very cost-efficient compared to other SIEM solutions."
"Please be cheaper and more simplified."
"The team is very willing to work with companies. My suggestion is to call the Rapid7 sales department and see how they can help."
"I rate Rapid7 InsightIDR's price a four on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"The pricing and licensing are competitive."
"Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
"The solution has a mid-range price point in the market"
"Rapid7 InsightIDR's pricing is reasonable but we have challenges with the Minimum Order Quantity. It is not reasonable for customers who have less than one hundred devices. If they can reduce Minimum Order Quantity, it is good. You have to pay around 5000-6000 dollars per year for the product. The pricing includes maintenance and support costs."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is priced very well and is cost-effective."
"It is on a yearly basis. For our own company, for about 250 users, it was 16,000 euros a year."
