Have faced some confusion with the interface but have managed collaboration and document sharing efficiently
We currently use Notion for project management and CRM, which includes document capabilities and task management features. We have a self-hosted solution and utilize Google Drive Enterprise for everyday tasks. We are customers of Google and integrate Google Drive Enterprise with third-party applications. The compliance requirements are met through the platform's features. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Google Drive Enterprise an 8.

Has transformed how I manage documents through metadata and automation while enabling structured collaboration
Microsoft should restore some functionalities from older versions of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2003 and 2010. Specifically, bringing back something similar to SharePoint Designer would be beneficial. SharePoint Designer was both advantageous and challenging - developers found it limiting and preferred Visual Studio, while non-developers struggled to use it effectively. A new tool for configuring webpage design and development for content pages would be valuable. The current system is too basic. While integration of filtered lists and libraries is possible, it requires knowledge of Python or jQuery. A WYSIWYG editor would be preferable to requiring programming knowledge or Visual Studio.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Accessing their services is simple, user-friendly, and does not require a lot of technology."
"The initial setup is easy."
"There's no real implementation necessary."
"The solution is very user-friendly."
"I like how Google Drive syncs content across all my devices; it allows me to transfer files between multiple devices at the same time, and I also like the versioning features."
"The service gives me the confidence of knowing that I have a backup copy of all my data and it can be accessed at any time."
"It's very easy to manage files and share files on Google Drive Enterprise, and these are its most valuable features."
"Google Drive Enterprise has helped compile data in one spot."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its document management, which allows sharing with external users and integrates well with Office apps and Microsoft Flow."
"The solution is a Microsoft product, so they are constantly improving the solution."
"I believe the control and the restrictions, accesses that we can have once we decide to share any document through Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, are the most beneficial aspects for me."
"Microsoft Office SharePoint Server helps with return on investment as it saves a lot of time and helps clients improve their processes."
"Using these features together, we converted our paper work to electronic digital data."
"The features for low-code and no-code capabilities in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are among the best, which are very user-friendly and not seen in any other cloud services, such as S3 from AWS and blob storage from Azure."
"Because of the integration of documents stored in SharePoint to be edited by any of the Office Suite products, that overpowers and is a greater good than what DocuShare brought to the company."
"The best features of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server are the integration between SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and email."

Cons

"Google meets use of whiteboard is primitive making it difficult to demonstrate while talking."
"It would be helpful if there was a synchronization option that would allow me to synchronize folders or emails with my online repository. That way, any new items added to the folder would automatically be uploaded to the solution, without me having to manually upload them."
"Improvements could include better editing features within a Word document, similar to the characteristics of on-premises versions, such as more formatting functions. Another improvement could be file transfer from the browser to the desktop, making it as simple as drag and drop."
"The Google Sheets should have more functionality."
"Once you move off of the free version and go to the enterprise solution, it can get quite pricey."
"The conversion of Microsoft Office documents into Google documents could be improved."
"The search function in Google Drive Enterprise could be improved as it currently requires looking through many documents to find the right one."
"The only thing that's really been annoying is the single file size limit."
"Workflows could be simplified."
"The GUI is outdated."
"From Microsoft, the support normally takes longer than we need and it's not a route we appreciate."
"With SharePoint, if you change the location of a file or you change its name, you are breaking those links."
"I would like to see more Agile techniques and seamless integration with other applications."
"The solution is like a CRM, so the initial setup is complex. It takes a few days to deploy the solution and the length of time depends on how large the company's topology is and what the client's demands are."
"Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is more accessible for the average user, but it lacks certain features that more advanced users would look for, making it seem unnecessarily complicated to do simple things or things one expects to be simple."
"I think these tools do a pretty good job. There is only one area of improvement. Maybe Microsoft can invest a little bit more into the ease at which integration can be done with other third party applications."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"I pay for the additional storage. Otherwise, it's free as a basic plan, 15 GB."
"I am using the free version."
"I use the free version."
"It is inexpensive and the cost is per user per month."
"The price could be better."
"That would be ideal if it were as cheap as possible."
"The price of Google Drive Enterprise is affordable and is one of its best features. I am on a monthly subscription."
"There are some aggressive discounts offered by Microsoft for organizations that are not for profit, which we are, and it makes it quite attractive to consider."
"Pricing plans may be flexible depending on volume usage and your corporate relationship with Microsoft."
"One of the reasons why we don't recommend the cloud version of SharePoint is the cost. With the on premise version, you pay for the license once. For the cloud version, there is a recurring fee. It is very expensive. They expect everyone to pay $20 or $30 per user per month."
"It can be expensive for on-premises deployments, especially when you have to support SQL Server as your backend database. That's where the cost comes into play. SQL Server has its own licensing, which Microsoft keeps on changing. Therefore, it can become costly. In the earlier versions of SharePoint, version 2007 or 2010, they had an express version where the SQL Server licensing was free. It wasn't like a full-blown SharePoint. It was only a slimmed-down version. It used to be whatever your hardware costs. You would install the free software and work with it, but you were very limited in what you could do in SharePoint. If you wanted the SharePoint Enterprise Server with all the bells and whistles, then you had to pay more to get the SQL Server license based on the number of users or servers. The subscription model is different for cloud deployments. Licensing is per user and per month. The cost also depends on the storage required. If you have a lot of sites or documents, then you need to expand it based on your needs."
