It's easy to setup and the plugins are easy to write. When we need to, the threshold is easy to change It would be nice to have a centralized client-settings management. At the moment, the client settings have to be changed individually. I've used it since 2011. The deployment of the new server…

Central monitoring has improved outage alerts and now needs smarter detection and modern dashboards
Regarding the automated network topology and mapping feature in SolarWinds NPM, I am not satisfied with it. For static monitoring, it is acceptable. However, if it is possible, I would need a feature in SolarWinds in the future for some kind of malfunctioning detection, such as malware attacks or that type of environment. We did not have any facility to detect that in SolarWinds. I think it would be better to incorporate those types of features. Regarding customization options in SolarWinds, the ability to customize the dashboard has room for improvement. The dashboard is quite old, and we need some improvement in it. Nowadays, we have multiple tools with AI-based monitoring and web-based dashboards. SolarWinds also has a web-based dashboard, but I think there is scope for improvement in the UI. There may be other areas I would like to improve in SolarWinds NPM.

Pros

"It's easy to setup and the plugins are easy to write."
"Monitoring capabilities are at a high level and it is easy to see utilization, access ports, and CPU memory in real time or through a lens for long-term visualization."
"The most important feature is reporting. The reports that are generated are useful and they save a lot of time with respect to monitoring."
"As we look to add more servers to our virtual environment and to understand the impact, the solution allows us to dig into the historical charts related to capacity planning."
"This solution offers a very good view of our network and allows us to effectively monitor performance."
"With SolarWinds, everything just works."
"The solution ranks as one of the top five monitoring tools."
"SolarWinds NPM features that I have found most valuable are the reporting tools and the ability to create customized reports."
"Having all 3 products tied together gives me the data I need to accurately pinpoint a problem within moments, instead of collating data from various applications and servers."

Cons

"Deploying an agent leaves much to be desired."
"We had scalability issues. We have several additional servers, too, so upgrading is kind of a pain, but that's with all the other modules, too."
"It is difficult for stakeholders to translate technical requirements, which results in difficulties selecting a platform or implementing a solution."
"Sometimes there are issues when upgrading to a new version of the product."
"Technical Support: This is also an area where SolarWinds could do a lot better."
"SolarWinds is expensive. That's why it's primarily banks using the solution."
"The only other issue I have is that sometimes when upgrading, it becomes complicated to manage the upgrade."
"Being able to detect devices that are trying to connect wirelessly would make using this solution much easier."
"This product could improve by adding cloud monitoring. I want SolarWinds NPM to do much more integration, and have more involvement in cloud monitoring, like AWS or Google, or Azure."
