Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Expert Backup at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
A virtual deduplication backup appliance that protects physical and virtual data across remote sites, the datacenter and cloud deployments
Given its ease of use and management, I believe there are no specific caveats that users need to be aware of during the setup of DXRIS for backups. The process was straightforward, and I did not encounter any challenges or issues. As for a rating on a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, I would rate the Quantum DXI Series a nine. My deduction is primarily influenced by personal preferences, particularly regarding the user interface and it is a highly commendable system, I would rate it a solid nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"Great backup features for all my Hyper V machines."
"The interface is user-friendly and even if our tech isn't onsite, we can work with the owners to confirm that the data will be restored with no issues."
"I have no reservations recommending Altaro for the Hyper-V based small to medium sized business."
"It is an excellent product; it is easy to deploy, stable, and fast, and their support is excellent."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication, and the mix of these features leads to a reduced backup footprint while having guaranteed fast recovery in case of DR."
"We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost."
"All of the features are fantastic and also the management from Microsoft dealing with multiple machines is great. The whole package is excellent for me."
"I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas."
"While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent."

Cons

"The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself."
"However it has No support for Tape Drive backup – So no Disk-to-tape backup is possible."
"Backup speed and comparisons between versions used to be slow on big VMs but that was improved greatly later on."
"I had some difficulties activating the product but after the activation phase all went smooth."
"The application could include a feature to install a set size of data, such as the ability to store a single application with all its registry information for easy transfer."
"We use Linux guests on Hyper-V clusters and we really need the file level restore on these VMs (ext3 and 4 file systems) functionality."
"Unable to restore a VM when I needed it. Tried multiple hosts. Connected via gig switch and would never complete."
"If you look into the performance of a virtual machine and you look to the performance of the physical machine, the correlation between these is totally unclear."
"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability."
"Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"The pricing is okay,"
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
