Flexible monthly infrastructure has simplified management and improved client cost control
Some valuable points about HPE GreenLake are that it is a managed solution in the same pane of glass. HPE GreenLake integrates well with the existing infrastructure, and it is straightforward. HPE GreenLake positively impacts my organization because it saves money and time, and it improves my sales because I have another solution to reduce costs for the client. The client may need to pay two thousand dollars to change every infrastructure in one payment, but not all clients have the total amount available. However, if it is possible to pay month-to-month for the solution, it is much easier for the client to accept the proposal. HPE GreenLake's real-time monitoring tools are good, and I really need them to improve the services.

Hybrid data migration has reduced costs and now needs stronger security and database integration
I would like to share something that I believe could improve Zadara's process, which is the issue of communication with databases. Today we have MongoDB as a cloud service, so integration with databases in Zadara would bring better performance in connection in SaaS models and in dynamic models that could bring a platform and a solution that could increase Zadara's usage in the market and in its business scope. Zadara can improve in the database integration area as I mentioned. Zadara can have better dynamism such as MongoDB in SaaS and bring this better dynamism by connecting and offering it within the clouds as a possibility of block storage within that partner cloud, such as AWS EBS, Google's cloud storage, or something within Azure. Creating a stronger partnership where this block storage can become an API connectable across various clouds but native to those clouds would be beneficial. I noticed simplicity in the security part during the time I used Zadara, so I believe Zadara's security needs to improve to provide more and deliver more security visibility to the end customer so that they feel more secure with data encryption and attack protection. A WAF on the API connection that goes through greater protection, something along those lines, could help guarantee that the data is protected by Zadara.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The biggest thing that it gives us is reportability; that's the critical component. By giving us a monthly bill that is expandable based on usage, we're able to report back to the organization on the value that we're actually getting out of the hardware platform."
"It sort of lines up with our direction to move to the cloud. By using a hybrid cloud service to get us there, this allows us to run our legacy workloads on-premise. Those which are not really suited to a proper cloud."
"In the next four years over the lifespan of the first segment, it's going to be saving us approximately $1.2 million in just hardware purchases and software support costs."
"It has helped us with the planning, and in concert with this, we are doing a lot of virtualizations. For a lot of cases, we are bringing in less gear and equipment to be able to accomplish the same things. It makes better use of what we do bring in."
"The fact that we can now add storage on the fly without any downtime means better productivity and scalability on demand."
"It has made our organization's capacity management efforts so much better. Usually, engineers need to take time to worry about firmware updates and and getting that stuff done. However, that falls to the wayside, knowing with GreenLake's data center management and data center support that all the firmware has been tested for all the equipment that you have. When you apply the updates, nothing should go wrong, because it has already been fully tested."
"It is the flexible way to pay for everything that you need and pay as you go."
"HPE GreenLake is highly stable."
"We have seen a return on our investment with Zadara storage, and it's because it has enabled us to deliver almost limitless capacity."
"Being able to scale on demand, and being able to get out of our security operation center, and not having to purchase hardware upfront, has drastically reduced the overhead that was required to maintain our information. We have also gained additional capabilities in terms of speed of replicating that information."
"Zadara saves both time and money."
"Overall Zadara is a useful solution that provides good services."
"Zadara offers competitive services that are among the best options available for storage services and cloud computing."
"The most valuable feature of Zadara is its ease of use and safety, and overall the solution is a complete package with all the features needed."
"It provides very satisfactory storage performance."
"I find Zadara's user-friendliness from both the customer and engineering perspectives highly appreciated."

Cons

"The support service needs improvement. The support team isn't very active in addressing cases. It should also provide a web application."
"HPE GreenLake can improve by making some of the user's experience better. It can take some time to learn."
"I don't think we have seen an actual return on investment or that the return is not directly related to the product."
"We are still managing the VMs in our IT operations."
"Part of the integration, with cutting things over to Unisys, may have hurt us a bit."
"Unfortunately, HPE GreenLake can be sold only in Bahrain, UAE, and the Middle East, meaning it can be sold in only three or four countries because it requires certain approvals from countries where it has to be used."
"I would like to have more detail in the monitoring."
"I don't think we'll know until we get to the end of the contract if the service has saved us money."
"The cost is not favorable as Zadara does not provide competitive rates for regions like South Africa and Ethiopia."
"Currently, when we do firmware upgrades, it sometimes causes issues and is not as nondisruptive as desired."
"Zadara can be improved by making their interfaces more attractive. They currently look like simple PHP interfaces, but they need to customize and work on their interfaces and user interfaces significantly."
"There is room for improvement in pricing as it is currently quite expensive."
"Some of the features are a little bit slow to come to market."
"In the next release, there can be some improvements to the web console by adding more features because the console is simple. Additionally, the calculator could improve."
"The initial setup of the solution is complex."
"I would like to see them be a little bit more proactive in terms of the patches and updates that are available."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"In terms of pricing, it's a bit on the higher side."
"The price could be more flexible."
"It's a small cost per month compared to that one-time purchase. The big thing is if you get your one-time purchase wrong, then you are buying a lot more. With GreenLake, if we miss estimate (which with all the planning, you usually don't), we sign a piece of paper, and then they send more equipment in."
"Our first year costs were approximately $1.2 million instead of spending five to six million dollars."
"HPE GreenLake payment model is you pay for what you use. You can purchase a yearly, quarterly, or half-year license. The overall price of the solution is a little high and hopeful there can be better margins in the future."
"Right now we're paying about $180,000 per year."
"If you are looking to turn some of your capital expense into operational expense, this allows you to do it. It is a good idea."
"If you're used to buying HPE servers, it's less expensive than that. I don't really compare competitor servers because HPE has never given me any reason to look otherwise. However, if you get good pricing on HPE servers, you get better pricing on GreenLake."
"If you just take the street price of Zadara Storage Cloud and look up the price or cost per hour, then you could think that Zadara Storage Cloud is extremely expensive or a solution only for enterprise use. That is not true. You need to compare the entire system. This means that you don't stop looking at just the street price, but you need to consider all the features, requirements, and costs of support as well as the extra cost that other vendors have. Other players just play with hidden, additional costs. Everything is included in Zadara Storage Cloud's licensing cost; what you get is what you pay for."
"It is a nice licensing model and it makes it quite simple because we just pay for what we use, and the bill that comes shows us exactly what customers are using what resources."
"For our use, it's appropriately priced and overall, it's proved to be very cost-effective against other tier-one vendors."
"The pricing is very competitive and the fact that they have very compelling discounts for multi-year commitments is great."
"The pricing and licensing are very simple and the cost is predictable, although, like everything that you pay for as you use, you have to be mindful of what you're using."
"The price of Zadara is very good and it covers everything. There is no subscription needed."
"One of the factors that ruled out several providers was cost. They were way too expensive for the volume of data that we needed and the speed at which we needed to be able to manage it. There aren't a lot of providers that can do that."

Hey Ramon - happy to help however I can!   There's a good report recently published by GigaOm titled "GigaOm Sonar for Storage as a Service" that does a nice job of highlighting the STaaS vendors - including Zadara and HPE.  You can find it here:  https://gigaom.com/report/stor... I'd suggest that to be a good starting point.
