Has integrated solutions and rapid recovery made management smoother and more reliable
There is the latest update from HPE regarding HPE SimpliVity. For virtualization, HPE has to depend on other manufacturers, OEMs such as VMware or Hyper-V. Recently, HPE declared the VM essential virtualization solution. In the future, if HPE integrates HPE SimpliVity with VM essential, that will be a great combination. Functionality-wise, I am totally satisfied with HPE SimpliVity, but for improvement, if HPE integrates its own virtualization solution, this combination and integration will be beneficial because this integration can be configured with the cloud-based system. A VM can be uploaded to the cloud from this, which will be advantageous for backup to other sites.
Genesis Dapoza - PeerSpot reviewer
simplifies management for clients familiar with VMware, and offers a user-friendly management and configuration experience
With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. These resources, including memory and processor, are actually shared on the VX Series. So, if the server's processor is underpowered or unreliable for the VMs, many of the VMs will encounter issues. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers. The drawback is that the hardware resources (CPU, memory, storage) are shared among all the VMs running on the VX Series. If the server's processor is underpowered for the VMs, many of the VMs might have performance issues. An improvement could be to have more granular control over resource allocation to VMs.

"Having one management console to do everything from was a great improvement over dealing with separate hardware for servers, SANs, backups etc."
"We can backup with more frequency and minimize RPO and RTO."
"It has instantaneous backup and lag-free restore. When everything is running, I can bring back a huge VM in less than 30 seconds. That's even better than Veeam."
"It is a very stable solution."
"The VX machines are scalable."
"The clients like the solution’s simplicity."
"Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series' deployment is easy. We are a tier-one platinum partner who is into multiple implementations."

"We find the setup quite straightforward and very easy."

Cons

"Integration with external solutions outside the HPE posed challenges."
"We would like to have more security with the solution."
"Scalability is something that needs to be improved because if you need more storage then you have to add more nodes."
"There are a lot of different components to choose from in the chassis. This could be easier by providing a standard or a base model to create and configure from."
"The initial setup was complex because it was a new solution."
"SimpliVity has very limited options for the virtualization layer."

"With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers."
"The user management could be a bit better. It's something they could improve upon in future releases."
"Support could be better."
"The product must provide AI features."
"Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series needs to improve its stability. Its resolution should be faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is reasonable. We have purchased a five-year license with all the support and upgrades."
"The price should be cheaper."
"We spent $250,000 back in the day, and that was for two servers in my data center for that cluster. We then ran what they call an arbiter, and that took the place of a third server or the third node in the cluster. My DR site was one standalone server, and its horsepower was more than the two at my main site. It included my Cisco Switches that I needed to re-upgrade. It was comparable to what we were paying a year in VM."
"The time savings on the administration side of things is huge. We had somebody who was dedicated pretty much full-time to hardware, and now, they spend about a quarter of their time a year on hardware-related issues."
"The licenses from the product are expensive compared to the other solutions in the market."
"It is not too expensive, but it is quite expensive for me."
"Customers always complain that SimpliVity is a little bit higher in price point as compared to other solutions available in the market."
"For the VMware licensing, it is approximately $10,000 a year."
"The tool's pricing is competitive."
"There is room for improvement in the licensing structure, maybe. Regarding sizing the resources, sometimes it's difficult to calculate/compute them based on the client's requirements."
"The tool is expensive."
"You need to pay a license for additional features. If we need to monitor hardware for the automatic alert notification, we need to pay them."
