Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

An expensive next-generation data recovery and backup software solution with poor data restoration
Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. It's challenging, and in some cases, they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough resources. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its ease of use and the ability to have a reliable solution for disaster recovery has become invaluable to us."
"The communication between the VM and the secondary data center is the most valuable feature."
"Its user interface is excellent, and when it comes to data duplication, Zerto is very fast."
"It helps us keep our required retention period for specific documents and allows us to recover older documents if we have to compare and recreate those."
"The ease of setting up replication, the speed, and the ease with which I can fail over and fail back are all excellent aspects of the solution."
"The most valuable tool is the dashboard, which allows us to immediately check the DLP status, replication data, and all other data needed to have cleaner and immediate control of the situation."
"Overall, I would rate Zerto a nine out of ten."
"Having Zerto in place takes a headache off my plate."
"I like that they have some new devices that are simpler to use because they kind of tie right into the cloud."
"The technical support has been very good."
"The most valuable feature is the backups."

Cons

"There are quite a few elements in the long-term retention areas that I wish were better."
"The recovery processes of large datasets in the Cloud have room for improvement."
"Remediating VMware clusters gets more complicated because the VRAs are pinned to each host and will prevent the host from entering maintenance mode."
"This solution could be improved by including some sort of compression or de-duplication for the same type of files."
"I would like for Zerto to improve reporting, provide more data on individual VMs and their performance, and maybe expand into backup with the ability to scan for malware or offline scanning."
"I would like Zerto to enhance the continuous backup aspect."
"It was a little bit expensive."
"When changing replication, the Delta Sync takes approximately six hours for six terabyte virtual machines. During this time, the virtual machine is inaccessible."
"Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody."
"I wouldn't use it. It failed me every time I tried to use it in a real-life scenario."
"StorageCraft ShadowXafe should improve the on-premises console management controls and protection and recovery."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was pretty appropriate. It was not too cheap, not too expensive. It was just about right."
"It works very well as a backup and recovery solution, with frequent recovery points. It's very good. But it's too pricey for us to use it as a backup solution for all of our clients. Not every customer needs recovery points every five seconds."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"The pricing is slightly above average, but the immediate and comprehensive support makes the price acceptable."
"This solution is far less expensive than SRM and NetBackup."
"I wouldn't say I like the licensing pricing structure. Every year, it increases exponentially, which bothers me a little. It's worth it in terms of the value, but I worry the price will increase even more often after the Zerto merger. I still think it's worth it and that the solution is cheaper than the others."
"Obviously, it would be nice to have it for free. Nevertheless, a lot of effort has gone into making it a top-notch product. An excellent product with expert support is never going to be cheap. I think it's fairly priced for what it does and the benefit it brings to our business."
"Its price is fair. It is very cost-effective compared to the cost of the labor for your workers and associates."
"They are more expensive than some of the others out there. We have gone away from their cloud due to pricing."
