Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

It's easy to use and restore. Tech support is also good.
Easy to use and restore. Restoring when there is issue. Backup bigger virtual machines (VMs). Six years. No. Some big servers don't seem to backup well. Good. Straightforward. It's easy to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In our DR testing, Zerto allows us to go work on other things while it takes care of everything. That's valuable because we know that we can still hit all of our SLAs in a real disaster."
"It just gives us extra peace of mind; we can backup and recover critical information not only on-premise but also off-premise at multiple places, and it has saved us somewhere in the $150,000 to $200,000 range."
"The failover test option in HPE Zerto Software is the most valuable at this point since we can validate that things are going to come up, that the data is valid, and then tear it back down without having to interrupt the users."
"The simplicity of replication and test failover make this a very easy-to-use solution."
"We have absolutely seen return on our investment with Zerto."
"Its ease of use and scalability are valuable."
"The ease of setting up replication, the speed, and the ease with which I can fail over and fail back are all excellent aspects of the solution."
"Especially when it comes to DR testing, it is very easy to work with and we are able to recover our infrastructure at our DR site within a matter of minutes."
"Easy to use and restore."

Cons

"Whenever we do a failover, there's a confirmation box that shows up later. It's a little hard to see sometimes... A popup to continue would be a little bit better because then you're not sitting and waiting for something and it's already there."
"A lot of the wording isn't very clear. If you don't know what you're looking at, it just doesn't make sense when you are setting it up."
"My only business complaint is the cost of the solution."
"Their offsite backup is a bit clunky, but it will probably improve."
"Its pricing could be better. Also, Zerto needs to improve its reporting capabilities and provide better dashboards."
"Zerto needs to improve its documentation."
"The HPE Zerto Software can be improved with more visibility. It's really hard to find out what stores and what drives I'm using, and then to translate that over to the cloud solution."
"Another area for improvement I'd like to see is the tuning of the VRAs built into the GUI. It's a little cryptic. You really have to be a very technical engineer to get that deep into it. I'd like to see a little better interface that allows you to do that tuning yourself, rather than trying to get their engineer and your engineer together to do it."
"Some big servers don't seem to backup well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Zerto is definitely more costly compared to its competitors, such as VMware Site Recovery Manager. It may not be suitable for small and medium-sized industries."
"I think the cost is reasonable for VM licensing. It's not outside the scope of an enterprise product."
"We're getting our money's worth with Zerto."
"The cost per VM is a bit high."
"There may be less expensive solutions on the market but with Zerto, you get what you pay for."
"My experience with pricing, setup costs, and licensing was straightforward."
"My understanding is that it's expensive but worth the price."
"Zerto's price seems fair. It's competitive."

VMware SRM vs. Veeam vs. Zerto
Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
