A stable and scalable solution with reasonable pricing
The solution has high support capability.  The tool needs to improve its cloud service capability.  I have been working with the solution for 15 years.  I would rate the solution's stability a ten out of ten.  I would rate the tool's scalability a ten out of ten since it is highly scalable. We…

Automated lifecycle management has cut onboarding times and now drives secure, clean access
Although I am a fan of Okta Platform overall, there are areas where it could improve security outcomes and reduce admin friction. My top improvement areas include the system log and analytics upgrade, which are great for point troubleshooting, but trending and root cause analysis across large tenants still require exporting to SIEM. Verbose queries and long-range retention costs can add up. Additionally, while certificate rotations are better than most, the process is still manual for busy portfolios, especially concerning multi-SP SAML certificate rotations and app metadata drift. Two more buckets of potential improvements for Okta Platform involve user experience and security. There is the issue of push fatigue and prompt sprawl, where users receive multiple prompts across different apps and sessions. I arrived at the rating of eight because the core controls are strong and reliable, but a few operational UX and UI gaps prevent it from being rated higher. The reasons for not giving it a nine or ten include ongoing issues concerning safety and change safety, the complexity of group rules and mappings, and the lack of robustness in policy management. Additionally, there remains a need for more manual involvement than necessary, especially for large portfolios and dual certificate rotation, along with proactive SP data metadata validation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The feature that I have found the most valuable is that they are open to connecting with any token. For example, a year ago, we were looking for a soft token, and we started to look for alternatives. They are open to connecting with any token that we looking for."
"The solution has high support capability."
"The product is quite good, and from my point of view, it can serve our requirements."
"The most valuable features are identity management and OpenID."
"Adaptive authentication in Okta Customer Identity is a flexible feature that is very secure and user-friendly."
"Most of what I appreciate about Okta Platform are the no-code features that I have found excellent, as you have a very low requirement to code."
"As far as our security team is concerned, the ease of implementing multifactor authentication is definitely the biggest value for our organization."
"Our clients are happy because prior to implementation, they had a very distributed architecture, and Okta has allowed them to consolidate with respect to identity management, which increases their operational efficiency."
"Having a single sign-on to all our applications."
"The support for YubiKey is really good because you don't actually have to type in your username and password."
"Workforce Identity offers a comprehensive access management solution with multi-factor authentication, total control, and features like app access management, identity governance, and administration tools such as certification and access request management. These are typically found in identity management solutions, but Okta integrates them seamlessly into its user interface."

Cons

"The tool needs to improve its cloud capability."
"The user interface is not quite good and easy to use. There are a lot of menus, and the look and feel is not modern like a modern app."
"There is an access request system that is very limited access to the systems available for end-users. The access request should improve in Okta Customer Identity."
"Okta Platform is a bit expensive compared to other solutions. Okta Platform is a bit expensive, and in fact, I am using the managed services from Okta Platform; they too are a bit expensive for us, but we are using them because we are happy to go with this solution."
"They also have single sign-on (SSO). When we bought Okta Workforce Identity a year and a half ago, I was also looking at SSO, but not much documentation was available for SSO. The documentation for SSO should be a little more robust for somebody who is implementing it for the first time."
"The initial setup is difficult because you're setting it up with your own portal."
"It's not compatible with on-premises installations, unless you host it as a SaaS. We were not able to do that. For example, imagine a scenario where the cloud is not available. Then, Okta will not work for you. That use case will readily fail because it doesn't have an on-premises installation that you can use to authenticate or provide identity and access management. If you have a purely on-premises solution that is not connected to the internet, then this will not work. This is one area that can be improved."
"The major problem we face with Okta Platform is pricing because most of our clientele move away from Okta Platform because of the pricing."
"We experienced some technical glitches that need to be resolved."
"Maybe the interface could use some work but, for the most part, the tool is pretty cool."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate the solution's pricing a three out of ten. The tool's licensing is monthly."
"The solution is not the cheapest but not the most expensive. They are in the middle rating."
"This is an expensive solution but the security makes it worthwhile."
"Pricing might be high, but it comes down when the number of people using the product goes up."
"The licensing is per user per month and includes full technical support."
"It has a yearly subscription. As compared to its competitors, it is quite expensive. It also has a complex licensing model."
"The solution’s pricing needs to be reasonable. You are dealing with a lot of components and the pricing is component-based."
"The solution's pricing model could be better for SMBs."
"We pay 23 pence (approximately $0.30 USD) per user, annually, for 150,000 users."
