Data insights have transformed reporting speed and support faster, informed decisions
IBM Cognos makes it simple to create visually appealing products, and we are able to run about 1,000 reports on a daily basis while another 1,000 are run through the scheduler built into IBM Cognos Analytics. It offers triggering through the scheduler, which we use to confirm the completion of other processes needed to be available before the job is scheduled to run, allowing us to make data-driven decisions easily. Some of the best features that IBM Cognos offers are enterprise reporting, which enables us to create, customize, and run reports on sales trends, consumer sentiment, and many more; dashboard creation; and data exploration and analysis. We are able to use the drag and drop feature to create ad-hoc visualizations. Additionally, I find the AI-powered natural language query feature for data analysis and dashboard input to be very useful for a non-technical person to put queries around the spreadsheets data to get a quick answer. Building insights for accurate decision-making has been great. Moreover, we can package reports with data-backed insights for stakeholders in PDF and Excel format to support business ad-hoc cases, forecasting, and strategic recommendations on relevant tasks. Of all those features, the visual graphs, predictive analytics, and data cleansing feature makes the biggest difference for my team. IBM Cognos is deployed in my organization using a hybrid cloud setup with Amazon Web Services as our cloud provider.

The Briefing Book feature enables measures to be filtered and viewed based on different criteria by end users.
This software is targeted at executive users, not the data analysts who want to slice and dice. The software will not replace your BI tools, but it will sit nicely on top of a BI tool if you want management to have quick and easy access to performance data. Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"IBM has a wonderful support portal where you can submit tickets for issues that are way too complex to understand or control on your own, and the fix central portal will get back to you ASAP and provide solutions to fix your problems."
"With Cognos we are able to present and analyze the KPI's and outcomes our hospital needs to take decisions."
"Using custom controls, it is possible to extend the application with even more functionality and make the application intuitive and attractive."
"Mapbox integration for geospatial analytics down to longitude/latitude layers."
"The product is very scalable and can support thousands of end users, and huge companies are using this product."
"I have worked on the features like dashboards and stories, and I do like them a lot."
"Centralised, balanced, scorecard-based dashboards with drill-through to detailed OLAP; datawarehouse; and operational reports keep the organisation focused on KPIs."
"Security administration tools are powerful and flexible."
"It is a comprehensive solution for performance management, and yet it is easy to setup and easy to use, especially in comparison with Oracle, SAS, Hyperion and SAP."

Cons

"Need improvement towards Visualization."
"As with all products, I have run into bugs; some severe enough to derail the project until IBM provided a patch."
"The tool is complex, and I would not recommend it to small companies, because you need to have expertise for Framework Model development, access rights issues, licensing, etc."
"The dashboard interface needs tremendous improvement as it's not very fast as compared to Tableau and the likes."
"I would give technical support a rating of 4/10. IBM technical support should be improved and their turn-around time should be reduced."
"Complex to learn and use. Need technical team to build solutions."
"Support can be sometimes be disappointing."
"The reporting output/UI is quite old-fashioned."
"It needs to have better quality built in reports."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a standard license required to use this solution. There are some additional tools but I am not sure if they are an extra cost."
"There is need to assess the purchase license accordingly so as to avoid audit penalties."
"It is my understanding that the cost is very low. It's not very expensive."
"The cost of IBM Cognos it's more or less the same as most of the other solutions on the market. They're very competitive with the rest of the market and it is not the most expensive product."
"The licensing costs are a little bit higher for IBM Cognos. I don't think there is any additional cost apart from the licensing charges."
"IBM Cognos is priced reasonable. However, it is more expensive than Power BI and Tableau."
"Pricing should be improved."
"IBM Cognos price is on the higher side of the spectrum. However, with the features that it brings, such as correlation analysis, it's worth the money. They should look at the pricing more clearly because it's a little on the higher side."
