The backup for a large amount of data is slow. When there's a large amount of data, sometimes the backup isn't completed in time. I have a 24 hour cycle, so it doesn't get completed in 24 hours with the large amount of data. With Veritas NetBackup, I can take 20 terabytes of backup in a day.

Consistent high ratings reflect user satisfaction and reliability
The effective features are file system backup and bare metal recovery. I find it effective because the recovery time when the system goes down is approximately 10 hours, so you can recover the system, and the recovery procedure is quite straightforward. The solution is on-premises. Deduplication is handled by their own product called Corestore, which is a software-based deduplication engine. The deduplication ratio is quite good, and the backup window reduces because of it. To use Quest NetVault Plus backup, my advice is that the product is quite simple; there's no need to access or log in to the backup server, just log in from any system in the same network, and the configuration part is also quite simple. I rate Quest NetVault Plus a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The command-line interface is good."
"The most valuable features are the Self-Service, and the ability to search the data."
"The cataloging is the best feature. It takes millions of frames for the backup. It's incremental, so it takes less time to complete."
"In terms of stability, I've found it to be very stable. I've walked into the server room when it was at 60 degrees Celcius, and it was still running fine."
"Overall IBM ProtectTIER is a great solution. It is easy to use."
"The solution is highly stable."
"Quest NetVault Plus has a high level of stability."
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."
"The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration."
"The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes."
"The backup and recovery capabilities of NetVault Plus are very important for maintaining my business."
"The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want."
"It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us."
"The interface is very user-friendly."

Cons

"IBM ProtectTIER could improve by being more user-friendly."
"Setting up the system to work with legacy equipment is a bit complex at times."
"The backup for a large amount of data is slow."
"I would like the possibility to back up the infrastructure and then replicate it upon on restart, without having to orchestrate the starting of the VM."
"The configuration wizards are still complex and hard to navigate. These should be easier to manage."
"There's no positive impact that NetVault Plus has brought to my company; I mean, there's no particular benefit I have seen from using it."
"There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."
"I would like to see the option of cloud-based management."
"Improvements should come, particularly in compatibility, backup performance, or better troubleshooting."
"The stability of the solution is poor."
"The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find."
"There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency."
"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"IBM ProtectTIER is an expensive solution."
"This solution is very expensive."
"The customer can decide how they want to purchase a license. However, the price of the solution is expensive."
"We have a capacity-based license, which is managed centrally for all the sites of my company."
"When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
"The tool is expensive."
"The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
