Restoration and infrastructure are extremely reliable
We are currently using Tivoli to backup 15 terabytes within our Oracle Database using a RMAN backup script. The RMAN's utility and restoration has been perfect, we have yet to experience any issues. It's very reliable The restoration and infrastructure are extremely reliable. We would like to…

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The restoration and infrastructure is extremely reliable."
"The most valuable feature is the internal recovery."
"I like the tool's backup."
"Veeam is highly scalable. In one scenario, we started with 2,000 users and scaled up to 24,000."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment."
"It's a pretty complete product."
"The technical support services have always been good."
"The solution is really easy and straightforward to use."
"The solution is easy to use and have good performance."

Cons

"We would like to have the opportunity to omit data from being backed up. For example, we have three virtual machines, each with three disks. When running the backup, it will automatically take each disk rather than allowing us to select what data we want backed."
"They could offer a hardware appliance as a comprehensive, full-stack solution."
"Its import and export processes for information and policies could be better."
"The improvement we would like to see is the option to scale Veeam Data up in smaller sections rather than large sections, which requires paying much more."
"Restoration takes about two to four hours with Veeam. Zerto can restore in about 10 seconds. That's the restoration speed I'm looking for now that we're dealing with ransomware."
"There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
"The interface and cluster environments could be improved in the future as presently they are using agent interface instead of user interface. Also, the backup for the Oracle WAC environment can be improved."
"They need to support more platforms."
"The remote SQL server has had multiple sizing issues within the logs and SQL backup space and sharing with other database apps."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's expensive, but it's worth for it due to the volume of critical information within our database. We are currently paying about $22,000 per year."
"Overall, I'm not happy with the pricing. The price could be improved. Every year, most vendors try to increase the price. It says it's being upgraded, but there's no improvement. The product stays the same, but the licensing costs are increasing."
"The price is reasonable."
"The cost should be adressed."
"When I did a tech refresh, we took out a subscription for the coming five years."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"We pay for a license to use this solution, and we recommend that our customers pay for a license and a renewal license."
"The licensing is the worst part of Veeam Backup Replication because for the more complex situations and it's quite difficult and complex. In particular, when mixing different requirements the licensing model is complex. For example, mixing a virtual machine backup and a file server backup in the same installation can be somewhat difficult and is expensive."
"The licensing fee depends on the licensing model we choose."

VMware SRM vs. Veeam vs. Zerto
Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
