Customization and robust network monitoring enhance operational efficiency
The most useful functions for monitoring purposes with IBM Tivoli NetCool OMNIbus are that it can be automated in many ways. Most importantly, it can communicate with many network components without requiring any medium connectors. You can directly integrate it if you have SNMP, which is great. The main benefits that IBM Tivoli NetCool OMNIbus provides are that it's an umbrella tool that can be placed on top of any existing monitoring system. You can monitor the entire network from this tool. The underlying interfaces can be many, but you can keep it as a single tool in IBM Tivoli NetCool OMNIbus and it can manage the load on its own. It negates the need to train the user base with other tools. I can provide this single tool and have hundreds of different tools underlying, but I only need to train one single user base, which is a great advantage.

Provides robust infrastructure monitoring with excellent integrations and alert predictions but needs improved AIOps capabilities
If we treat OpsRamp as an infrastructure monitoring tool, there are many positive aspects. However, when viewed as an AIOps tool, there are numerous potential additions. Currently, it performs infrastructure monitoring but has limited capability in application monitoring, which needs improvement. They are introducing observability as a feature where metrics, logs, and traces can be implemented, but this is currently in a primitive state that can grow over time. The platform is very stable, and the UI is excellent. However, regarding AIOps features, enhancements could be made to provide more value, such as dynamic thresholding and other capabilities that competitor tools have, such as LogicMonitor.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Very stable tool and good for all types of event integration and automation."
"Difficult to implement ( more resource and timing) but flexibility in implementation."
"This is an amazing product and you will fall in love with it."
"OMNIbus is valuable for its compatibility and performance, as I haven't encountered any performance issues."
"The monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature."
"The most useful functions for monitoring purposes with IBM Tivoli NetCool OMNIbus are that it can be automated in many ways, and most importantly, it can communicate with many network components without requiring any medium connectors."
"It is an easy-to-use solution."
"It is customer-centric. Customers can access the event list from their location or desktop and view the event. There is no need to go and connect to any other server and run events to have a view of all the events happening in the environment. We get a good response from customers about this feature and the main architecture of NetCool. Its processing is very good. Deduplication and correlation functionalities are good in this solution as compared to other solutions. A big advantage of NetCool is that it also supports multi-layered protocols. We can receive multiple events from different protocols like UDP, HTTP, and those events can be captured in NetCool."
"The most valuable feature of this solution in my experience, is that the available reporting is quite accurate."
"The main differences between OpsRamp and other solutions are the artificial intelligence and the ease of implementation and scaling."
"Most features work fine."
"The multi-tenant architecture capability of OpsRamp has helped me streamline and improve the processes within my organization."
"What I appreciate most about OpsRamp is that while many tools in the market provide standard monitoring, OpsRamp stands out as a differentiator by providing AIOps features, including correlation, deduplication, and automation where we can run RBA scripts on top of created alerts."
"Predictive analysis is a valued feature."
"The technical support is fantastic, and they are fast to respond."
"The most valuable feature of OpsRamp is the creation of the dashboards of the infrastructure for the CPU memory and SQL servers, and additionally URL monitoring through Selenium scripting and the availability dashboard is useful."

Cons

"The cost of the product is quite high. They should work to adjust their pricing models."
"Yes often problems appear after resolving a previous one."
"IBM support is a bust; Zenoss support is good."
"The solution has limitations in database integration as it cannot integrate with databases other than IBM DB2."
"They could enhance the visibility to give us a unified view of our entire IT infrastructure."
"Its integration could be better. They should provide an easier integration for all the monitoring stuff, and it will make things easier for us. Currently, there is a complexity in integrating it with a vendor application, and we have to use another tool to integrate it with a vendor application. To integrate some applications with NetCool, I need to install an IBM tool on top of it. It would be good if they can provide an API or any kind of interface that we can leverage while developing a new protocol interface or application. We should be able to use an API or interface with NetCool. Its GUI can also be better. As compared to other tools, it is not user friendly, and it is not easy to do stuff through GUI. Whenever we do anything on the GUI, it takes time. They need to focus on the GUI part, especially the dashboard. They should focus on how users can effectively drill down from one box to another. The visual appeal of the dashboard is as important as the data and functionality."
"Its technical support team takes longer to reply."
"There should be an easier-to-understand model, more of a flat-structured model rather than different tiers of licenses which complicates licensing."
"The user interface of this product requires some changes as it is not inclusively user-friendly. For example, the performance indicators are color-based , which means that they are confusing for anyone who is color blind."
"OpsRamp cannot be scaled for big and large company deployments."
"Currently, it performs infrastructure monitoring but has limited capability in application monitoring, which needs improvement."
"This is an emerging tool and they have tried to consolidate everything not always with success."
"We would like this solution to be developed into a full CMP tool, so that we are able to use a single product for all of our cloud management needs."
"The product also tends to release updates first and find out there is an issue later."
"Technical support should be improved, and I have noticed other areas in OpsRamp that could be improved or enhanced."
"What's lacking in OpsRamp is process automation, and if there is, I wish there could be more of it, other than just spikes, or it would be better if the alerts can be generated based on different matrices. That option is absent in OpsRamp at the moment, and it would be valuable if that could be provided in the solution, especially if there's any kind of security issue in the VM."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its license cost is a little bit more than other solutions. Our customers expect a standard market price that is comparative to other products. For each and every NetCool OMNIbus component, we have to purchase a separate license. These components are not free with the product."
"You have to have the right level of budget to afford this solution."
"It is a costly solution."
"I don't have any idea about the licensing cost for OpsRamp, but I just know that its pricing is based on the resource count for each tenant."
"There is an annual licensing fee to use OpsRamp."
"You pay it for a year and you'll have full access to the entire platform, not only for monitoring and alerting, you will have access to the entire platform, and whatever technology they develop will be made available to you."
"OpsRamp is a cost-effective solution."
