Economically priced, runs on all platforms, excellent cube building and query performance.
Economically priced, runs on all platforms, excellent cube building and query performance, and the development time to first report is very short even for an MDX novice.  The MDX IDE is fabulous. They respond quickly and responsibly to support requests.  New features in the reporting module…

Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Economically priced, runs on all platforms, excellent cube building and query performance, and the development time to first report is very short even for an MDX novice."
"The most valuable feature is the richness of its visualization and from a self-service standpoint, the ease of use."
"The solution is very good, loved it and the employees also love how quickly they can create a workbook and share it."
"The drill-down approach and interactivity in Tableau are highly effective."
"The feature which I value the most about Tableau is its ability to plot nonstandard charts/graphs, such as coxcomb, streamgraph, chord, sankey, and hexbin charts, and the map feature is cool, too."
"Compared to other products, visualization features are really good."
"It is definitely easy to use, it is intuitive, and more or less, everything can be done from the front end."
"Overall, in my short time using the product, I've been largely happy with the results."
"It is helping to make Makerbot a data-driven company."

Cons

"As with many products, the documentation is light in some areas."
"SAP BusinessObjects has some semantic layer designs that give the flexibility to do ad hoc reporting or dashboard designing. If that can be brought into Tableau, it would be great."
"Tableau has so many functions, so sometimes it's hard to find the right solution quickly. I have to search multiple menu bars to find the right command."
"Tableau's data modeling, mining, and AI library features need improvement."
"An advanced type of visualization is a bit tricky to create. It has something called a Calculated field, and that sometimes gets a bit difficult to use when you want to create an advanced type of visualization."
"Even Power BI is better than Tableau because there are many things that are good for the business."
"Connectivity seems to be a sticky point, but it's also a hard nut to crack at the level that I would love to see."
"Performance has issues when you get too many users."
"Real-time interactions need more attention."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Tableau is an expensive solution compared to Power BI."
"Its licensing cost should be improved."
"The licensing model of Tableau has changed since we initially purchased it three years ago and it is more complicated, and I have found it to be more expensive. They have lost market shares to Microsoft BI. My company will probably change solutions this year because of the increased pricing model."
"Tableau's licensing is pretty straightforward and simple."
"The cost of the solution should be improved."
"It is fairly expensive. I have no idea what they paid. We were on an enterprise license, so whatever it is they licensed at the enterprise level is what we paid."
"For data extraction and analysis, Tableau is better than any other tool I have used with the same pricing model."
"We are on an annual license which costs us $1,400 which is very expensive. Microsft BI is less expensive."
