Responsive support, fair pricing, and good performance
It's going very well. We are happy with its capabilities. The performance is good overall. We like that we can change the connection if you don't like the speed, for example, is limited. You can find the right one to get the performance you require. It is easy to set up. It is stable. Technical support has been helpful and responsive. Pricing is fair. It was not too expensive.

User management has simplified internal VPN access and now provides clear visibility and control
I do not use any role defining features because it is a really small organization, so it wasn't required, but it is there if needed. I have seen OpenVPN Access Server integrations such as LDAP, RADIUS, PAM, and SAML, but again, due to the size of the company, it wasn't necessary and we didn't have it inside the company. However, it was nice that it is already embedded inside. We haven't used much in terms of integrations with OpenVPN Access Server, so it's hard to say. We only used basic features there. My advice for others looking to implement OpenVPN Access Server is that it is at least worth trying if you need a fast and easy implementation solution without technical overhead and you just need VPN access, which is supported by all operating systems and mobile operating system vendors. It is definitely worth a try. OpenVPN Access Server was purchased directly from the website, not on the AWS marketplace or through a partner purchase. I would rate this product an overall eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is stable."
"OpenVPN Access Server provides remote secure access."
"The product has strong encryption and scalability features. It provides security for private network connections."
"It is open source and therefore affordable for small projects."
"Highly configurable. You can create your own custom client installer and can rebrand the server-side program."
"The setup is easy."
"If you're looking for a solid solution to establish VPN tunnels between sites, be sure to put OpenVPN on your list to check out."
"OpenVPN Access Server is very stable."
"It is much easier to scale and troubleshoot compared to regular Windows-based VPN solutions or PPTP daemon."

Cons

"The scalability could be a bit better."
"There are tasks that require logging onto the server to run commands, which is not intuitive through the UI."
"The high availability deployment is not very straightforward. They can make it simpler."
"If someone's key is not working, or if we had to remove someone's permission from it, or maybe an employee left the company and we had to take their key out, that seemed a little bit more complicated than it had to be."
"It is not scalable."
"It could include a configuration wizard so that users who do not follow instructions well can configure a connection."
"When there are too many concurrent users trying to connect at the same time, there may be a bit of a bottleneck."
"Regarding scalability, I find OpenVPN Access Server scalable with some caveats. However, sometimes your license disappears or gets wiped out when you scale the infrastructure, which can be quite annoying and requires reaching out to support to get set up again."
"The upgrade path from older versions was more difficult than we wanted to tackle, so we ran an older version of the software for longer than I wanted. Patching, updating, and migrating to newer versions was a problem for us. That said, we were on a rather old version that I inherited yet it worked rock solid."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The product's pricing is good value, definitely. It is one of the best features, I would say. Evaluate the product before seeing which type of licensing is good for you. I think there is a good evaluation method available for OpenVPN, so you can just evaluate if it meets your needs. Then go forward with the right licensing policy."
"It is an open-source solution, so we don't pay for anything."
"The solution is free of cost."
"Open VPN Access Server is open-source and free of charge."
"OpenVPN is a free and open-source solution."
"It is free, you buy support."
"I would say the product's pricing is a good value. I would recommend to other companies to implement it. I've seen other software, in tandem with the service, to be very expensive."
"The price point is fantastic since it is free."
