Integration capabilities excel and support for varied platforms enhances communication across backend systems
We mainly use REST APIs, and the solution's integration capabilities are excellent. It allows communication with a number of back-end providers and data consolidation. The flexibility to develop APIs for various platforms, from front-end applications to ATM machines, is valuable. Code changes and migration are straightforward, and it supports identity and access management integration.

Provides robust security for financial transactions and protects the ERP database from direct exposure
My main feedback is about the account management. I feel they should connect with clients more frequently, beyond just selling the product. They should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products. My main suggestion is focused solely on the account management approach, specifically fostering closer and more proactive client relationships. So, the pricing could also be bit improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The Portal API helps us with deployments. It also helps to have a catalog of everything. The replication is also a critical feature for us. It helps to have a more robust architecture and makes our systems are highly available."
"It is fairly stable for the Gateway side."
"The out-of-the-box security features are useful. Right now, you can just right-click and drag and drop the assertions with the rate limit. That, as well as the x-amount surge protection, is built in so we can bring that in."
"The most valuable feature of Layer7 API Management is that their policy is really easy to develop and it is flexible."
"When I have used technical support they helped me a lot. Sometimes they took a long time to respond because we had very complex issues that we asked them for help with, but I think it is a very good service."
"As an organization grow, you can use CA API Management for authentication purposes through the CA API Gateway. It allows for multiple identity providers with different Active Directories."
"For developers to be able to come, sign up, or find APIs."
"Scalability: API Gateway is easily scalable horizontally and managed easily."
"The most valuable features for us are security and centralization."
"It is very secure, easy to manage, and easy to configure. It is a web-based API. Moreover, we get direct support from Oracle guys."
"The security, the authentication, and the publishing qualities are great."
"The initial setup isn't overly difficult."

Cons

"The interface should be improved."
"The cloud-native architecture of the product needs improvement."
"The implementation of CA API Management was complex. It is a complicated solution. You have to know so much IT knowledge to do the implementation."
"From the last version, they have added more dashboard support, but there is still a lot they need to improve. In terms of monitoring, it's almost all covered. The interface can be improved, though."
"The security protocols in CA's product, for financial services, weren't as good as those in API Connect."
"The Portal is not stable."
"One area where it certainly needs to improve is the way it allocates requests, in terms of rate limiting. Also, there is no native Kafka connectivity."
"Layer7 API Management could be improved in its logging and alert mechanisms."
"From an administration and developer point of view, the user interface and user experience are not great."
"Oracle should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products."
"Before gaining experience with the product, I found that it was not simple to use and things took longer to do than I had anticipated."
"We'd like it if they could reduce the cost without sacrificing on features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are various licensing models for Layer7 API Management. We have to buy additional licenses to get new versions."
"Keep in mind the non-product licensing, e.g., if you opt not to use the embedded SQL."
"It was very high at that time. We are a Broadcom CA partner, and we got it only for testing purposes. We didn't pay anything for it."
"The price of Layer7 API Management is too high and should be reduced. However, it is a good solution in the market."
"Licenses are required to operate the product, but I don't know much about the validity periods attached to it."
"It's my manager who takes care of the pricing. But I keep on hearing that it's a little pricey, it's on the higher side. That is what he says."
"It depends on your use case of course, how much you want to go with that, because it can get pricey and depends on the size of your company."
"This solution is a bit more expensive than competitors."
"Oracle is not a cheap solution and it is not affordable for all of our clients in Portugal."
