Integration capabilities excel and support for varied platforms enhances communication across backend systems
We mainly use REST APIs, and the solution's integration capabilities are excellent. It allows communication with a number of back-end providers and data consolidation. The flexibility to develop APIs for various platforms, from front-end applications to ATM machines, is valuable. Code changes and migration are straightforward, and it supports identity and access management integration.

My main feedback is about the account management. I feel they should connect with clients more frequently, beyond just selling the product. They should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products. My main suggestion is focused solely on the account management approach, specifically fostering closer and more proactive client relationships. So, the pricing could also be bit improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There are a couple aspects of performance. One is just speed and uptime, and it's stellar in that regard. The other is, how much effort is it to put it in place in the first place, and then how much effort is it to keep it operational. That's where its real strength is. I'm able to do things quickly and easily that I couldn't do before."
"CA is better than Apigee because CA allows you to make changes and is a little generous in terms of where to go with the project."
"Layer7 API Management is most valued for its drag-and-drop functionalities, the available policy options, and the excellent security features."
"Overall, this is a good product."
"Finally, based on all the features, like security, we decided that the CA product is the best suited to the needs of Motorola's business."
"From a security standpoint, it works great. It is the right solution for us. It's lightweight, a software-appliance configuration which was easy to deploy and configure."
"There are a few assertions which are built-in for threat protection. I have used them for vulnerabilities, like for DDoS attacks, XML schema validation, IP restriction, and for cross-domain."
"CA is the first in the market from the time they acquired Layer 7."
"The product has been very easy to use."
"It is very secure, easy to manage, and easy to configure. It is a web-based API. Moreover, we get direct support from Oracle guys."
"The security, the authentication, and the publishing qualities are great."
"The most valuable features for us are security and centralization."
"It has helped us to better organize, control and monitor the APIs across the solution landscape in the enterprise."
"We've found it to be very stable."
"The initial setup isn't overly difficult."

Cons

"Some of the things that we see as room of improvement are how do you integrate with other systems out there."
"It's not stable. I want to publish new APIs with a socket, but it’s not stable enough for this."
"The initial setup was complex and difficult mainly because we didn’t have heavy Linux support guys."
"One item that we’ve had discussions – and they’ve fixed some of it – you had to buy extra products, specifically the CA Mobile API Gateway, to get certain types of token support even though you didn’t need that product for anything else."
"Some users say that the API lacks some features and is lagging behind the competition although that has not been my personal experience."
"The license model and the cost of licensing can be improved, especially given that we are in a stable operational mode."
"Because of our experience with our cloud-hosting provider's image requirements versus what CA provided them, I think an area of improvement would be additional form factors for virtualization."
"Layer7 API Management could have a live API creator feature, so my team can easily create APIs. Right now, the product doesn't have that feature."
"From an administration and developer point of view, the user interface and user experience are not great."
"Before gaining experience with the product, I found that it was not simple to use and things took longer to do than I had anticipated."
"Oracle needs to improve on access to technical documentation."
"We'd like it if they could reduce the cost without sacrificing on features."
"The cost of the solution is very high. It's not very cheap."
"Oracle should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products."
"Although it is working great for us at the moment, we don't enjoy its user-interface. The UI is based on an old approach and needs an overhaul to modernize the UI and user interaction."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It depends on your use case of course, how much you want to go with that, because it can get pricey and depends on the size of your company."
"Purchase 4.0 now and wait until they flush out the 4.1 problems."
"I feel that it is costly for medium-sized companies."
"APIs can be developed to provide security. We can show them in one single pane of glass, such as the CA API Management API Developer Portal. It is there that we can provide the monetization for their APIs and what is happening on third-party applications, like Paytm or BookMyShow."
"CA has great pricing for gateways, so negotiate with your sales team."
"Our customers found the product’s cost a little higher. They are looking for open-source solutions."
"It was very high at that time. We are a Broadcom CA partner, and we got it only for testing purposes. We didn't pay anything for it."
"CA API Management has a licensing path. If you want more features, it requires more licenses and more installation time."
"Oracle is not a cheap solution and it is not affordable for all of our clients in Portugal."
