Integration capabilities excel and support for varied platforms enhances communication across backend systems
We mainly use REST APIs, and the solution's integration capabilities are excellent. It allows communication with a number of back-end providers and data consolidation. The flexibility to develop APIs for various platforms, from front-end applications to ATM machines, is valuable. Code changes and migration are straightforward, and it supports identity and access management integration.

Provides robust security for financial transactions and protects the ERP database from direct exposure
My main feedback is about the account management. I feel they should connect with clients more frequently, beyond just selling the product. They should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products. My main suggestion is focused solely on the account management approach, specifically fostering closer and more proactive client relationships. So, the pricing could also be bit improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Layer7 API Management's availability on an on-premises deployment model, actually decreases the production time if its users have any issues at the server level."
"There are many security policies within this solution that help to prevent attacks. We are also able to implement TLS to allow us to look at the application from the backend. There are workflows inside of the gate that help us a lot to implement customers and improve user experience. Our customers are also able to move from a customized creative view to taking advantage of AI bot solutions."
"It impresses me as a product because it never goes down. It always does what it is supposed to do."
"For developers to be able to come, sign up, or find APIs."
"The product supports more than just HTTP protocols; it also caters to JMS and FTP protocols."
"Technical support is excellent, and I would rate them as ten."
"Almost all security features are available out-of-the-box and can be deployed rapidly."
"It has its own language, which make it possible to design and implement the complete flow using existing services and databases, and to create and aggregate fine-and coarse-grained APIs."
"The security, the authentication, and the publishing qualities are great."
"The most valuable features for us are security and centralization."
"The initial setup isn't overly difficult."
"It is very secure, easy to manage, and easy to configure. It is a web-based API. Moreover, we get direct support from Oracle guys."

Cons

"The product needs to keep up with newer trends even though customers might not be requesting it yet."
"One day, where we can have a microservices gateway and we will not need the classic gateway at all, that is what we want to see."
"Increase tools for manipulation of JSON messages."
"There could be more integration options included in the product."
"As the number of instances increases, its complexity of installation increases if you do not use the OVA."
"The Portal lacks maturity. Since the move from Portal 3.x to 4.x, a lot of features were removed. It is slowly coming back. I can see a lot of changes are done in the "background" to decouple components and make it more flexible. Those changes are just not getting to the UI side quick enough."
"CA double up portal is a pain. It is something that we are struggling with right now."
"Some problems with response time."
"From an administration and developer point of view, the user interface and user experience are not great."
"Oracle should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products."
"Before gaining experience with the product, I found that it was not simple to use and things took longer to do than I had anticipated."
"We'd like it if they could reduce the cost without sacrificing on features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's my manager who takes care of the pricing. But I keep on hearing that it's a little pricey, it's on the higher side. That is what he says."
"CA has great pricing for gateways, so negotiate with your sales team."
"It was very high at that time. We are a Broadcom CA partner, and we got it only for testing purposes. We didn't pay anything for it."
"For what we are after, the pricing is okay. It is competitive."
"I think it's competitive. It's not that expensive when you compare CA with the Oracle product."
"There are some costs for maintenance that we are charged, but that seems fair because we get the support."
"CA API Management has a licensing path. If you want more features, it requires more licenses and more installation time."
"If the CA pricing for API management would be a little lower, they would be able to cover a broader market."
"Oracle is not a cheap solution and it is not affordable for all of our clients in Portugal."
