Integration capabilities excel and support for varied platforms enhances communication across backend systems
We mainly use REST APIs, and the solution's integration capabilities are excellent. It allows communication with a number of back-end providers and data consolidation. The flexibility to develop APIs for various platforms, from front-end applications to ATM machines, is valuable. Code changes and migration are straightforward, and it supports identity and access management integration.

Provides robust security for financial transactions and protects the ERP database from direct exposure
My main feedback is about the account management. I feel they should connect with clients more frequently, beyond just selling the product. They should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products. My main suggestion is focused solely on the account management approach, specifically fostering closer and more proactive client relationships. So, the pricing could also be bit improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Almost all security features are available out-of-the-box and can be deployed rapidly."
"The Mobile API Gateway is also great."
"One of the main ways that CA API Management has improved our company is that we do not require a lot of people to work in developing new security code when they are programming for the APIs."
"The most important features of Layer7 API Management are the basic security functionality and validation checks, and it integrates well."
"It's a very good product to use to initially set up single sign-on for web services authentication."
"It's absolutely the best security product in the market from a gateway perspective."
"Thanks to this product, we have successfully secured SOAP and REST APIs and exposed them to international/domestic partners using the standard industry protocols."
"The initial setup process is easy and flexible."
"The product has been very easy to use."
"It is very secure, easy to manage, and easy to configure. It is a web-based API. Moreover, we get direct support from Oracle guys."
"The most valuable features for us are security and centralization."
"It has helped us to better organize, control and monitor the APIs across the solution landscape in the enterprise."
"The initial setup isn't overly difficult."
"We've found it to be very stable."
"The security, the authentication, and the publishing qualities are great."

Cons

"I would like for the new release to allow us to speed up code generation. The integration with CICD could also be more seamless."
"The Portal lacks maturity. Since the move from Portal 3.x to 4.x, a lot of features were removed. It is slowly coming back. I can see a lot of changes are done in the "background" to decouple components and make it more flexible. Those changes are just not getting to the UI side quick enough."
"What I find other people saying is that the product portal for API development lacks some features; people who need that functionality are not impressed, they say it is lagging behind the competition."
"They should incorporate deeper monitoring features into the solution to make the offering more complete. Doing so would help to showcase traffic patterns and usage to better engage customers and partners proactively. It would also help with API management and capacity planning."
"Patching/upgrading is a manual process and should be automated."
"I think we have used tech support but the response has been so-so. They need more knowledgeable people."
"The developer portal needs to fully supported SOAP services (including WSDL publication with security), it would certainly push adoption for us."
"The only area I'd say there could be some improvement is some of the documentation perhaps, some of the release notes are not the best."
"Before gaining experience with the product, I found that it was not simple to use and things took longer to do than I had anticipated."
"The cost of the solution is very high. It's not very cheap."
"We'd like it if they could reduce the cost without sacrificing on features."
"From an administration and developer point of view, the user interface and user experience are not great."
"Oracle needs to improve on access to technical documentation."
"Oracle should actively seek feedback and tailor the approach to client needs. It shouldn't always be about pushing additional products."
"Although it is working great for us at the moment, we don't enjoy its user-interface. The UI is based on an old approach and needs an overhaul to modernize the UI and user interaction."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If the CA pricing for API management would be a little lower, they would be able to cover a broader market."
"It has a reasonable pricing model by instance."
"It was very high at that time. We are a Broadcom CA partner, and we got it only for testing purposes. We didn't pay anything for it."
"If you do a TCO of more than five years, then you will see a big jump in costs for some vendors."
"There are some costs for maintenance that we are charged, but that seems fair because we get the support."
"I do not have experience with the pricing or licensing of the product."
"It is a pricey product, although not extremely overpriced compared to competitors in the market."
"Do not buy piecemeal."
"Oracle is not a cheap solution and it is not affordable for all of our clients in Portugal."
