Group events allow everyone to see live updates
The ability to have a box storage feature supporting each community page is the most valuable feature, i.e., similar to what we already know. The allowance to get others to contribute to documents and make comments as all are being tracked is another important feature Group events are being…

SharePoint is a powerful platform, but there are a few areas where I think it could be improved, such as user experience. For new users, the interface and navigation can feel quite complex, specifically when working with multiple sites and document libraries. Another improvement would be search functionalities. While it is good sometimes, it does not always return the most relevant result unless a document is very well-structured and tagged. Also, initial setup and customizations can be time-consuming and may require technical expertise, specifically when configuring workflows or permissions. From a modern development perspective, tighter and more seamless integrations with tools including Power Automate and better support for custom backend integrations through APIs could make it more efficient. Overall, simplifying usability and enhancing search and integration capability would make SharePoint even stronger. One additional area I would appreciate improvement would be performance and responsiveness, especially when dealing with a large document library. Sometimes loading or navigating through large datasets can feel quite slow. Another aspect is permissions management. While it is very powerful, it can become complex to manage at scale, specifically when there are multiple levels of access across teams and projects. Improving developer experience would also be beneficial. Making customization, API integrations, and extensions more straightforward would help teams, especially backend developers, leverage SharePoint more efficiently.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"MangoApps is my go-to recommendation for sole proprietorships, startups, SMBs, or even established companies who need a one-stop-shop for communication, filesharing, knowledge base management, and project management."
"The ability to have a box storage feature supporting each community page is the most valuable feature, i.e., similar to what we already know."
"It has an easy to distribute administration capability, and can also scale to meet a large number of future needs."
"Yes, especially reducing the print paper and having a very quick response, and reducing the time between department and people."
"Feedback workflows ensure we don't miss someone when documents need reviewing and approval workflows make sure the right people are approving it, especially when there are new or temporary staff involved."
"Its configuration management ability is critical for document-based systems."
"SharePoint integrates well with the Team Foundation Server and provides collaboration features for team members on a TFS Team Project."
"The workflow feature is valuable because it enables us to cascade responsibilities, cyclically keeps tabs on work and to what extent it has progressed, and shows where it is stuck, which is really very helpful."
"The product provides flexibility in collaboration."
"The ability to take Excel files and make them dynamic SharePoint lists with instant reporting capabilities has been a major benefit."

Cons

"It doesn't have the most professional sounding name... but then again, I don't know that the name of a solution should be a factor in your decision making."
"The ability to work on the documents themselves, without having to download and re-upload is needed."
"The initial setup was somewhat complex."
"We'd like to be able to upload from MS Excel to deploy tasks and use drop-down lists to collect further information."
"It has worked very well for me. It seems like they've improved everything. I don't have any cons about it as such, but I don't think they have a talk-to-text, speech-to-text, or speech-to-type. That would be cool for accessibility."
"Too many versions being released in a short time period. Too much time being devoted to migration planning."
"Customer Service: It's poor, and if you want Microsoft support on SharePoint you have to hire Microsoft Consulting Services."
"As this is a Microsoft product, it can be difficult to obtain direct support."
"Improve the user-friendliness."
"The pricing and licensing is one of the most crucial parts of using Microsoft SharePoint."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The pricing is competitive."
"As usual, Microsoft’s licensing structures don’t really seem to fit the needs of their products. This leads to always paying for a project you will never use fully or always be adding to."
"The solution's pricing is relatively expensive because it's bundled with other products."
"The licensing model for SharePoint Online is based on per user, and it is monthly. The price of the solution overall is good."
"The pricing works for us."
"The platform has medium pricing."
"SharePoint is included with our Microsoft license."
"The replacement costs for it are cheaper if you use only SharePoint."

Jive vs Sharepoint vs Drupal Commons
