Identity has become our central gatekeeper and has provided secure single sign-on for all users
Microsoft Entra ID can improve by focusing more on new passwordless methods and becoming a primary adopter. One feature we would like to see is the ability to have security questions for password resets. I know the current capability is phasing out, so we do not have an alternative method yet. Customers who already use security questions require a smoother transition for that capability to be available. My experience with the deployment has had some challenges, particularly around the Microsoft MFA campaigns. The hardest part is moving users from a different MFA provider to the Microsoft MFA provider, as it ultimately depends on user activity. In large enterprises with numerous users across various geographies, this transition takes time. If there are ways to exert more control around that process, it would improve the situation.

Offers robustness and ease of use
The product improves our organization's daily healthcare tasks since the use of the tool reduces a lot of support calls, and its users remember many passports that keep on changing. Writing down the passwords somewhere would compromise the security of the system. In our company, the product streamlines access to critical applications and makes it more secure. The management of the system becomes easy with the product. With the product, you can also decide on the strength of the policy you need for your environment. It also helps in the area of authentication credentials. With the product in place, users need to remember fewer passwords, which makes an organization's environment much more secure. The product has improved productivity in the sense that users are now able to manage the tool on their own without having to wait for IT support. IT teams also have to handle fewer support calls and can focus on more value addition in other areas. I recommend the product to others who plan to use it. I suggest that it is always better to use the product's SSO capabilities since it provides security. With SSO capabilities, if you can use multi-factor authentication, you can add a second layer of security to make your system safer and free from attacks. The product's integration capabilities with existing healthcare infrastructure are good. The secure access provided by the product has helped all the applications in our company where security is required. I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Azure is the leading market solution because of its history, features, and maturity."
"After implementing Conditional Access policies in Microsoft Entra ID, we observed significant improvements in our security metrics, with unauthorized access attempts reduced by approximately 60 to 80% due to strict policy enforcement, MFA adoption rate increasing to nearly 100% for critical applications, and the ability to automatically block or challenge a higher number of risky sign-ins detected by the system while also seeing a significant decrease in security incidents related to identity compromise after implementation."
"Entra ID is our directory that registers all users, guest users, and even labs. It's integrated with Microsoft technologies like Authenticator, SSO, and MFA, streamlining operations and creating a seamless environment."
"The access control aspect of the authentication is the solution's most valuable aspect."
"We're satisfied with the product in general."
"This is the kind of solution that I feel you cannot run an organization without using."
"This product has improved our overall security posture."
"The solution improved our and our clients' security; end users are more confident knowing that their information is confidential."
"The most valuable features of the solution are its ease of use and its robustness."
"Security is the best feature of Microsoft Azure Sentinel. It has its own base security. Our customers like that the security is available in Azure."
"The badge reader add-on that allows configuration where a doctor or nurse only has to enter the primary password once per shift is very helpful."
"Security is the best feature of Microsoft Azure Sentinel."

Cons

"The cost of licensing always has room for improvement."
"Compatibility features for legacy system integration with new features will be challenging at times."
"Regarding the stability and reliability of Microsoft Entra ID, we have some issues regarding a team. We have experienced downtime, crashes, or performance issues."
"Some systems do not integrate very well with Azure AD. We thought of going for Okta, but later on we were able to achieve it, but not the way we wanted. It was not as easy as we thought it would be. The integration was not very seamless."
"However, there are still a lot of features that the Cloud Provisioning Agent lacks."
"From time to time it takes a little bit of time to replicate, with some of the applications—something like five to 10 minutes."
"ESAE management, especially the admin tools, could be improved. It should be built in by the vendor, and I shouldn't have to add patches or updates to connect to my domain directly."
"The areas where Microsoft Entra ID could improve include the fact that it is a de facto standard but not a real standard, leading to strong vendor lock-in, which sometimes makes us avoid Microsoft Entra ID for certain purposes."
"The shortcomings in the stability need improvement."
"We had some feedback from customers who have said it was a confusing product. The product is confusing to use for the end-user. For example, they do not know how to migrate the Azure Sentinel, but others have liked the product that has started working on it."
"There were error messages and application actions when the connection to the appliance was disrupted."
"We had some feedback from customers who have said it was a confusing product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The process for buying licenses from Microsoft is somewhat messy and really hard to do. We have to talk to someone because it's hard to find out how many licenses we need. If I'm applying for 2,000 users, how many Windows licenses do we need? They could also charge less for support."
"The E5 plan we are using contains the premium plans for Azure Active Directory. We are not paying only for the Azure Active Directory Premium licenses. We have it already included within our E5 plan."
"The licensing costs are yearly. There is a standard fee per user."
"I am not involved in the pricing or licensing, so I can't speak to that."
"Everything needs to be considered for the requirements and if it is within the budget, then you can come up with a solution, whether it is SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS."
"The P1 version costs $6 per user per month."
"Licensing fees are paid monthly."
"Entra ID is not too bad, but Microsoft licensing generally is insane. Most customers normally buy a bundle license with Microsoft 365, E3, or E5. Out of our 2,000 customers, for 99.9% of our customers, the Entra ID license that they are getting through the part of that would be sufficient. There are some more advanced ones that give you a bit more functionality, but we probably have not had a customer for that. We do not even internally use that ourselves. When you buy the Entra ID license on its own, it is probably three or four pounds. You just get it included in the license."
"Users need to pay either annually or on a multi-year basis towards the licensing costs of the product."

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that going through and being able to use these things is always part of delivering an M365 bundle, so I don't think the experience is great ...

Microsoft Entra ID can be improved by open-sourcing it. You already have Windows Subsystem for Linux, which is open-source Linux in Microsoft. One major shift for Microsoft would be using the commo...
