Data lineage and quality checks have streamlined team-wide collaboration and business context
The biggest friction point or frustration I have encountered with Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance is cost-wise it is acceptable, but sometimes unexpected errors will occur, though this happens very rarely. There are features I wish Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance had that it does not provide today. Enterprise-level lineage is one such feature. As of now, if Microsoft were to provide this tool for free when you buy Microsoft Fabric, I feel that would be better. This would also result in lower license costs. I do not have any changes I would make to Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance at this time.

Integrated controls have reduced insider risk and now protect sensitive data across our workforce
One standout feature about Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is the tight integration with Insider Risk Management and Defender XDR, as it gives much better context during investigations instead of treating DLP as an isolated alerting tool. We also use endpoint DLP heavily to control USB, copy, print, clipboard, and browser upload activity, which has been very effective for remote workforce security. The best features Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention offers include real-time policy enforcement, endpoint DLP, and deep integration with Microsoft 365 plus Defender XDR. We also heavily rely on sensitive information type detection, adaptive policy tips, and insider risk integration to investigate suspicious user behavior with proper context. Another standout feature is the ability to control USB copy, browser uploads, print clipboards, and cloud sharing actions directly from endpoint policies. The integration with Microsoft Defender 365 and Defender XDR helps our team in day-to-day operations because DLP alerts are automatically correlated with endpoint identity, email, and user activity telemetry, which helps the SOC investigate incidents much faster from a single workflow. The sensitive information type detection makes a difference compared to other tools we have used because it is more effective than many legacy DLP tools. It understands context, exact data patterns, document labeling, and Microsoft 365 native content, reducing false positives while improving detection accuracy. Another strong feature of Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is auto-labeling and policy inheritance with Microsoft's Information Protection, which helps maintain protection even after files are shared or moved across workloads. We also value the user coaching or policy tip capability because it educates users in real time instead of only blocking actions, which reduces repeated DLP violations significantly.

Pros

"Customer support is excellent."
"The time it saves is very useful."
"The features I appreciate the most in Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance include the ability to build cases, give them dates, and find them based on the notes that I left behind."
"Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance helps with extra collaboration and ensures communication is within the framework."
"Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance has impacted my organization positively; it is a good tool that provides an end-to-end business view for a particular organization."
"If we can prevent information from going out, eventually, when a regulator is asking about our security measures, we can show what we've been doing."
"My favorite feature about Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is actually quite simple: there's a handful of things that you do, you create a new batch, it'll give you a unique ID, you copy that unique ID, it's a URL, and then you can put that into a script that we wrote so we just paste that in our script and then it uses that URL to upload all of those mailboxes, and then we can use that to import."
"Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention prevents users from sharing sensitive information outside the organization based on the configurations that we've implemented."
"Insider risk management and data retention are beneficial."
"It's secure and can be integrated with an existing Forcepoint DLP setup."
"I like the sensitivity labels and data security posture management for AI."
"The auto-labeling feature is definitely the most valuable feature, as it goes in and labels the documents for you in different repositories, covering the Outlook and Exchange repositories along with SharePoint and OneDrive, which is really helpful in those areas."
"I rate Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention's stability a ten out of ten."

Cons

"The product should incorporate more automation with the help of AI."
"The biggest friction point or frustration I have encountered with Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance is cost-wise it is acceptable, but sometimes unexpected errors will occur, though this happens very rarely."
"Monitoring and compliance for web applications could be improved."
"Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance can be improved by having more tutorials available for those who aren't used to using this platform."
"All the security operations are better defined in Forcepoint, while in Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention, you will have to use a specific workflow and then an application to release blocked emails."
"The stability and reliability of Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is great. Besides the weird timeframe where it takes a couple hours for a rule to sync and 24 hours to appear for someone, I don't really have an issue."
"Technical support is awful."
"There is a lot of ambiguity when you are setting up labels, such as sensitive information labels."
"I would like Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention to be on the source code or SQL databases. It is difficult to do classification and labeling when you have a third-party source code or a third-party Oracle database. It is seamless when it comes to Microsoft documents but is not so with third-party source codes. Microsoft needs to work on it a little bit more."
"Endpoint Data Loss Prevention needs to be improved as it is not up to expectations."
"The scalability, in terms of the portal, could be more user-friendly. Sometimes I have faced difficulties in identifying the options."
"There is no AIP for Linux systems. That's a setback. Another thing it's lacking is libraries to work with Python. It has libraries for C# and C++, for example, but not for Python and, these days, Python is very useful."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Though I am not a specialist, the tool is quite expensive."
"I am satisfied with the tool's pricing."
"It is a part of our Microsoft licensing. We pay for a yearly renewal. Its price is reasonable for the size of the organization we are. It is fairly competitive, and you get what you pay for. We have an E5 license, and a part of understanding the E5 license is to see what all you get with it. If you really look at it from that standpoint, you get a lot of value. You have Defender and all its security features in there as well. Their licensing is fairly flexible. They have different programs. We've seen ones where you could pay for up to three to five years in advance. There is also a monthly pay-as-you-go type of deal, but we're doing a yearly renewal and fixing the budget."
"We are using the E3 license for Microsoft 365 with the E5 compliance license add-on."
"Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is part of a bundle and is not sold as a standalone product."
"The product has the best price-to-performance ratio."
"The solution’s pricing is reasonable."
"If one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the price as one out of ten."
