Protects sensitive data across devices and helps address client compliance needs proactively
The reporting in Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is a little easier than most Microsoft portals. I understand the licensing cost, especially if you're a Business Premium or in the SMB world, and a lot of clients run with a Business Premium. That comes with data loss prevention in a manual process, whereas E5 gives automation. Microsoft has said, 'Okay, here's your Microsoft 365 E5 compliance add-on that can go on the Business Premium.' So Business Premium users can get the data loss prevention features of E5, which is fantastic. That was the big point that they were missing, and I'm glad that they actually have an add-on now that makes it possible. So truly, I don't think there's a downside. Maybe more reporting, but that's it.

Secure email workflows have reduced manual steps and now protect sensitive data effortlessly
The best features Virtru Data Protection Gateway offers are email encryption, application email encryption, email DLP, and email gateway. Email encryption has made the biggest impact for my team because it adds an extra layer of security. Email encryption allows us to encrypt emails without installing or exchanging keys with the recipient; we can have the sender manually encrypt the email, or based on keywords in the email, we suggest the user encrypt the email, or we auto-encrypt the email with ease. I also appreciate the DLP feature because it helps us gain DLP capabilities in a simple and straightforward way. Virtru Data Protection Gateway has positively impacted my organization by providing better security. Better security has meant ensuring customer sensitive information is well protected and secured for my organization; we have noticed fewer incidents, improved compliance, and it saves approximately 50 hours a month by enabling us to eliminate manual work and reduce several daily workflow steps for our representatives.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention's responses are faster. Its installation is also reliable. The security score helps with the security part."
"The policy customization feature is very useful, and we have successfully used the auto policy configuration."
"Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention prevents users from sharing sensitive information outside the organization based on the configurations that we've implemented."
"If we can prevent information from going out, eventually, when a regulator is asking about our security measures, we can show what we've been doing."
"My favorite feature about Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is actually quite simple: there's a handful of things that you do, you create a new batch, it'll give you a unique ID, you copy that unique ID, it's a URL, and then you can put that into a script that we wrote so we just paste that in our script and then it uses that URL to upload all of those mailboxes, and then we can use that to import."
"We can triage based on quick and sometimes constant alerts."
"I like the sensitivity labels and data security posture management for AI."
"Microsoft Purview's classification and policy controls impact users' productivity within my organization very positively, as it does not get in the way of their working."
"Virtru Data Protection Gateway has positively impacted my organization by providing better security; better security has meant ensuring customer sensitive information is well protected and secured for my organization, we have noticed fewer incidents, improved compliance, and it saves approximately 50 hours a month by enabling us to eliminate manual work and reduce several daily workflow steps for our representatives."
"I truly value this platform because it provides and safeguards my data, our data, and our client's data, making it an effortless email encryption solution with a seamless Gmail integration tool."

Cons

"There is no AIP for Linux systems. That's a setback. Another thing it's lacking is libraries to work with Python. It has libraries for C# and C++, for example, but not for Python and, these days, Python is very useful."
"Because it's an academic institution, we got really excited about the level of granularity we could implement, but that granularity overwhelmed our users."
"Improving Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention would involve recognizing that the whole AI path we are all on is going to help, given the massive amount of data we handle; even if there are true positives, implementing a degree of severity ranking is essential."
"The tool's user interface and document fingerprinting have been very poor for my customers because uploading files manually can be problematic."
"I rate the overall solution 3 out of 10."
"There is a need for improvements, particularly in ensuring that file-based recognition is more reliable and comprehensive."
"The platform can be challenging to navigate and has the potential for improvement."
"It could cover more solutions and technologies."
"One area in which I believe Virtru Data Protection Gateway should improve is the native Google Docs file encryption."
"One area that Virtru Data Protection Gateway should improve is that I sometimes experience problems when using a different browser or when I have to switch computers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I am satisfied with the tool's pricing."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is part of a bundle and is not sold as a standalone product."
"You get the solution in a bundle if you get the E5 suite."
"It's a little bit pricey compared to competitors, but it's not too high."
"If one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the price as one out of ten."
"We are using the E3 license for Microsoft 365 with the E5 compliance license add-on."
"It is a part of our Microsoft licensing. We pay for a yearly renewal. Its price is reasonable for the size of the organization we are. It is fairly competitive, and you get what you pay for. We have an E5 license, and a part of understanding the E5 license is to see what all you get with it. If you really look at it from that standpoint, you get a lot of value. You have Defender and all its security features in there as well. Their licensing is fairly flexible. They have different programs. We've seen ones where you could pay for up to three to five years in advance. There is also a monthly pay-as-you-go type of deal, but we're doing a yearly renewal and fixing the budget."
