The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Positive impacts seen with improved data security and reliable support
I have six months of experience with the product, and as a consultant, the use cases for NetApp AltaVault mainly stand out for me. Regarding the deduplication feature in the product, I am interested in whether clients are using it. There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Provides connectivity to a lot of different cloud storage solutions."
"The initial setup is very easy. It's not overly complex."
"Client-side encryption minimizes worries about data being captured on the back-end."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its online backup capacity because you don't have to do an entire backup again and again, it just does whatever you type in, you type a, it goes a, you type b, it goes b. It doesn't take an entire site up again and again. So that incremental and bit by bit backup is important, it is a nice feature here."
"Supports peer-to-peer backup using Minio, which has allowed us to easily pre-seed and maintain an off-site backup within driving distance, making tactical recovery of accidental file deletions easy."
"I was mainly concerned with cloud backups, OneDrive backups, consumer OneDrive, business OneDrive, Google backups, and SharePoint backups. The solution did a good job of the backup."
"The best feature is that it's very user-friendly to do scheduled backups and version maintenance."
"It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution."
"We are getting rid of our tape libraries, so this is an alternative to that, we don't have to have 100s and 1000s of tapes, and we are going into the cloud, so this helps us go into the cloud while providing better security for backup data."
"It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it."
"We're doing AWS S3 with Glacier with cloud-based backup and the integration is good, as it works with Veeam and Commvault."
"Considering the disaster recovery scenarios, I want to assess NetApp AltaVault's ability to minimize the recovery time objective (RTO) and what positive impact I have seen from the product so far."
"Our restore window has been cut by 10 times, from having to pull back from tape - I'd definitely recommend it."
"The solution can be used for all Office 365 applications."
"It took an entire silo of complexity and simplified it to a device in the cloud."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."

Cons

"The interface could use some updating."
"The graphics are looking a bit old and should be updated."
"The solution needs a better graphical user interface. It's a graphical user interface that is very old-school right now. They could give it a little more modern feel."
"As for what can be improved, some reports could be simplified so that you know how much backup you have done and what your backup details are. That report is available but it is very tough to get. I would like to know "today I have just uploaded 35 MB, tomorrow I have loaded 10 MB so my trend of backup is increasing.""
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"There are some things that we don't like about it. That is why I was exploring alternatives in a hyper-scale environment. That is why I was checking IT Central Station."
"We could basically use just a more concise visual dashboard reporting on the status of the various machines."
"Maybe implement an easier interface for basic users. For example, a set-up wizard with all the commonly used features as default."
"We've had a lot of issues, crashed the service console a lot, service crashes."
"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"Also, we were actually able to discover a bug in the product that they're still working on. It's a bug with the Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol with older Windows operating systems."
"The initial installation is difficult for my clients who have it on both on-premises and on cloud."
"The initial setup phase of the tool was difficult."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"I would like to see more web support."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
"We have a very good return on investment."
"Its pricing needs improvement."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
"The solution is expensive."
"Pricing is reasonable although can be quite a large upfront cost."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"It's quite cost-effective."
"The price is a bit high."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
