Reliable transactions have supported secure payments, refunds, and bookings at high volumes
Regarding MySQL improvements, a pain point is horizontal scalability. MySQL scales very well vertically and can support read replicas, but as a system grows significantly, sharding and distributed data management can become complex compared to databases that are designed to scale horizontally from the beginning. This is one of the areas where I think MySQL should work more. Another area is handling very large analytic workloads. MySQL is excellent for transactional systems, but for large-scale analytics or reporting, specialized analytic databases may sometimes be a better fit. Apart from that, one area is performance troubleshooting. As the database grows, diagnosing things such as slow queries, lock contention, and deadlocks becomes complex.

A stable and cost-effective tool that is fully compatible with Oracle
We are a solution provider and Tibero is one of the database products that we implement for our customers. All applications for Oracle work with Tibero and don't need to be customized The most valuable feature is compatibility with the Oracle database. If you have knowledge of Oracle then you…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"MySQL now supports replication (master-master or master-slave) of our DB to support our company's multiple geo-locations and PoPs."
"Like other databases, it has a rich set of functions, such as stored procedures and its own procedural language, which is akin to Oracle SQL. It also has trigger and cursor commands you would expect with a good database language."
"It is a stable, reliable, and powerful solution that is quite suited for small to medium organizations and/or projects."
"It is a very stable solution. I deployed the product six years ago, and it still works fine."
"However, the ability to scale horizontally is much better than other vendors."
"My organization has experienced positive impacts from MySQL, as it provides exceptional capabilities."
"MySQL is compatible with most of the platforms."
"For us, MySQL is the choice for all of our projects."
"The most valuable feature is compatibility with the Oracle database."
"Tibero is a relational database management system, which supports disaster recovery, active cluster, active storage, etc."
"It is incredibly fast, much faster than Oracle in terms of compiling and processing speeds, very reliable and secure, never crashes or gets overloaded, the true data never gets falsified or corrupted, it is very easy to port your projects over, and it is considerably cheaper than any other software on the market."
"A huge benefit of Tibero is its licensing costs are low."
"Tibero has the mission to deliver reliable performance with a lower ownership cost."
"Tibero is very easy to setup and maintain."
"Migration from Oracle to Tibero is very easy and it took us about ten minutes."
"Tibero uses Hyper-Threading architecture, which is incredibly fast."

Cons

"When I run into issues, I really have to research how to fix them."
"When we have a lot of data it takes a longer time. The transaction gets stuck in a queue and if we try to stop that particular transaction, it won't abort until all the selected records have been processed."
"MySQL is missing some RDBMS features like stored procedures, foreign keys, transaction, rollback, and subselect, and it also does not support triggers."
"The data masking functionality should be improved as well as the native encryption functionality in the MySQL database."
"Customer Service: 4/10 Technical Support: 7/10"
"Integration is a key feature in need of improvement."
"Also, security measures could always be improved, and the clustering process could be enhanced as well."
"The GUI could improve to make MySQL better."
"The knowledge base is quite small and should be expanded."
"In PL/SQL code, there is a scope of improvement. We expect more PL/SQL packages should be included in the next release."
"There could be more user friendly FAQs online and included in the software."
"Manual installation is a bit tricky, but one can get used to it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"MySQL Enterprise Support is not cheap, though might still be cheaper than Oracle or SQL Server. They may not have local support depending on where you’re based, but there are many smaller agencies out there that will readily provide support. You’ll need to spend some time looking around."
"The solution’s pricing depends on customer requirements. A license is not required for the community edition."
"I don't pay for a license."
"MySQL is released under an open-source license, so you have nothing to pay to use it."
"There is a licensing cost because we are going for a proprietary product. There are some other versions for which there is no licensing cost."
"It's cheaper than other solutions."
"I think that MySQL is a premium product."
"It is open-source."
"The price of Tibero is cheaper than that of Oracle."
"The overall costs are very low compared to Oracle."
