Has strengthened data protection across departments and supported continuous monitoring
In future updates of Symantec Data Loss Prevention, I would like to see improvements based on the many attacks happening around the world. They can improve their product and the features mainly to focus on how we can prevent that data within the organization, over the cloud, whatever it is, as that is important.

"The feature that was most valuable was that we could restore one mailbox and we could do different backups for different databases."
"Data Protector is very good at automation; from the time of the backup, verification, and copy to tape, it is very good, and I don't need to touch it because it will do it by itself."
"I've used the product for a long time and am very familiar with all its features."
"The solution is easy to use."
"I cannot recommend a better solution for enterprise-wide data security and retention."
"The granularity of brick-level restore functionality is very valuable."
"The most valuable feature for us is the ability to backup our database, and restore it if necessary."
"The product's deployment phase was easy."
"The most valuable feature is the end point encryption and the solution provides good data loss prevention."
"What we like about Symantec Data Loss Prevention is that it's a very good product. We never faced any problems with its performance. It has very good performance. There was this RAM issue, but it was an internal issue which we've sorted out. Apart from the RAM issue, there are no other issues with Symantec Data Loss Prevention."
"It has good options for policy findings. You can do granular policy enhancements with multiple options. And the SMB blocking is a very good feature."
"It is a scalable solution...The solution's technical support was good."
"This is a good solution for us and I would recommend it."
"The exfiltration capabilities are great. You can put all of these rules in the product to detect the patterns and text."

Cons

"We faced some certification issues after we upgraded to version 10.2."
"We have become frequent customers of the Data Protector technical support team because Data Protector does fairly regularly break."
"Technical support is very poor and I would rate it as 1/10. The response from L1 is very slow and there is no handover when the engineer finishes the shift."
"The problem with HPE Data Protector is when it goes wrong, it's very hard to fathom why it went wrong."
"This tool is also missing some configurations and functionalities that I want."
"I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement."
"Unfortunately, Data Protector is not exactly the tool for that task."
"The GUI needs to be easier to administrate. Also, it should have better access to more materials to help understanding the product (like the difference between INCR and INCR1, etc. and how it works)."
"We lost a POC despite installing 2,000 endpoints because Symantec Data Loss Prevention is more expensive compared to other solutions."
"The Symantec DLP solution is very complex, and installation requires many components."

"Symantec doesn't necessarily catch things that are happening in the DLP features such as someone attempting credit card fraud."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They have two types of licensing, one is for storage capacity and the other is client licensing. The capacity licensing here is a bit expensive."

"The solution requires paying for a license."
"Our licensing is on a capacity basis."
