Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Has enabled seamless VM management and automated failover while support response needs improvement
For support issues, they help with the issue, but it takes a very long time. The reason is that they engage a very initial resource and then escalate to another level, and during these level escalations, our time is wasted. They do not understand the severity of the issue. They go through step-by-step and then go to the upper level. This may be their SOP, but we require instant support and instant resolution of the problem, so here VMware Live Recovery is lacking. They follow their SOP, but they initially engage very low-level personnel who are not able to answer or resolve the issue, so they escalate or take a very long time to resolve the issue. The main issue is to improve the approach of resolving solutions. I may not be able to suggest new features because in these recent months, I have not been very close to it as we are exploring different solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I see that the seamless synchronization feature is helpful for your organization or your customers' organization."
"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"The thing I like the most about SMR is the reduced cost of management."
"We feel the ability to move virtual machines while they are still running to be the most valuable feature."
"VMware SRM replicates the VM from one site to another, and it helps us orchestrate the powering of VMs and DR when the DC goes down."
"My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."
"Automated recovery is one good feature, SRM also offers simplified management. It has a centralized interface for configuring, testing, and executing disaster recovery plans across multiple sites. This means management from a single point, even for many sites."
"Fast recovery time Ease of use"
"VMware SRM's most valuable features are its convenience and its use of stretched clusters."
"The disaster recovery has been good; in the case of a disaster, the product is very simple, we have security and lower downtime, and it's very reliable."

Cons

"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."
"One thing I see as a drawback in Precisely Assure MIMIX is that deployment is quite complex and it takes time."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"Technical support needs improvement, they are not very responsive."
"The price, in general, could be lower."
"I personally will not continue using the VMware SRM solution."
"I would like to see the database come built-in to the product."
"An improvement for SRM would be better interface compatibility with other products."
"For cloud-based solutions, the cost seems quite pricey, so we stick to on-premises deployment."
"VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery could improve by enhancing the network bandwidth from the storage."
"The technical support is not quick enough to respond when a user tries to contact them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of the product is too high."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight to nine out of ten."
"The price of VMware SRM depends on how many VMs the customer has to move. There is a difference between the standard and enterprise license. I'm presenting the standard license to my customers because the total of VMs is not more than 50. The customer needs only the standard license and the cost is very effective for him."
"The cost of SRM is on par with market rates."
"VMware SRM is expensive when compared to Veeam and makes Veeam look cheaper. For support, some additional payments need to be made over the licensing costs of the solution."
"The level of licensing required for this solution is dependent on the server instances in use."
"It is about $3,000 a year for the 25 pack. The package gives you the ability to protect up to 25 virtual machines."
"The price could be lower, in general. My clients pay for an annual license."
"VMware SRM is a little bit pricey."
