VMware Live Recovery and Veeam Data Platform are prominent players in the disaster recovery and data protection market. VMware Live Recovery is heavily integrated into VMware environments, offering a robust solution for those within this ecosystem. In contrast, Veeam Data Platform excels with its simplicity and broader infrastructure support, making it attractive for diverse setups.
Features: VMware Live Recovery offers seamless integration with VMware environments, advanced disaster recovery planning, and automated DR workflows. Its instant VMware integration and compatibility with storage vendors enhance its functionality. Veeam Data Platform shines with efficient backup capabilities, a single-file restoration option, and comprehensive protection across physical and virtual environments. Its speed and ease of use contribute to its widespread appeal.
Room for Improvement: VMware Live Recovery could improve its database management, simplify its configuration, and enhance storage integration. The complexity in licensing models may hinder scalability. Veeam Data Platform may need to improve its flexibility in complex scenarios, simplify licensing for larger setups, and expand automation and third-party integrations. VMware might focus on environment agnosticism and speed, while Veeam could enhance physical server support.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: VMware Live Recovery typically requires on-premises deployment and experiences with customer service can vary, depending on the support staff's knowledge. Veeam Data Platform is noted for its ease of installation and robust customer support that leads to higher satisfaction rates, with deployment in varied environments like hybrid and public clouds.
Pricing and ROI: VMware Live Recovery is considered pricey, heavily influenced by the number of VMs and additional infrastructure, with costs rapidly accumulating beyond 75 VMs. Despite high costs, it delivers significant ROI over time. Veeam Data Platform offers competitive pricing, positioning itself as a cost-effective alternative. Its flexible licensing models and reduced operational expenses offer a satisfactory ROI for resource-conscious enterprises.
Most cases are handled perfectly.
I would rate their technical support a 10 out of 10.
The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high.
They are knowledgeable.
Our team has dedicated personnel for support who engage with the supporting teams.
The technical support from VMware is very good and operates based on a service level.
It involves acquiring additional licenses as needed.
I would rate the scalability part of Veeam Data Platform 10 out of 10 because we have the ability to scale out the product at any time with scale-out backup repositories and can add licenses as needed.
In order to scale Veeam Data Platform, we have to pay a lot more money.
There are no issues with stability in Veeam Data Platform.
I can say the stability of Veeam Data Platform is almost 8 to 9, as the cluster functionality was not there in earlier platforms such as version 12, but is provided in version 13.
For our test labs, dev labs, and production, it is very stable.
The improvement we would like to see is the option to scale Veeam Data up in smaller sections rather than large sections, which requires paying much more.
Reducing it by 20% would make it more accessible to a broader range of customers.
OpenStack is something Veeam Data Platform doesn't support, and they haven't indicated that they will support it in the future.
It's important for the cost to be justified based on the features used in production.
I would like to see improved integration services with other solutions, such as SIEM management or security monitoring.
They follow their SOP, but they initially engage very low-level personnel who are not able to answer or resolve the issue, so they escalate or take a very long time to resolve the issue.
I don't consider the price expensive given its importance.
A reduction of 20% in the current cost would make the solution more attractive to clients.
Veeam Data Platform is more expensive than OpenStack because we pay for it in US dollars, while we pay for OpenStack in Egyptian pounds.
Previously, when acquiring a license for Ethiopian drug supply chains, the price was significantly high, especially after Broadcom joined VMware.
For cloud-based solutions, the cost seems quite pricey, so we stick to on-premises deployment.
We mostly prefer to recommend this to customers due to ease of use, abundant features, and support.
The platform is user-friendly, comprehensive, and compatible with numerous market solutions, including virtualization and bare metal servers.
The most important aspect of this platform is data security with immutable data in the storage.
Veeam Data Platform is valuable for its stability and the ability to easily contact support for assistance.
It is used for data replication between data centers and allows for quick response in times of failure, ensuring data availability.
If I talk about vCenter and the auto failover of the VMs, such as live migration, that is a very cool feature that we require in our environment because we have different data centers, and if some of the servers fail, they automatically failover and move the VM from one side to another.
The capability and the functionality of the features are very helpful for us.
