Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats

The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Scales well and technical support is good, but it is expensive

The majority of our customers nowadays are looking forward to having cloud-based control models. However, some of our clients have to keep their data in their own data center in order to satisfy compliance. In summary, compared to the other products that are available in India, technical support and scalability are good. Overall, it is a very good product. That said, there are other tools that meet the feature requirements and are more cost-effective. I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Manages vulnerabilities effectively over time but needs improvement in web coverage and dashboard flexibility

Most of the dynamic asset tagging we use is manual, not dynamic. To manage the assets, we employed the manual approach because we have a limitation regarding the license, so we don't use the dynamic approach much. I don't know how the configuration assessment has assisted with meeting compliance standards. The product that we use is the on-premise solution where we configure assets and dynamically scan them. However, we use the default policies more, the template, so Rapid7 InsightVM on-premise version is not that effective in the web-related systems. However, it is best on the OS to identify and discover the OS-related vulnerabilities, more of open ports and the discovery of vulnerable ports or services. It would be better to improve Rapid7 InsightVM by including or working better to add web-related templates because it's not that effective in regard to web. I don't know if they may have a separate product regarding the web, but for the on-premise type, they are not strong in this area. I would prefer to see web-related templates in addition to improving the dashboard-related things because the dashboard has been constant for a very long time. It would be better to see various kinds of, perhaps a flexible type of dashboard. If it's not customizable at all, I would want to see the risk and asset over time with more flexibility. The current dashboard is not flexible in this regard; I have to dig down every day, so they should work on this as well, in addition to the web.
