Scales well and technical support is good, but it is expensive
The majority of our customers nowadays are looking forward to having cloud-based control models. However, some of our clients have to keep their data in their own data center in order to satisfy compliance. In summary, compared to the other products that are available in India, technical support and scalability are good. Overall, it is a very good product. That said, there are other tools that meet the feature requirements and are more cost-effective. I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Offers robust compliance features but needs improved automation in remediation
The automation capability remediation needs improvement. The current process requires manually telling IT teams to remediate vulnerabilities, and then they update the status of these vulnerabilities in the platform. This basic feature that Rapid7 calls an automated remediation process is actually manual. We can update the status of vulnerabilities in the Rapid7 InsightVM platform and collectively see how many vulnerabilities we have identified and how many are remediated by our IT team. More automation in the remediation feature is a basic demand from many customers. The remediation part and vulnerability identification of network devices or rigid devices are not currently supported by Rapid7 InsightVM. More integration and automation are the two areas Rapid7 needs to improve in their product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The interface is simple to use."
"The most valuable feature is the site scanning, where we can provide a complete subnet and what it is we need to scan on those devices."
"I have been in contact with technical support and they are not bad."
"InsightVM's most valuable feature is risk scoring, a formula based on different vectors like the ease of exploitation and the availability of the machine."
"Rapid7 InsightVM is an on-premise type product that has helped us manage potential vulnerabilities effectively."
"The connectivity provided by Rapid7 InsightVM is valuable."
"Rapid7 have a good distribution network with good support and market presence."
"The most important aspect of the solution is that it rarely gives false positives, especially compared to other products. It provides very clear reports for our IT teams to look at."
"This solution's most useful feature is that it is entirely a single-page application."

Cons

"There are not many partners for this product in India, which makes the OEM very difficult to reach."
"I think the improvement in the tool should be to provide a better update to users because sometimes the information within the cloud and the scanner are not synchronized very fast."
"The on-premise updates could improve from Rapid7 InsightVM."
"Their customer support should be improved, and the effectiveness of scans also needs to be improved."
"InsightVM is getting a little stale and is in danger of falling behind its competitors."
"I’d like to see Rapid7 InsightVM improve by adding a knowledge base similar to what Qualys offers. This would help us easily check and search for vulnerabilities using Rapid7 IDs associated with CVs or CVSS. From a features perspective, everything was fine at the time, and the security features of Rapid7 InsightVM were effective."
"The team needs to improve the speed and focus on the new bandwidth feed. Sometimes, it takes a while to scan, especially with new updates."
"There are certain limitations because of the product being used on a hybrid model. Rapid7 InsightVM doesn't offer a solution purely in the cloud."
"Rapid7 InsightVM should improve its threat intelligence."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to similar products by other vendors, this is an expensive one."
"It is pretty expensive. It depends on what you consider pricey, however, if you only look at vulnerability management solutions, such as within VM or VMDR, there are, I suppose the prices are almost the same. But I believe you will discover that for yourself."
"This solution is expensive, but it's fine for us as we have an open budget for security solutions. Protection and having the system secured is more important."
"We have an annual license to use Rapid7 InsightVM and if we want to extend it, we will possibly choose more than one year."
"I do not have experience with the pricing of the solution."
"It is less expensive compared to other competitors."
"The solution is a bit more reasonably priced than other products."
"Pricing is reasonable because we pay according to asset usage. We can define our assets and sites according to our preference."
"The product is cheaper than the other similar tools available in the market."
