Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Centralized threat hunting has improved alert accuracy and simplifies incident investigations
I would say there are two areas for improvement: the reporting dashboard that provides insights or reports weekly or monthly lacks detailed information about how logs are being ingested. While the details are there, they could be more concise and easier to understand for any level of authority. The second area is alert tuning; compared to Microsoft Sentinel, Rapid7 InsightIDR provides fewer alerts with more static alert functionality and lacks dynamic alerting exposures. There could be improvements to learn from past alert activities for more dynamic alert configurations. These two areas are the main areas for improvement; everything else is good.

Centralized visibility has improved SOC investigations and supports faster, more accurate incident response
I think ReliaQuest GreyMatter could be improved further in a few areas. First, I want to see more flexibility in dashboard customization so analysts can configure views based on their roles and investigation requirements. Second, improving alert correlation accuracy and reducing overall false positive rates would help analysts focus on genuine possible threats rather than spending time validating repetitive low-priority alerts or false positives. Third, more detailed investigation timelines, better reporting capabilities, and simpler investigation integration configuration would make the platform more effective. I suggest continuously improving automation workflows to reduce repetitive manual tasks while allowing analysts to maintain control over critical response actions. Overall, I think these enhancements can make the platform more user-friendly and improve the efficiency of SOC operations. One additional improvement would be enhancing the investigation experience by providing more detailed context directly within the alert. For example, having a clear incident timeline, related alerts, historical activity, and threat intelligence information available in one place would make investigations easier. I believe these improvements would make day-to-day SOC operations smoother and allow analysts to focus more on proactive threat hunting and other complex investigations.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its ability to react to cyber data attacks is awesome."
"The interface is easy to use and it is more up to date than our previous solution."
"But overall, when we speak about security and protection, they are one of the top providers."
"They have a new GUI which is just fantastic."
"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"Previously, we had to install endpoint protection per machine and then scan and update, but Cortex XDR basically does that centrally and predictably, so we have more time to do day-to-day work rather than spend time chasing those endpoints."
"I recommend this solution to others because it is easy to manage, reliable, and overall good to use."
"The protection offered by this product is good, as is the endpoint reporting."
"The solution provides satisfying native integration features"
"The product works well. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"They can subscribe to Rapid7 because it is more valuable and delivers a greater return on investment."
"I like that it's a cloud-based solution."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is budget-friendly and has a good market position because not everybody can afford to go for LogRhythm or Splunk or QRadar."
"The log aggregation and storage provided by InsightIDR has shown no issues with scalability; aggregating over one hundred millions events daily."
"Previously, when something happened, such as when a hacker was attacking one of our customers, we were always behind, or we did not know that we were hacked until the ransomware started, but with the Rapid7 solution, at every step, we could online see what a person was doing, and we could prevent ransomware."
"The platform offers unlimited storage and agent-based solutions."
"One of the best features that ReliaQuest GreyMatter offers is the ability to bring together security tools and data that support threat investigation, detection, and response."
"ReliaQuest GreyMatter saves around 60% of time or resources."
"ReliaQuest GreyMatter has helped us to reduce security incidents by 89%, which is a significant amount of incidents we have seen."

Cons

"Managing the product should be easier."
"The solution should force customers to integrate with network traffic to see the full benefits of XDR."
"The solution could improve by providing better integration with their own products and others."
"The deployment is pretty hard."
"It is not very strong in terms of endpoint management. It should have additional features like DLP, encryption, or advanced device control. Currently, Cortex is good in terms of the security of the endpoints, but it is not as good as other vendors in terms of the management of the endpoint."
"The connection to the internet has not performed as expected."
"For Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks, if I had to point out improvements, I would say the UI is still somewhat difficult for beginners."
"A potential area of improvement for Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is the cost."
"The dashboard is an area that could be simplified. For management, it should be clear and the files should be there."
"Rapid7 doesn't integrate well with all our security tools from various vendors, so we plan to switch. Many of our solutions work with Rapid7, but some do not. We are already searching for a replacement already."
"The integration capabilities of the solution have certain shortcomings where improvements are required."
"InsightIDR's integration with other solutions could be improved. Also, I'd like more control from the portal over what's happening on the endpoint side. For example, when I see an attack on an endpoint, I want to be able to stop it from the portal."
"Tenable Nessus is easier to deal with. It's more efficient and accurate. InsightIDR is heavier than Tenable in terms of performance and scanning. Rapid7 would be much easier to use if it had a network connector like Tenable. Tenable's connector allows continuous monitoring over the B caps."
"The solution needs improvement in threat intelligence. Increasing the depth of intelligence to help users understand more about threats is a possibility. My suggestion is to expand access to other websites or resources."
"One thing that springs to mind is easier API integration with ITSMs."
"One thing that springs to mind is easier API integration with ITSMs. We are evaluating a new ITSM and I would like to have InsightIDR create a ticket when an attack is identified, and the ticket would be closed in InsightIDR when the ITSM resolution is completed. This would take out the "single point of failure" we currently have, if the email recipient is somehow absent, in recording the risk appetite for the incident and the actions taken to mitigate or not."
"Areas that have room for improvement include user interface and integration."
"ReliaQuest GreyMatter is stable to a certain extent, but there is still some room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is quite an expensive solution."
"It has a higher cost than other solutions, like CrowdStrike or Microsoft’s EDR tools, but it reduces the cost of our operations because it’s a new generation antivirus tool."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"The price of the solution is high for the license and in general."
"Its pricing is kind of in line with its competitors and everybody else out there."
"If one wishes to work with another team or large number of users at a future point, he must purchase a license for them."
"Every customer has to pay for a license because it doesn't work with what you get from a managed services provider."
"The price of the product is not very economical."
"The pricing of the solution depends on the user. But there is a yearly licensing cost."
"The pricing is good, and it is not very expensive."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR's pricing is reasonable but we have challenges with the Minimum Order Quantity. It is not reasonable for customers who have less than one hundred devices. If they can reduce Minimum Order Quantity, it is good. You have to pay around 5000-6000 dollars per year for the product. The pricing includes maintenance and support costs."
"The pricing and licensing are competitive."
"It is on a yearly basis. For our own company, for about 250 users, it was 16,000 euros a year."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is a cheaply priced product. On a scale of one to ten, where one is very expensive, and ten is very cheap, I rate the product's price at seven or eight."
"Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
"It is more reasonably priced than other vendors."
