Discontinuation of Hardware and limited firewalling capabilities
Overall, I would rate the solution a four out of ten. For UTM, I will not suggest Seqrite. But for EPS and antivirus, it is good. Cost-wise also and some features. The features wise also, it is good. And support is also good. We can get support on WhatsApp. So support-wise, it is also good.

Integrated firewall and VPN have provided cost savings and strengthened customer security
The needed improvements for Sophos UTM include that the GUI could be a little more high-resolution-aware because it's still stuck in the small, low-resolution admin days, and those are long over. I choose a rating of nine out of ten for Sophos UTM because, as I mentioned, the graphical user interface is stuck in the past, and some things here and there are not implemented to the full, such as the reverse gateway thing, reverse proxy, and web application firewall. If you want to really implement some rules that are a little bit more difficult, Sophos always recommends getting the dedicated WAF, or web application firewall, but I would prefer to have more features on the web application firewall in the firewall itself because it would make more sense. Other than that, it's a very smooth experience, and I really appreciate it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has an MDM solution."
"The implementation with the AWS environment was good."
"The most valuable feature of Sophos UTM is reporting, it is flexible. I can monitor the end user's devices, even when they are not on my network. It has good drill-down capabilities."
"Sophos UTM has a good user interface and granular security controls."
"The most valuable feature is the price. I've been requesting prices all over these years between different solutions like Fortinet, Palo Alto, and Check Point and Sophos has been the cheapest and the best of all of them that I have tried. I have been working with Fortinet, it's a fact that the price is surprisingly better."
"The solution is scalable."
"The cost of the solution is very reasonable."
"The solution can scale."
"Installing Sophos UTM is straightforward. The deployment itself doesn't take long, but you have to spend some time planning and waiting for the hardware to be delivered."

Cons

"This solution is not accurate. Sometimes, the switches got hung. So sometimes, whatever policies we have deployed were not working properly."
"There can be a delay when it comes to reaching out to technical support."
"Sophos UTM sometimes falls short in high-availability environments. They used to launch firmware that didn't work very well in a high-availability environment."
"Reporting: We have had to work manually in many of our reports."
"We'd like to see them offer their services on mobile devices like tablets. I'm not sure if that's an option or not."
"An area for improvement in Sophos UTM is load balancing because my company cannot use it currently. If Sophos could release a new configuration for the load balancing feature to work for my company, that would be great."
"We need a better VPN client for the customers."
"The reporting system needs to allow for customizations because many reports do not include details that we expect."
"The functionality is not granular enough to monitor or identify issues effectively."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There was an up-front charge of around $70,000, to purchase the hub and license. Beyond the initial cost, licenses are charged for annually, but they are good value for the service we receive."
"Sophos UTM's pricing is on the cheaper side."
"This product is free for home users. The more expensive products have better performance."
"Pricing for Sophos UTM is OK. Here in Egypt, many companies use the solution because of its price and features. My company pays the Sophos UTM license fee yearly."
"The licensing model is very straightforward, it's a bit pricey, but for what you get, it's well worth it."
"The appliance should be purchased and there is a fee for the license."
"Go to a vendor and let them assess your needs so you can get a right-sized device."
"I rate the product's price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
