Easy to use and mange with reasonable pricing
The main feature is a specific file type. If we want some PDF files just to back up, the prefix is very easy, and we do everything in Veeam backup. It's straightforward to set up. It's stable. The solution is easy to use. You can centrally manage it. It's potentially free to use.

Unified backups have protected virtual machines and applications and optimize storage efficiency
Regarding automated disaster recovery, we have not used Veritas NetBackup automated disaster recovery because according to the RFP terms and conditions, we are not supposed to have automated failover or failback, as we are a government entity and cannot violate the rules of the RFP. My feedback about granular recovery in Veritas NetBackup is that we have been doing verifications of the backed-up data to restore from point to point and time to time, focusing on file level or database level. When it comes to integration with cloud services, we have not started because we are a government entity and are not allowed to store any data in the cloud at this time. From security concerns regarding what I would improve about Veritas NetBackup, I think you need to look into this because we found only one encryption option available, which is not that very strong. When I initiate a backup from my laptop or server to the appliance or the tape media using Veritas NetBackup, the encryption channels are not strong, and there are not many options available. Whatever is there is by default and not changeable. We cannot modify any encryption facilities, and security is a big concern nowadays, so you need to look into that. Regarding the functionality part of Veritas NetBackup, I think this encryption feature should be stronger and integrated from point to point, not just at specific levels. When I initiate a backup, all the communication channels involved should be encrypted until it reaches the endpoint, meaning from client to server, server to client, and client device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution is very stable, there's no question about it."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It was very easy. Deployment only took about one hour with configuration and everything considered."
"This solution is very compatible with the virtual environment, application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"The most valuable feature is application availability, which allows us to monitor all agents and accounts."
"A full-featured option for managing virtual machines with an instant recovery feature."
"My favorite feature in this solution is instant recovery, where you can recover a virtual machine in less than a minute."
"The solution has a replication feature that allows us to do the VR, and it's very good, and the user interface is good and provides a lot of information."
"It is a stable solution."
"It is a good solution. It covers most of the applications."
"Great deduplication feature."
"The backup and restore functions are very valuable aspects of the product."
"I like NetBackup's anomaly detection and Linux storage features."
"The most valuable feature is its stability."
"Veritas NetBackup is a scalable, enterprise-level solution used for the organization and its features are good."
"I think the support is fine. We haven't had issues with it."
"It supports multiple, heterogeneous platforms."

Cons

"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."
"The stability of this solution needs to be improved."
"The support could be improved a lot, as it is currently non-existent."
"The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."
"The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting."
"Some users might think the interface could be improved."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"Scalability is a challenge because it is only available in a fixed capacity of, at least 48 terabytes, which makes it difficult to manage."
"Veritas could simplify the firmware recovery in terms of the deployed. The process shouldn't be dependent on the agents. It should be completely agentless."
"The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing."
"I think the main area that could be improved is the pricing, to make it more competitive."
"This product would be improved with the inclusion of a Sandbox feature like Veeam Sandbox."
"We would like the Java console to be updated. They need to redo the console so that it is no longer on Java. It's outdated."
"I would like to have support enabled for cloud backups."
"The security and performance could improve with Veritas NetBackup. The security could be improved by protecting the data from attackers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
"We have an annual license."
"The pricing is good."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"It is less expensive than one of its variants."
"Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
"The licensing fees are expensive."
"It was on a yearly basis. During the annual review, when we asked them about our licensing, they couldn't explain it. For example, we had reduced by a factor of 40%, but our license only dropped by 5%. We would then ask Veritas people if we've reduced this much and shut down these servers, why has our license changed so less? They were never able to give us a straight answer. They weren't able to say, "Well, you're using this, and this is more expensive." In many cases, as we reduced our capacity and what we were using with Veritas NetBackup, our licensing actually went up, and they were often unable to explain why."
"Veritas NetBackup is quite expensive and licensing costs are fixed."
"Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup is high, it should be reduced."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
"Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than Cohesity and Rubrik, but it is comparable in price to Commvault, IBM, and Dell."
