Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

The solution can be used for DR testing and allows running an infinite number of full backups
When we consider the backup model of other products like Veeam, their incremental backup just adds to their first full backup. With Veritas System Recovery, we have the option to run an infinite number of full backups according to our requirements. With my cloud version of Veritas System Recovery, I can have a full backup every month, which is not possible with any other vendors. Other vendors will claim that the original copy is strong enough, but the customers have to ensure that bugs won't cause any problems in the future. However, with Veritas System Recovery, you can run a full backup this month and again run a full backup on the first or thirtieth day of the next month.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Enables us to restore the VM when the needs arises and for disaster recovery."
"We are able to restore VM very fast, with 0 downtime."
"This is easy to use with a simple restore feature."
"The user interface is good and it is very easy to use."
"We were looking for a solution for a long time to replicate a very old database running on a VM, and finally, using this product, we are able to do it."
"Veeam Is very useful for most environments and can scale up in most environments - such as Amazon or Azure."
"We managed to restore all of the VMs from Veeam and disaster recovery was executed as expected within our SLA."
"The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
"You can back up the whole image, not just files and folders, but the image from the server, and you can restore the whole image."
"It has a user-friendly interface and configures and integrates nicely with other products."
"With Veritas System Recovery, we have the option to run an infinite number of full backups according to our requirements."
"The best thing about this product is that it's a unified solution and doesn't require the installation of any other solution, whether it's in a virtual environment, or on-prem."
"It has a user-friendly interface."
"The solution has helped reduce my company's cost by around 50 to 60 percent."
"You can back up the whole image."
"The solution captures the system state, so when we restore the system, it will be restored to the state it was in at the time of the backup."

Cons

"Sometimes Veeam is not that effective when it comes to legacy environments."
"No issues as such with stability and scalability, but from the deployment perspective, we expect it to support a hybrid environment - multiple-edition deployment within one single Veeam Backup Server instance."
"The initial setup was not straightforward or easy. It was difficult and complex."
"Veeam ONE should improve its UI."
"Besides Wintel environments, it would be good to have DR/HA for Unix/Linux platforms."
"A backup and replication solution should be able to back up a system and do recovery very fast. Even though Veeam Backup & Replication is able to meet most of our needs, it would be better if they can make it faster for backup and restore."
"The SME that helped us with the implementation would probably have more insight because he used it way more than we have. We just use it for making sure that our backups are done daily, and the replications are being performed between sites. We haven't had any issues at all with it other than the fact that there is a slight process to acquire additional licenses if we want to expand our number of hosts. That's because it is based on the number of cores and threads that are used."
"The scalability of the product in large organizations is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"We faced issues with recovery and restoration."
"Veritas System Recovery’s pricing and local support need some improvement."
"It needs an easier interface."
"The tool's deployment could be easier. The deployment itself isn't the issue; rather, the problem lies in configuring policies and testing everything before it's ready. We invest a significant amount of time in preparing for various scenarios. However, we often encounter situations where changes have occurred since our initial preparations. This can render the automation less valuable."
"Veritas System Recovery Manager offers some manager solutions, but there is room for improvement."
"Lacks the ability to protect the database snapshot."
"For most organizations these days, their main concern is to protect their database and I think Veritas could make some improvements in that regard."
"The reliability is sometimes lacking."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Veeam Backup Replication has a lot of free features. We have a mixture of the paid versions as well as the community version. They are really helpful to us."
"Room for improvement is actually more in the way of licensing. The really good and useful features are in the Enterprise plus edition, and that one is really expensive."
"Although our license includes support, we have only really used the support when we were using Veeam for Active Directory. The rest of the time, we find Veeam easy enough to use without paying extra support fees."
"Veeam Backup and Replication is a cost-effective solution"
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication has been increasing their price and my customers are asking why. They have CPU-based licenses and a Universal License, the prices should be reduced."
"The cost is based on the number of core servers."
"I understand from management that the DR component is too expensive."
"If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive."
"My company has to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There is no need to pay any additional fees apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
