Has enabled seamless VM management and automated failover while support response needs improvement
For support issues, they help with the issue, but it takes a very long time. The reason is that they engage a very initial resource and then escalate to another level, and during these level escalations, our time is wasted. They do not understand the severity of the issue. They go through step-by-step and then go to the upper level. This may be their SOP, but we require instant support and instant resolution of the problem, so here VMware Live Recovery is lacking. They follow their SOP, but they initially engage very low-level personnel who are not able to answer or resolve the issue, so they escalate or take a very long time to resolve the issue. The main issue is to improve the approach of resolving solutions. I may not be able to suggest new features because in these recent months, I have not been very close to it as we are exploring different solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Customer Service: Second to none Technical Support: Second to none"
"It takes less time to replicate files between two servers."
"It gives us the possibility to migrate/protect customer servers and data in the simplest way."
"In Version 7.xx the most valuable feature to me is being able to carry out a test full server failover in which case the primary server is still up and running."
"The most valuable feature is the simplicity of operations, with a user-friendly interface that has two main buttons for real disaster recovery and simulation, and a storage replication adapter that allows SRM to work with storage arrays from any vendor."
"We mostly prefer to recommend this to customers due to ease of use, abundant features, and support."
"The stability of the solution is great, as we've tested the system and haven't discovered any bugs."
"With VMware vSphere Replication and SRM combined, we were able to cut down outage windows to a maximum of one hour."
"Every feature is quite good, and we haven't faced any issues or complaints."
"Based on average of downtime cost on DR and how automation can help to bring the business on, SRM can reduce the cost nearly 50 percent; moreover you don’t need to have SAN storage on DR."
"The UI is very user-friendly and testing is easy."
"The product is evolving and the vendor is committed to change."

Cons

"Not such a good coverage of the most widely used Linux server distributions, so many issues happen while migrating these servers."
"Yes I encountered issues with deployment. The information provided in the guide just stated about 2 or 3 communication ports but even after these ports are enabled there are still issues with the 2 servers communicating via Double-Take."
"There are many functionality problems with the product currently. It is also slow and unstable."
"In general, the drawbacks of VMware SRM, where improvements can be made, stem from the fact that it is an expensive and complex product."
"Deployment is fairly straight forward but it still requires a good amount of VMware experience on the architecture side to properly deploy and scale."
"For support issues, they help with the issue, but it takes a very long time."
"When starting up the replication and converting it to the virtual machine I had some problems. I had to start the process again and that is inconvenient."
"The product's stability could be better."
"Cost is definitely an area where the product could be improved, I'd definitely say it should have cheaper pricing."
"VMware SRM's platform agnostics should support on-cloud usage as well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"We have a standard enterprise license for the solution."
"The price of VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery should be lowered in order to compete better in the market."
"The licensing costs for the product are perpetual in nature. A person needs to buy the license only once there is a need to buy support on a yearly basis. The licensing cost for VMware SRM is expensive."
"The level of licensing required for this solution is dependent on the server instances in use."
"VMware SRM is expensive when compared to Veeam and makes Veeam look cheaper. For support, some additional payments need to be made over the licensing costs of the solution."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight to nine out of ten."
"It is an expensive platform. I rate the pricing an eight out of ten."
"VMware sells in bundles of 50 VMs, so if we want to expand, we have to buy the whole bundle."
