Prominent pros & cons

PROS

Fortinet FortiADC offers high-level services such as availability, redundancy, and load balancing between servers, making it valuable for efficient traffic management.
Its load-balancing feature is highly praised for scalability and ensuring session-based connections to maintain application accessibility without interruption.
The GSLB feature enhances network reliability by distributing application traffic across multiple datacenters and acting intelligently as a DNS server to reduce latency.
Security features such as a web application firewall provide automated protections, particularly against OWASP Top Ten threats, improving backend application patching flexibility.
Fortinet FortiADC's architecture integrates well with other Fortinet platforms and provides flexible licensing options, allowing easy deployment and performance enhancements.

CONS

L7 Persistent load-balancing algorithm does not function properly with in-house applications.
Technical support and documentation require improvement, with specific attention to detail.
The stability for virtual machines needs enhancement.
There is a notable mismatch between the features offered and the device's capacity.
Implementation of the WAF function should be user-friendly and straightforward.

Ultimately, Fortinet constructs every solution needed for each defense layer, making it comparatively better than Trellix, Trend Micro, or SentinelOne.

Fortinet FortiADC is a good product; we implemented a Fortinet FortiADC cluster and use application load balancing, and the implementation process is straightforward and cluster implementation is also very easy.

I use load balancing technology like Round Robin or low weight to maintain session-based connections. This ensures that clients can connect to their applications without interruption.

We can do patches offline without causing customers outages. The web application firewall features, especially those related to the OWASP Top Ten, provide automated protections. This allows more flexibility in patching the backend applications. Additionally, it offers visibility into the requests being made to the applications, and you can't protect what you can't see.

Fortinet FortiADC is a good product because each and every piece of content is monitored by it.

The GSLB, the DR side, is the best part. Because we had our main side in one city, we created another, and we had a complete MPLS over the internet. We used the GSLB and data loss for our business applications.

Some customers need custom management for handling their applications across the servers. Instead of having a predefined solution, if we had space for custom-based algorithms to load balance the traffic, it would be better.

The WAF function implementation would be better if we could do it very easily and in a user-friendly way.

When the FortiADC is part of a platform with components like FortiManager and FortiGate, automation and pushing configuration are very inconvenient.

If I need design help, they do not assist; they say it is a design issue they cannot support, and I must approach the system integrator.

The solution needs to integrate sFlow. sFlow provides better visualization of the bandwidth and types of traffic passing through the device. When used in the traffic path, this information can be really useful.

The solution's WAF needs an upgrade because it is not as good as FortiWeb, VMware, F5, or Imperva.

One of the product's areas of improvement includes reducing the number of components requiring additional licenses, such as antivirus and IDS, which are already covered by our firewall.

Because it is so generic, the documentation requires special attention. A person who has not worked on Fortinet FortiADC or a similar product will struggle to understand what the document is trying to say. The documentation could be more specific, and more detailed.
