Good for diagnostics, assists in preventing attacks, and is reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "It is very stable and reliable."
  • "The solution is expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We have some customers that have more than just two branches, and we use FortiManager to manage the network and have FortiAnalyzer in case we have an attack or need more information to understand when something happens. If you have some sort of loss, it's very difficult to identify what is happening without this solution's help.

What is most valuable?

The solution helps prevent attacks, and in the event of an attack, it can act as a forensic device, which is very useful. We find it helpful for diagnostic purposes.

It helps, when you have several smaller firewalls, to manage the monitoring.

The solution is scalable.

It is very stable and reliable.

What needs improvement?

It can be a difficult solution to sell.

The solution is expensive.

The customer needs to have extensive knowledge in order to use the solution properly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a few months. We started using it last year around August. It's been around seven months or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. I'd rate it nine out of ten. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have different customers and are managing the network. We might have 500 people using the solution and maybe eight to ten customers utilizing the solution.

The solution is expensive. However, the issue is the cost. It will be expensive to scale. That said, if you want to expand, you can. I'd rate the scalability nine out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

We have seven people available to handle the deployment and maintenance of the product. They are engineers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution can be a bit expensive. I cannot speak to the exact costs. There are no hidden fees attached to the service.

What other advice do I have?

We are a Fortinet partner.

I'd recommend the solution to others. I would rate the product eight out of ten.

While I do not use it often, I find it can be difficult to identify when we have an issue to identify what happened. It would be helpful if there was some sort of business intelligence tool attached to it. Or, perhaps it is due to the fact that we may lack a certain level of training in this area.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure

  • "One area for improvement could be better support for third-party products, as it doesn't have as much visibility with these compared to Fortinet's own products."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer in our organization is to gain more visibility into traffic, such as creating reports on highest bandwidth users over time. It also serves as a central log repository, aiding in threat detection by showing indicators of compromise and emerging threats.

What is most valuable?

Fortinet FortiAnalyzer comes with a lot of prebuilt reports out of the box, making it easy for our team to generate necessary reports without much struggle. It provides better visibility, allowing us to have a clearer view of threats. The advanced analytics capabilities aid in threat detection by providing visibility into indicators of compromise.

Offers protection to network from attacks
Pros and Cons
  • "It is one of the best firewall products."
  • "The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

I have been using the solution in my company since after we set up and configured the tool, we managed the migration. Sometimes, I have to take care of my customers. My customers are using the product well.

What is most valuable?

The product can be used as a full-time solution and as a reasonable antivirus product. With the firewall, it protects the systems from ransomware attacks.

What needs improvement?

The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortinet FortiAnalyzer for five to ten years. I use the solution's latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If I consider my company's customers, some are government organizations.

How are customer service and support?

I get support for the product from the solution's website. I also get local support from a solution company that deals with our organization's support team. The product's support team is very good and knowledgeable. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

For installation, I approached a technology company in Vietnam that provides the required team support.

The solution is deployed on the cloud, but it isn't easy to operate in Vietnam since money is collected every year.

The solution's deployment is difficult since you need knowledge about networks, rules, policies or else you may get confused when you collect information from your customers.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool offers protection to my network. The costs related to the licensing part of the solution for each year keep increasing every year. In other countries, the product may seem cheap, but in Vietnam, the costs are high. There is not enough money for businesses to pay for the tool.

What other advice do I have?

For cybersecurity, my company normally uses the asset list and applies it to some applications like an antivirus or IDS system.

One of the product's tasks is to provide a firewall to check the effects of a customer's network from outside.

The automation of reports that is possible with the product is good, especially because Fortinet has a lot of products for the customers in the market, including those like the government, banking, and other small businesses. Many people in Vietnam use Bitbucket since they don't have much money. With the setup of the firewall, the traffic gets controlled. When you start the firewall very high, I believe the 30 percent time taken to assess risks is very high. The product becomes slow, and it may have an impact on the server.

The solution has impacted our company's operational costs by reducing them by 30 percent.

The performance offered by the product is high only when the network traffic is normal.

It is one of the best firewall products.

I rate the overall tool an eight out of ten.

Centralized log management and real-time analysis enables efficient traffic log analysis and comprehensive network monitoring, but has an initial learning curve
Pros and Cons
  • "The reporting features, which offer customization, real-time insights, and compliance support, are particularly noteworthy aspects."
  • "Automated reports focusing on compliance issues would provide a clearer understanding of potential gaps and the need for remediation."

What is our primary use case?

I find it to be a valuable tool for utilizing traffic logs. The product's continuous improvements and Fortinet's commitment to enhancing its capabilities contribute to its effectiveness.

What is most valuable?

The reporting features, which offer customization, real-time insights, and compliance support, are particularly noteworthy aspects.

What needs improvement?

It would be beneficial to enhance the streamlining of the generation of automated reports related to compliance, such as PCI DSS or HIPAA, based on the logs collected. Automated reports focusing on compliance issues would provide a clearer understanding of potential gaps and the need for remediation. This feature would significantly simplify the process of identifying and addressing areas that require attention.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with it for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate its stability capabilities eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have approximately three thousand users within our company. I would rate its scalability seven out of ten, as it should be improved.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is responsive. I would rate it eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The majority of our network infrastructure is based on Fortinet, with a single device each on Palo Alto and Cisco.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was fairly easy. When approaching it for the first time, there might be some minor complexities. However, as you gain experience, the process becomes quite straightforward to manage.

What about the implementation team?

The setup typically takes a maximum of three to four hours, depending on the scenario. If it's hardware, there usually aren't any issues. For software installations, you need to consider server specifications, and the process involves loading the license, which may take about three to four hours for activation. For maintenance, we have a team of five members responsible for overseeing the entire network, which includes managing the Fortinet licenses.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing model is subscription-based. It involves payment for both the license and ongoing support. I would rate it seven out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

It serves as an excellent tool, especially for addressing compliance requirements. Analyzing traffic logs and monitoring network impressions, both inbound and outbound traffic, are essential needs that this tool effectively fulfills. Implementing it has proven to be highly beneficial. Overall, I would rate it seven out of ten.

We can gather logs and generate reports, but the license cost is high
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the capability to gather logs and generate reports."
  • "The integration with other vendors for log collection could be enhanced."

What is our primary use case?

Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is utilized to gather logs from all Fortinet products and generate reports.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the capability to gather logs and generate reports. Without this solution, the firewalls exhibit limited proficiency in displaying logs.

What needs improvement?

The integration with other vendors for log collection could be enhanced.

The licensing cost has room for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Fortinet FortiAnalyzer for over three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate FortiAnalyzer's stability a nine out of ten. We have had instances of data loss or source loss.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For our needs, FortiAnalyzer is scalable because we are not dealing with thousands of firewalls.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment took a couple of days.

For the deployment, we needed to create the server for deploying the FortiAnalyzer image and create the policy rules. We also had to complete the basic configuration of FortiAnalyzer. Following that, we configured all the resources and logs within FortiAnalyzer to collect and correlate the logs, which are then used to generate reports.

What about the implementation team?

We used a consultant for the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay for an annual license, but we have the ability to determine the payment schedule with our distributor.

The cost of the license is high.

What other advice do I have?

I would give Fortinet FortiAnalyzer a rating of six out of ten. I am not satisfied with the solution as it falls short of a proper SIEM. Therefore, we would prefer to allocate more funds towards a SIEM in order to effectively collect logs.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use, easy to integrate, and configures multiple devices at the same time
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is easy to use and easy to integrate."
  • "It would be good if the product could provide data about the websites users visit."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution for the configuration process.

What is most valuable?

Logs are the most useful feature of the solution. The solution is easy to use and easy to integrate. It helps to configure multiple devices at once.

What needs improvement?

The solution provides details like category, IP address, and location. It would be good if the product could provide data about the websites users visit.

It will be better if the product can build its UI like Cisco Meraki’s.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for around seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Compared to most other solutions, it is easier to scale Fortinet FortiAnalyzer. We also use FortiAnalyzer VM, so the scalability is pretty flexible. Around 1000 employees in our organization use the solution.

How are customer service and support?

It is a bit of a challenge to return devices. Once we return the device to Fortinet, they will send us a replacement. This process takes a bit of time. The cost of sending the device is very high. With that money, we can buy a smaller device.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very simple.

What about the implementation team?

We need three employees to maintain the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product’s price is much better than its competitors.

What other advice do I have?

We need to have a license for individual devices to use the solution. We end up in a loop when we try to access the websites and different routes. We also have to provide the options ourselves for all our queries. The process would be better if reports and records were more readily available.

Cisco Meraki is an online portal that provides organized and in-depth reports. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

  • "The product should be integrated with other third-party solutions for context exchange."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to review firewall logs.

What is most valuable?

The solution works fine. Separating sections or conditions on Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is quite clear.

What needs improvement?

The product should be integrated with other third-party solutions for context exchange.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for the past two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. Around 20 to 30 IT employees in our organization use the solution. I would rate the scalability a nine out of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The product is easy to set up.

What other advice do I have?

Around 120 employees work in the technical and maintenance department. I would recommend the solution to other users. I don’t know whether FortiNAC can be integrated with the Fortinet FortiAnalyzer. I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

It aggregates and correlates all the events from multiple sources
Pros and Cons
  • "Many of my clients are financial institutions that transmit files from around the country across a VPN. In a setup like this, it's helpful to have a centralized dashboard to manage firewalls and other security solutions across a distributed environment. You can do all sorts of analysis and configure it to trigger alarms."
  • "FortiAnalyzer only integrates with Fortinet solutions. That is a limitation because many organizations use multiple vendors. It's often a mixture of Cisco network hardware and equipment from other vendors, such as switches, access points, etc."

What is our primary use case?

FortiAnalyzer provides a centralized dashboard for analyzing the output of all our Fortinet solutions, like FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiSandbox, etc. It aggregates and correlates all the events.

What is most valuable?

Many of my clients are financial institutions that transmit files from around the country across a VPN. In a setup like this, it's helpful to have a centralized dashboard to manage firewalls and other security solutions across a distributed environment. You can do all sorts of analysis and configure it to trigger alarms.

What needs improvement?

FortiAnalyzer only integrates with Fortinet solutions. That is a limitation because many organizations use multiple vendors. It's often a mixture of Cisco network hardware and equipment from other vendors, such as switches, access points, etc.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used FortiAnalyzer for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

FortiAnalyzer is stable as long as you don't push it. It can cause trouble if you are overreliant on virtual machines and you don't have hardware acceleration. You might see some performance problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

FortiAnalyzer is scalable. It covers FortiGate firewalls, switches, etc. You can always buy more licenses or hardware if you need to upgrade.

How are customer service and support?

The response times could be faster.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up FortiAnalyzer is straightforward. It doesn't take long because everything is already built for you unless you need to do some virtualization. The specific steps depend on your environment and what kind of device fabrics you use.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

They have three-year licenses, but I usually recommend starting with a one-year license to try FortiAnalyzer out. After that, you can switch to a three-year license.

What other advice do I have?

I rate FortiAnalyzer nine out of 10. I recommend FortiAnalyzer to anyone who is using Fortinet products.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
