Reporting features like graphs, threat intelligence, and vulnerabilities analysis are helpful
Pros and Cons

- "If Fortinet could introduce some firewalling or maybe FortiAnalyzer on the cloud, that would be interesting because I've never seen it on a cloud."
- "We don't need to do much to install FortiAnalyzer because it always depends on FortiGate. You need to deploy FortiGate before you install it. That's why I say that I see it as a dummy box. I don't see anything interesting in it. It's only a support structure."

What is most valuable?
FortiAnalyzer's reporting features like graphs, threat intelligence, and vulnerabilities analysis are helpful. Fortinet knows how to do reporting. You can customize your reports to show exactly what you want to analyze. It's user-friendly and doesn't require a lot of effort.
The hub is another feature that's good to use. FortiAnalyzer can be connected to other Fortinet devices via the hub. It isn't restricted, and it's all controlled by FortiManager. It can also integrate all the opcodes to one box.
What needs improvement?
If Fortinet could introduce some firewalling or maybe FortiAnalyzer on the cloud, that would be interesting because I've never seen it on a cloud.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using FortiAnalyzer since 2015.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
FortiAnalyzer is stable. It will do the work as long as your FortiGate is stable. It depends more on the FortiGate, so if your FortiGate is cool, there's no problem. If there is a problem, you can bypass it most of the time. I can't say that there are no issues. I don't want to lie.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
FortiAnalyzer is scalable. It can even take over traffic from other analyzers. You can connect as many analyzers as you want to it.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used a McAfee SIEM solution before at my previous employer, but it's not as powerful as FortiAnalyzer. I used a Rapid7 solution and Cisco FirePOWER, which are both weak.
How was the initial setup?
We don't need to do much to install FortiAnalyzer because it always depends on FortiGate. You need to deploy FortiGate before you install it. That's why I say that I see it as a dummy box. I don't see anything interesting in it. It's only a support structure.
What other advice do I have?
I rate FortiAnalyzer seven out of 10. It's a very user-friendly box. You don't even need to know the CLI. It has a CLI, but you don't need to know it because the GUI is excellent. It's always doing its duty to keep up with the reporting.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Easy to get reports and read specific logs
Pros and Cons
- "With Fortinet FortiAnalyzer, it is easy to get reports and read specific logs."
- "Fortinet has a new bug every month, which needs to be improved."
What is our primary use case?
Our clients use Fortinet FortiAnalyzer to analyze and locate the traffic in their network. Since it's a big customer, they have both Fortinet FortiAnalyzer and Fortinet FortiManager.
What is most valuable?
With Fortinet FortiAnalyzer, it is easy to get reports and read specific logs. It provides fast log analysis for getting information. The solution helps locate if a destination is blocked or a machine communicates with the right port or server. Basic debugging can be done quickly using Fortinet FortiAnalyzer.
What needs improvement?
Fortinet has a new bug every month, which needs to be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Fortinet FortiAnalyzer for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is a really stable solution and does not have any bugs.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is a scalable solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have previously used the Kibana tool.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's initial setup is easy because it's a virtual machine. You have to upgrade it once every two to three years, which is a slow process. However, there aren't many features that need to be updated because the product is good.
What was our ROI?
The solution has been in our organization before I joined. Based on that, I have to say it's a good investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is quite an expensive tool.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
Users should never upgrade to the newest firmware. In the last decade, we have learned to always wait and see. Fortinet has had some bad releases. You must have good quality assurance that the product is bug-free. It is easy to maintain the solution.
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Offers a great overview of the logs and integrates perfectly
Pros and Cons
- "It is easy to integrate Fortinet FortiAnalyzer with other products. You have a better overview of what's going on."
- "The only issue that I can see is with the cost. For example, if you buy support for one year, you are messed up next year. It's better to buy another gateway."
What is our primary use case?
We collect the logs from Fortinet in order to search and get a better view of everything that's coming from FortiGate because the overview on FortiGate isn't the same. FortiAnalyzer provides an overview of the logs and everything that's happening there. We integrate FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer with the SOC that we're working on, which is an open-source security solution.
The other use case is to have logs. Because otherwise, in FortiGate, you don't have logs for a long period of time. You only have seven days if you don't have an account in FortiGuard. So, FortiAnalyzer provides a better understanding of what's happening there. And for our clients, we always recommend FortiAnalyzer.
FortiGate by itself is a good choice, but without FortiAnalyzer, you lose a lot of features. Even the free version of FortiAnalyzer provides some useful features.
What is most valuable?
It is easy to integrate Fortinet FortiAnalyzer with other products. You have a better overview of what's going on. For example, you get a smaller alert for an infected workstation if it causes some suspicious traffic, you see it right away in Fortinet.
What needs improvement?
The only issue that I can see is with the cost. For example, if you buy support for one year, you are messed up next year. It's better to buy another gateway.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Fortinet FortiAnalyzer for one year, and I am currently working with the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a very stable solution and integrates perfectly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution. Our company is very proud of FortiGate solutions.
How are customer service and support?
The support team is good. We have some cases open with them, and they resolve them very quickly. Even when there is a breach of security, they patch it quickly.
How was the initial setup?
It is very easy to set up and deploy. Even someone with little networking knowledge or a manager can quickly understand what's happening in the network, such as an increase in traffic from specific endpoints or which websites are being browsed, including social media.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You get a gateway, but without support, it's not worth much. We've also tried FortiGate virtual machines, but the price is so high that it's better to buy other appliances than to buy the license for the VM.
We also work with third-party solutions. However, this solution is not for everyone, and even though it's free, it's easy to implement when you have money.
Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise buying FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer together. They get it free of charge. When you buy FortiGate, you can put in a FortiAnalyzer VM for free. Although the free version has its limitations, you should get it because it doesn't cost you anything. When you try the free version of FortiAnalyzer, you'll see its potential, and you'll want more.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A good firewall activity reporting tool with next to real-time reporting capabilities, but lacking auto-detection when upgrades take place
Pros and Cons
- "We like the fact that we can run minute-by-minute reporting form this solution."
- "We would like to see some improvement on the upgrade process around this solution. There are sometimes communication issues when a new version of the firewall is implemented, and it fails to report back to this product."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution to actively pick up and report on all activities and connectivity going through the FortiGate firewall.
What is most valuable?
We like the fact that we can run minute-by-minute reporting form this solution.
We also appreciate that the interface of this solution is very good, and doesn't require a lot of configuration, updating, or maintenance.
What needs improvement?
We would like to see some improvement on the upgrade process around this solution. There are sometimes communication issues when a new version of the firewall is implemented, and it fails to report back to this product.
We would also like to be able to pull off incident reports and display them graphically using this solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for about three years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of this solution is okay. There is some room for improvement, and so we would rate the stability as an eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have found this to be a fairly scalable solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of this solution is very easy, and takes around three hours to complete the implementation.
What about the implementation team?
We carried out the implementation using in-house resources.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The renewals for this solution are carried out yearly.
What other advice do I have?
We would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Customer support is good, but the tool lacks a sophisticated and customizable dashboard
Pros and Cons
- "I would say that Fortinet's tech support is really good."
- "The deployment of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is not complex, but integrating it with firewalls can take some time, depending on the number of firewalls."
What is our primary use case?
It's a lock storage correlation device. You can connect locks from different devices. Not just from Fortinet, but you can send locks from other devices to FortiAnalyzer. Basically, it is a centralized repository.
What is most valuable?
Fortinet FortiAnalyzer has a lock correlation feature. It simplifies the troubleshooting process for its customers. So now, instead of logging into every firewall, they can log into Fortinet FortiAnalyzer and check the locks. They can also check whether there are any issues with the network.
What needs improvement?
This is a difficult question for me to answer. I want the tool to have a sophisticated and customizable dashboard similar to the one in the SIEM solution. However, I'm not sure if that is in the pipeline. Basically, I would say that it's not a pure SIEM solution where your customer can have a layer on a view of dashboards or advanced dashboards.
For how long have I used the solution?
I work with Fortinet and Palo Alto. I am also a partner of Fortinet. Even though I have been working with Fortinet for more than five or six years now, Fortinet EDR is something very new for me and us in general. We have been working on firewalls, FortiAnalyzer, FortiManager, FortiMail, FortiADC, and FortiWeb. EDR, SDMA, and ZTNA are new to us. Speaking about Fortinet FortiAnalyzer, I have been working on it for more than six years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is okay. Although some customers have encountered issues, others have had a pretty okay experience and are doing pretty well with the solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would say that more than ten of our clients are working on this solution. I would say that it is kind of scalable since it comes in different form factors. Owing to the different form factors and sizing of the solution, you can add and get increased capacity. This can help a person to add more firewalls and devices.
How are customer service and support?
I would say that Fortinet's tech support is really good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
I can say that the setup is a mixture of both options. I wouldn't say it is difficult. I would rather say that the setup process is okay or moderate. Also, the straightforwardness and complexity of the setup process will depend on your environment.
The deployment of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is not complex, but integrating it with firewalls can take some time, depending on the number of firewalls. So, the deployment of the entire solution can take approximately one week to complete.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'm not familiar with the cost point, because I am more of a technical person and I do not do pre-sales or sales.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I downloaded reports for CrowdStrike Falcon and FortiEDR from peerspot.com to see how they are in terms of performance.
What other advice do I have?
Based on current trends, people are shifting towards FortiGate devices for their attractive value proposition and exceptional performance. FortiGate is the go-to choice for firewalls. And for us, along with FortiGate, I'll even go with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer. I rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Easy to deploy, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of the solution is reporting."
- "The solution can improve the incident response function to provide more detailed information on where the incident is originating."
What is our primary use case?
The customer purchased a Fortinet Firewall in order to run it as a decentralized block and collect amazing security logs from their internet usage or other data from the box. The benefit of having an on-premise firewall is that they don't have to worry about any subscription, and the storage space it consumes is minimal due to the internal hard drive of the FortiAnalyzer. Furthermore, the firewall does not consume a lot of traffic from the internet due to it being on-premise.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution is reporting. The report that accompanies the solution includes the top 10 usages, threats to be aware of, and any highlights. Additionally, the API can be connected to other systems to receive more notifications.
What needs improvement?
The solution can improve the incident response function to provide more detailed information on where the incident is originating.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and we have never experienced downtime.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I give the scalability of the solution an eight out of ten.
This solution is suitable for enterprise customers with a large number of devices and logs. Fortinet FortiAnalyzer enables the compilation of log files over a period of time, such as 90 days in Thailand. This is especially useful for gathering and analyzing data.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is simple. Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is an out-of-the-box solution, so we can start customizing as soon as we finish the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I give the cost a seven out of ten. I believe that Fortinet is a cost-effective brand, making it a competitive option in terms of pricing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
An alternative solution is SolarWinds, which analyzes server performance, and could be a competitor's CM solution or a managed service that sends data from sensors on the site to their facility. The primary distinguishing feature of SolarWinds is its form factor. SolarWinds must be installed on a server and requires server resources. In the past, a large amount of OS and other resources were necessary, but the form factor has remained the same.
What other advice do I have?
I give the solution an eight out of ten.
Due to the high cost, Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is not feasible to use for certain office or branch office environments. A possible compromise could be to use a combination of two solutions: for banks, the file-based solution may be beneficial, but for on-premises locations, it could be worthwhile to make use of the existing value and use it to centrally control and manage the data.
I recommend utilizing the FortiAnalyzer if our log volume is sufficient and we have a FortiGate.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
