Quad9 is a DNS filter, so it filters unwanted malware. It's one of the five layers of protection I use. I have a router with a firewall enabled plus DNS filtering. Each device has Norton 360 installed.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
What needs improvement?
For how long have I used the solution?
I was using a different DNS filter, and I switched to Quad9 a year and a half ago. I stopped using it because it slowed down and froze on some of the requests. I switched to OpenDNS and had no more issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with Quad9 and most other filtering solutions. Quad9 was working well initially, but it started slowing, so I switched to OpenDNS. I recently checked Tom's Hardware, an IT review site, and read a review of seven DNS filters. Open DNS was ranked the fastest, and Quad9 was second. Google was on there too, but they said it didn't filter enough.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up Quad9 is straightforward if you know what you're doing, and it's easy to use overall.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Quad9 five out of 10. It used to work fine for all the devices, but it started to slow and become non-responsive. I would have to reload the page two or three times before all the pages loaded. With OpenDNS, I only need to load the page once.
Ensure the platform is stable where you are. It might work fine elsewhere. It could be something to do with the servers or load balancing in Canada, but I'm not getting fast responses to my query.
