I use the solution in my company to manage additional domains, especially in areas like education and manufacturing.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution is that it is a very user-friendly tool that is customizable based on the business environment. The tool is good for data centers. Based on the business requirements, people use SAP and Oracle, which are very expensive, and though optimization is an area that can be considered to be very dependable, users have to pay more. With ERPNext, users can have a more cost-effective solution.
What needs improvement?
With ERPNext, some business challenges will definitely be there. So far, my company has seen that it cannot go for bigger enterprise models, like SAP. With SAP, it is a completely different game, whereas for the SMEs having almost 100 to 500 users, ERPNext can be a good tool. With ERPNext, there can be some challenges in the case of business or routing.
The tool is suitable if you have a multi-cloud environment in your company or if there is some company that prefers to be branded as an enterprise business. As there are so many third-party integrations, depending on third-party applications, all those. You know? I mean, you have so many CRM models, but the thing is that with the ERP ERPNext CRM, you can't compare it with Salesforce. For the SME sector, the tool is good. The tool's features are developed for a bigger network. It will take a little bit of time, but as of now, we can see that the tool is good for the SME sector.
The tool has not come up with anything for some specific domains, like construction domains. Right now, it is a big challenge to use the tool in the education domain, but right now, the product has resolved it. Many people use the tool since it has a larger network. The tool keeps developing, and it will take time to develop. For the education domain, the tool will have to come up with LMS features and transportation, which make up for small challenges.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using ERPNext for four and a half years. My company operates as a solution service provider. My company upgraded ERPNext Version 13 to Version 15.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight to nine out of ten. The tool's stability is good. Big enterprise models will only want to go for SAP. If someone is looking for some kind of customization or business requirements, then they can approach Odoo or ERPNext.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
Right now, open source data models like MariaDB are going forward for the enterprise model and to become like Oracle DB. If you want to go for daily transactions involving 10,000 to 1,00,000 or 2,00,000 transactions every day, then users will need to be dependent on the database's scaling ability. Oracle can face challenges since it needs to go with the licensing models offered for the solution. When we say that a product is an open-source tool available for free, we have to work with its database, making it similar to MariaDB.
My company has around 11 customers who operate medium-sized businesses.
How are customer service and support?
There are many service providers for the tool. Nowadays, there are so many companies that are coming up with support, and they offer very good support in terms of training. Going forward, it will capture a very good market share. I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The product's installation and integration are quite easy, so I can say I rate it a nine out of ten.
My company has checked the tool on the cloud and on-prem. All the models have been tested on cloud services from AWS, Azure, and Google Workspace. My company didn't face any challenges, but based on the business model, some customizations are required, and it may take a bit of time.
For a vanilla version deployment, it will hardly take one or two hours. The challenges will come in the business department, especially during the integration, implementation, customization, but it is all dependent on the business. Integrations associated with the base model might take three to four weeks. For any kind of core model customization, we need to study the tool and then do the development and testing.
The deployment model works on a Python-based model, and it has been developed on the framework. The DevOps team can easily handle the deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is an open-source tool. Some kinds of plug-ins for the tool are available in the marketplace. ERPNext was developed using Python. Plug-ins are available in the marketplace, and users need to buy it. Users have to buy service support, not the license. The license is absolutely free. Some products come up as open-source tools, but some kind of coding will be encrypted. ERPNext is 100 percent open-source product.
If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price as a three. ERPNext is a cheap tool compared to SAP, Oracle, or any other product. ERPNext offers around 95 percent cost-saving benefits to users.
What other advice do I have?
Considering the cost or price basis, the tool is very good for a start-up company. You can say that sometimes, a few companies want to control the data. They don't want to go for a subscription model, but for many, it is a very good tool.
The tool is growing, and in a short time, it will capture a very good market share. The tool offers good support, and a large community is involved. ERPNext is very good at addressing the concerns in India.
I recommend the solution to other users.
Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.
