OpenText Universal Discovery and Universal CMDB Reviews Summary
Author infoRatingReview Summary
Technical Engineer at Hitachi Systems, Ltd.5.0Initially, we managed assets manually with Excel but switched to OpenText for automated asset management, appreciating its auto-discovery feature. However, improvements in server discovery are needed for seamless adaptation to a changing environment. Overall ROI is moderate.
Cloud Migration & Imp Senior Analyst at Accenture3.5I primarily use OpenText Universal Discovery and CMDB for network and server discovery with agent-based integration. The solution is secure and easy to set up, though the UI needs improvement for faster page loading and better user experience.
ITSM Consultant at Softela4.0I use OpenText Universal Discovery and Universal CMDB to identify IT assets and ensure alignment with our plans. Its accuracy and data integration are valuable, though it can be complex. I chose it over Maximo and ServiceNow due to regional presence and cost.
Network Operations at a government with 10,001+ employees3.5We value Universal CMDB's discovery, but its implementation is complex and challenging, especially with integration across diverse environments. It requires significant organizational maturity and external help for success.
Senior Technical Pre-Sales Consultant / Project Manager (BSM) at a computer software company with 10,001+ employees5.0I find Micro Focus UCMDB excellent for centralizing IT information, enabling automated service modeling, and ensuring license compliance. Its stability and scalability are impressive, offering significant ROI by saving costs and managing changes effectively.
Sr. Systems Management Engineer at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees4.5I find UCMDB to be excellent discovery software, discovering almost everything and mapping relationships with ease, scaling well. Its Automated Service Modeling is very valuable. My only suggestion for improvement is the GUI and documentation.
Service Management Consultant with 10,001+ employees4.0I use it as a central repository for CMS data from various sources, making it our single source of truth. It centralized our previously scattered data feeds, though I believe the UI could be improved.
Itsm Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees4.0I value this governance-oriented tool for its strong data model and ITIL process support, which improves data quality. My key concerns are the need for better reporting and integrations, a steep learning curve, and inconsistent first-level support.
IT Administrator at a tech services company with 51-200 employees4.0I found the solution offers extensive discovery and modeling features, backed by excellent support. However, it's expensive and demands significant resources, making it best suited for large, mature IT organizations.

The UCMDB Tool is easy to manage IT assets and is auto-discovery features; But for ease of use the tool proper it needs to be documented in detailed fashion.
