Lacking in regard to observation of the entire platform but does dynamic injections from within
There is little that's unique about mPulse but since the solution is part of Akamai, you can do dynamic injections from within the product which is a great feature. the UI is quite good. It offers a basic set of features but nothing unique other than that as part of Akamai, you can do dynamic injections.

Provides a comprehensive view by integrating with other monitoring systems
There may be an issue since there are many tools like Splunk involved in network monitoring. From an IP perspective, Dynatrace is performing well. If they want to develop in network monitoring, they can, as it's part of their product line. It's not rocketry, so they can accomplish it. If I, as an SI, look at it from an enterprise perspective, considering the cost from the client, I prefer not to go with multiple systems, as they don't provide a complete 360-degree view. They need to improve on claims about being an enterprise system. The definition of enterprise is loosely used, however, from a holistic security perspective, including infrastructure, network, ports, software, applications, transactions, and databases, there are areas lacking, especially in network monitoring tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the solutions overall performance. It is very efficient and accurate for our usage."
"Enables dynamic injections from within the product which is great."
"It has helped us deliver better solutions to our end customers, and helps them in their digital transformation journey."
"The user experience allows us to be able to gauge customer experience and understand the performance impact of our platform."
"By using Dynatrace, we can set up the agents to provide alerts at the JVM level."
"For stability, our customers have no complaints."
"It has helped us by reducing the number of incidents that we have had in the past."
"We obtained a better insight into our environment and consolidated a lot of our old apps into one app."
"Quick availability of multiple aspects of performance from infrastructure to application layers."
"We can see which step in a transaction is causing latency, right down to the particular Java class"

Cons

"In the next release, I would like to see the possibility of sharing the metric from this solution with other solutions."
"The end-to-end distributor tracing connectivity isn't there."
"They need a capability similar to Tealeaf where you can actually view what the consumer is doing and record the sessions. That is the biggest missing element."
"A useful addition for known issues would be the ability to automatically perform certain activities as a first attempt to resolve issues which are creating a problem."
"Improve Dynatrace for the following industries: telco, eCommerce, and banking."
"We need extended support for some of the agents, the one-agent technologies under Managed. We've got some old legacy platforms that don't have one-agent support yet."
"The integration of the tools is getting there. It is still not there yet, because we still have to get a lot of tools to put together."
"On the side of the end user experience, I would suggest adding a new service for analyzing the backtrace of users."
"One of the new features is "impacted users." I would like to see a rate of impacted users. For example, how long has the problem been going on: 100 users in five minutes. Does that mean that in 3 hours if we don't get this solved, we're impacting x number of people? Understanding the rate at which the problem is impacting people would be a cool feature."
"The messaging layer is not really capturable and measurable right now."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I have not been able to observe more than 1% overhead, despite Dynatrace saying that it can be slightly higher in some situations."
"Always gives good ROI and total cost of ownership."
"The product is definitely worth taking a look at. Be aware that it is probably more pricey than other options on the market, but there are a lot of capabilities. Dynatrace has an eye toward the future and the computing and monitoring needs that we are gonna need for the cloud. "
"Time to value was surprisingly fast."
"It's understandable to do a smaller scale initial evaluation. However, as you identify the product value, don't hesitant in your scope and scale to maximize the initial investment and your opportunity to do a bulk investment of the product."
"Product pricing can seem a little over complex, however this is minor and does not detract from the benefits of the solution."
"I feel the price is good for what the product does."
"Dynatrace is very good and it's provided a lot of information, it plays a positive role in making your application up to date in the market. If you want to monitor some applications only, it would be cheaper if you did cloud monitoring, but the price benefit depends on the use case."
