Useful automation capabilities, scales well, and simple implementation
We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. While Avantra is currently excelling in monitoring and system refreshes, there is scope for improvement in automating change request management. In addition to primarily focusing on SAP, Avantra currently performs kernel patches which are core SAP patches. However, exploring more into OS patching could be another potential area for Avantra to expand its automation capabilities. Looking ahead to future releases, I would like to see more advanced automation features. As a long-term goal, I am considering the possibility of automating SAP system upgrades. While this would not be an easy feat, advancements in technology may make it feasible in the future. Overall, a key feature I hope to see in future releases is increased automation capabilities.

Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Deployment was amazingly short and simple; I do not think I have seen any SAP-related product installs ready to work so fast, and out-of-box it included most of the functions and settings that we needed."
"It prevented two major failures in our SAP production systems."
"It's very easy to manage and use."
"The most valuable feature of Avantra is automation. The reduction of manual work and having them automated is one of the top reasons why I would use it."
"I definitely recommend this solution, it provides good value for money."
"It's just very user-friendly, and it's very easy to monitor the servers using Avantra."
"You can customize alerts based on need."
"We find UIM's valuable features to be its flexibility, the fact that it’s easy to expand, and it supports multi-tenancy."
"It has provided greater security for our most important asset which is the handling of information."
"The benefit is easy installation. Thus, the model approach of the product and out-of-the-box probes, which deliver direct value."
"It is easy to implement but requires good planning."
"The ability to monitor any platform. We have Windows, Linux, AIX, and mainframe all being monitored with the same UIM infrastructure."
"MultiWAN and Balance service"
"It provides us with infrastructure availability and application availability."
"Technical Support: The UIM support team is excellent."

Cons

"The dashboard needs to improve."
"A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values."
"The machine-learning is lacking and should be improved."
"We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. "The dashboard needs to improve; it's not so clear right now and we need it to be more usable so we can have all of our reports in one easy-to-access place."
"I think they can improve their UI, while very intuitive, I would like to see graphic updates."
"It requires a very skilled team to be able to deploy that application, and if you don’t invest in training and don’t go over a long training period, you might find it difficult to deploy."
"UIM supports AS400, but it is somewhat limited."
"The NAS probe has a performance issue. When there is huge number of incoming events, NAS fails to process them."
"Some versions of the UIM HUB probe are unstable and causes the HUB tunneling to stop responding."
"Overall, I’d say they’re fairly good. I think when compared to a couple of years ago, support has gone down a bit rather than up."
"The UIM has no features through goods and services yet. "
"Sometimes the stability is not what we expected, but it's really good still."
"The licensing cost is several hundred thousand dollars a year, and we're only getting several hundred dollars' worth of value since we're doing basic stuff."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
